Can someone be too fertile?

I was on the pill for 6 years before I came off it. We conceived DD when we didn't use a condom once. Literally, once. I know once is all it takes but it was a shock.

Anyway since having DD we always used a condom. However it wasn't used straight away, there'd be a few pumps first (TMI). We'd only have sex once a month or so but I still managed to fall pregnant on DH's precum.

Am I super fertile? I had a termination and we haven't had sex since. I'm too scared. I'm considering the implant but I'm not sure how the hormones will affect me with depression and anxiety.

I actually really appreciate your post and am appalled at how insensitive and mean people are on what is suppose to be a supporting network of parents. I have questioned this too and needed some more information. Thank you.

Yet another thread from 2018 reanimated today. What's going on?

DmitriMendeleev · 22/08/2022 21:00

I got pregnant after getting told we had more chance of winning the lottery more than once, from having sex once in that cycle, with my husband who has like 6 decent sperm. This was after years of no contraception and an IVF conceived child.

Sex can result in pregnancy, who knew 🤦‍♀️

Why aren’t these zombie threads locked @mnhq?

It would also be nice if threads I last posted on over fours years ago didn’t appear in my “threads I’m on” list.

Sparklingbrook · 22/08/2022 21:05

2018 seems to be today's year for zombie threads.

Hyperfertility is a thing. It's not a great thing; it essentially means that your womb doesn't really have a quality control mechanism at all. It means a lot of miscarriages/abortions, basically. It would also make me wonder if the pregnancies that do continue to term are perhaps subtly "less healthy" in some ways.

I took a little while to get pregnant both times, but no miscarriages; my OBGYN told me that I had "tight" cervical mucus, which makes it harder for sperm to penetrate, but added that this kind of barrier may be helpful in ensuring that only the healthiest sperm get through.

You probably do not have hyperfertility though; it's quite rare. If you're young, it's likely to be just a matter of chance.

So? It may still help other women struggling with a similar condition

Sparklingbrook · 22/08/2022 21:29

People don't tend to read all 9 pages at this point, just reply to the OP as always happens when really long zombie threads get resurrected.

My friend is super fertile. She releases multiple eggs and conceived quins naturally Shock but lost them all at 11 weeks Sad

Doesn't that mean she will run out of eggs sooner and have the menopause sooner?

Ikanon · 24/08/2022 13:10

She's early 40s so may go through it sooner. I haven't seen her since lockdown to hear how things are with her.

I understand that, but I didn't realise one could get pregnant from precum.

I understand some people who are TTC may be upset but they shouldn't read a thread titled 'too fertile'. It's pretty obvious what it's about.

How? HOW could you not know that?

Did you not think to ask a medical professional, or look it up online, before risking pregnancy?

I suspect you are on a wind-up, may be due back at school soon OP ...

Well it was 4.5 years ago, so hopefully she's graduated high school by now.

Aaaaw shit.
Well maybe OP has left school by now then ...

I have got pregnant on 3 different types of contraception
I got sterilised last year and it didn't work! I was pregnant but it ended in a miscarriage
Everyone I've spoken to about this has been so surprised because sterilisation is the one that should have worked!!

hangrylady · 24/08/2022 13:55

Please can people stop saying precum 😂😫

Rainbunny · 24/08/2022 16:13

I have a friend who's been pregnant 3 times. The first time relying on condoms so not that surprising, the second time she had an IUD and even at 99% + effectiveness that didn't stop her from getting pregnant and the third time she had a one night stand, literally just once in her life with no protection and got pregnant again. She jokes herself that she just has to look at a man to fall pregnant and it does seem she's incredibly fertile.

My own grandmother had thirteen children (good Catholic Irish wife) and then there's me - married for over twenty years starting in my twenties, never used contraception except for half-heartedly using the rhythm method for the first five years of marriage. Never once had a late period, let alone become pregnant.
