and not 'rap' names. a la Stormi Jenner.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 07/02/2018 08:25

None of your business really.

PaperdollCartoon · 07/02/2018 08:26

Names constantly evolve and change, Stormi wouldn’t be my choice but there are far sillier, at least it’s spelt in a reasonably obvious way (I’ve seen some horrors). In the world that child will grow up in I doubt anyone will bat an eyelid.

falsepriest · 07/02/2018 08:26

Bit racist.

TheSnowFairy · 07/02/2018 08:27

Bit ironic with your username Grin

Fireinthegrate · 07/02/2018 08:27

You can name your child what you want within reason, ie, not Satan or something.
Personally I don't like the names the Kardashians and Jenners have given their children. I think they're rather ostentatious and 'look at me' but each to their oen.

Fekko · 07/02/2018 08:27

How is that racist?

I wonder why it’s spelled with an ‘i’.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 07/02/2018 08:28

How is it racist? Rappers can be any race and it's a comment on the type of "made up" name...

Fireinthegrate · 07/02/2018 08:28

Why is it racist?
Noone mentioned colour or race

corythatwas · 07/02/2018 08:29

No idea why this particular example is racist, but I have yet to see a thread on ridiculous names on MN which does not sooner or later list names that are perfectly ordinary in e.g. Black African communities or White British working class communities.

Youshallnotpass · 07/02/2018 08:29

YANBU

I sometimes wonder if parents should be allowed to name their children Grin

Kidding!

MiddleClassProblem · 07/02/2018 08:30

Rap names? Because he’s a rapper?

If he was a plumber would it be a plumber name?

Fekko · 07/02/2018 08:31

we won’t mention vanilla ice

TheQueenOfWands · 07/02/2018 08:31

Stormi is no worse than Gracie.

Prefer Storm on it's own.

Sarahh2014 · 07/02/2018 08:32

I quite like Storm without the i but it was the name I chose when I was considering getting a blue Staffy..

Shadow666 · 07/02/2018 08:34

Vanilla Ice’s real name is Robert.

I agree these threads are snobby and have definite racist undertones.

Not everyone wants to give their kid an MN approved name.

SoupDragon · 07/02/2018 08:35

Rap names? Because he’s a rapper?

Maybe because of the similarity to Stormzy?

LifeBeginsAtGin · 07/02/2018 08:36

If you are a 'celebrity' child you can get away with it.

But for the rest of us, we can give our children whatever name we want, but names have consequences.

SoupDragon · 07/02/2018 08:37

(Whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo, Jr according to Wiki)

Fekko · 07/02/2018 08:37

Not racist but celebritist.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/02/2018 08:39

I love Storm, and think in comparison to he cousins, she's doing well on the name front

Fekko · 07/02/2018 08:40

I’m thinking Tempest would be nicer. Is it a boy or a girl?

Shadow666 · 07/02/2018 08:40

According to MN legend if you don’t have a middle class name or if you have a foreign name then your CV will be shredded.

Somebody will also tell the story of the baby called Chlamydia or L-sha. It’s so tedious.

In the real world, very few people care.

MiddleClassProblem · 07/02/2018 08:40

I knew a Storm. She was a Dutch PA. I’m not sure what her parents did to give it a name/occupation category.

I don’t thing they named the baby after Stormzy but then I couldn’t pick them out in a line up so I’m pretty clueless.

Rebeccaslicker · 07/02/2018 08:41

I'd be worried about nominative determinism with a name like that - safer with joy or merry, surely?!Wink

woodchuckchuck · 07/02/2018 08:43

FFS - getting fed up with so many people jumping on the "it's racist" bandwagon. Tedious.
