Someone At Door 😣

It’s 19.13, I’ve just put 2yo dd to bed, done all my housework, been at work all day, so about to have a lovely hot bath and someone is knocking at my door, door is locked, not expecting anyone, my dp is working nights. AIBU not to answer or even check who it is...I’m scared

What in God's name do you think is going to happen if you answer the door?! I genuinely do not understand this weird freaking out about a doorbell. If you're that concerned then get one of those two way web cam doorbells and you can interrogate the poor caller via your phone first before you answer Hmm

AfterSchoolWorry · 15/02/2018 19:23

I would just ignore it without a second thought.

FayJay · 15/02/2018 19:23

Next time open the door. It’s vanishingly unlikely to be anything dodgy and at least you’ll know rather than sitting there worrying for the rest of the evening.

TriniRedVelvet · 15/02/2018 19:23

I never answer door unless I'm expecting someone or a delivery.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 15/02/2018 19:23

What did you want us to say? We’re you hoping we’d all validate your irrational fear of opening the door at tea time?

Most adults arent scared of things like that.

honeyroar · 15/02/2018 19:23

How strange! Couldn't you look out of an upstairs window, at the least! If you don't know them don't open, but at least you'd know.

beluga425 · 15/02/2018 19:23

Presumably 10 minutes later they are no longer there.
Not another cliffhanger thread.
Run down the road.
Quick, we have to know......

Flatpackjackie · 15/02/2018 19:23

What does having to DC have to do with it? What a wimp you are, OP!

maras2 · 15/02/2018 19:23

I know what you mean and who you think it isspag.
Just
IGNORE
IGNORE
IGNORE
Carry on with your bath and stay strong.
Phone DH if you can but don't speak to weirdo CF Woman.

Crashbangwhatausername · 15/02/2018 19:24

YABU but presumably have anxiety so I hope you are ok and enjoy your bath

spagbol11 · 15/02/2018 19:25

I probably ABU sorry just panicked.
As you all were
Blush

OP posts:
AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 15/02/2018 19:25

No need to answer the door if you don't want to but I am very Hmmat being scared.

Unless there's a massive drip feed about some past trauma, YABU to be scared.

DeathStare · 15/02/2018 19:25

YANBU to ignore it if you wish
YABU to be scared of a knock on the door

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/02/2018 19:26

Come on now OP. It was 7.13 not 11.13.

I hope to goodness no one is going to say Yanbu because quite frankly that would be batshit.

UnimaginativeUsername · 15/02/2018 19:27

Do you live somewhere terrifying or something?

Because otherwise it might be worth considering that you were a bit more anxious than the situation merited.

MadMags · 15/02/2018 19:28

It’s weird being scared to open your door at 19.13.

But I suppose it’s not U not to open it...I guess

Aragog · 15/02/2018 19:28

I often don't answer the door in the evening. We don't have people come round unexpected and anyone who actually knows us have our phone number.

Its almost always a charity thing - I don't donate money to door knockers, so don't bother going downstairs to answer the door.

Lindy2 · 15/02/2018 19:29

At 19.13 I wouldn't bat an eyelid at opening a door. You could probably have opened it and dealt with whatever it was in less time than writing your post. Let's hope it wasn't anything important.

blackteasplease · 15/02/2018 19:30

I wouldn't be scared to open it but I might ignore it because I didn't want to he disturbed.

Strokethefurrywall · 15/02/2018 19:30

This place... do we really have to seek validation to answer the friggin' door these days???

Humanity needs to start getting a grip.

purits · 15/02/2018 19:30

Get yourself down to a DIY shop tomorrow and get a security chain.

spagbol11 · 15/02/2018 19:30

No don’t live in a scary place live in the Lake District, just not used to anyone knocking this late that’s all.

OP posts:
UnimaginativeUsername · 15/02/2018 19:31

Have you got problems with anxiety generally OP?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/02/2018 19:31

It really isn't late OP.

anxiousnow · 15/02/2018 19:32

I don't answer the door either but not because I am scared... in fact would be more likely to.open it late as more likely to be some thing important rather than a random. My gentlesloppybutscarylooking dog usually gets rid of any randoms
