Adult males can now shower with girls at swimming pools

Swim England has issued new guidance about trans swimmers - link here. Some of it is sensible- I'm sure trans people can feel self-conscious swimming, so trans-only sessions are a good idea (though of course trans people should be able to use the pool at other times too).

What's disturbing though is the section on Environment, which says that trans people should use whichever changing room they prefer. 85% of men who identify as trans have had no surgery, so this means adult men showering & changing with women and girls. How can this be allowed under child safeguarding rules? And what about all the women who will feel unable to swim if they have to change with men - or whose religion does not allow them to do so?

AIBU to think that everyone's needs & comfort should have been considered?

Why do women have to move over for the transwomen ?

Well the simple answer is because they are men.

Alwaysinmyheart · 08/02/2018 08:34

And they hate anyone who disagrees with them:

A petition - not mentioning the trans people at all, but requesting that the guidelines be changed so people can change with members of their birth sex.

Like Ireland, prisoners are housed by birth sex, not gender. (Source; mumsnet)

Lovelyusername · 08/02/2018 08:38

@Alwaysinmyheart, if it was so depressing it would be funny how MALE the transwomen are. Someone disagrees with them- instant block, threats of violence, they deserve to die / be raped.

Someone disagrees with a woman, oh ok well we’ll agree to differ. No blockibg, death threats or rape threats.

MadamMinacious · 08/02/2018 08:50

Imagine if we said similar things to them? 'All deserve to die horribly'. It would be hate speech wouldn't it? If so, so is what they are saying.

I'm writing to Swim England.

Lovelyusername · 08/02/2018 09:00

Petition wording:

This petition is to request swim England to revise their new guidelines regarding changing rooms.

If people are naked and feeling vulnerable, they should be changing with members of their birth sex.

SuitedandBooted · 08/02/2018 09:11

I'm a Team Manager in a Synchronised Swimming Club.

Swim England has made me attend numerous courses in Safeguarding, Child Welfare etc. I have written to ask when they will be running a course that will give me the ESP-like ability to tell the difference between a harmless man, who cannot tolerate living as his born sex, and a sexual predator, who gets off on watching women and girls change. I have included a link to Marie Dean's case...... that's the lovely "lady" who likes to stalk teenage girls, break into their houses and wank in their underwear.

NaturalWoman · 08/02/2018 09:59

Alwaysinmyheart

Well these 'women' and their very fragile male egos clearly feel very threatened by us.

So perhaps we do have more power than we realise...

SuitedandBooted · 08/02/2018 09:59

Please contact Swim England here, and register your concerns. Discussion is good, but we need action;

www.swimming.org/swimengland/swim-england-contacts/

AND CONTACT THE ASA CHIEF EXECUTIVE (sorry to shout!). His name is Adam Paker, and this will give you his details:

www.adampaker.com/

Below is an excerpt from Swim England's safeguarding guidance, available on the Swim England website (Section 3 in Wavepower). As Mr Paker "has the ultimate responsibility for child safeguarding", please ask him why he is going to allow any "self-identifying" man to watch women and children change, and how is that compatible with safety.

ASA Chief Executive
^The Chief Executive, Adam Paker, has the ultimate responsibility for child safeguarding, together with the ASA Group Board and the ASA Sport Governing Board.
The ASA Boards ratify any changes to ASA Rules and Regulations in respect of all matters including child safeguarding and protection.
The Chief Executive is the only person in the ASA with the power to suspend an individual ASA member either temporarily or for a specified term in respect of a child safeguarding issue.
The Chief Executive will do so on the advice of the Head of Legal Affairs, Legal Affairs Department and the ASA Child Safeguarding Team^.

As an aside, there is an article on Mr Paker's site, flagging up the decline in swimming, - forcing women and kids to share their changing areas with men is hardly going to help, is it!!???

OvaHere · 08/02/2018 10:18

I sent a message through the contact form to Media & PR

Hello,

I am writing to register my concern over your recent guidelines that allow any man who self identifies as a woman to have access to female only facilities.

This is very ill thought out and a huge safeguarding issue for women and girls who will often be naked and vulnerable in these spaces.

I'm very concerned for the safety of my niece who is a county champion level swimmer and spends 6 days a week training at her local pool and also competing at many other pools.

It is outrageous that the feelings of some men are prioritised over the well being of women and young girls. This will discourage many females from taking part in swimming activities especially those of Muslim and Jewish faith.

Please reconsider and keep facilities sex segregated in line with the Equality Act and Child Safeguarding legislation.

Thank You.

Alwaysinmyheart · 08/02/2018 10:20

This may have already been shared but I'll share it again! It's a study done about the increase in sexual violence following Target stores in America having gender inclusive changing rooms. May be worth including if you are emailing SwimEngland?

womanmeanssomething.com/target-study-press-release/

Myunicornfliessideways · 08/02/2018 10:29

Thank you for the links. I've emailed. It was a rather ranty, furious one Blush It's getting increasingly difficult to be calm and polite about this, it's outrageous.

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/02/2018 10:36

How do you find out if your local.pools are affected?

Are they the governing body behind all pools.in England?

When will this madness stop. Dr loves her swimming and chatting with her friends getting changed is part of that. Men shouldn't be in there ffs

Alwaysinmyheart · 08/02/2018 10:39

I've emailed too. The more the better!

LadyinCement · 08/02/2018 10:53

The thing is it does need much more attention.

I was trying to explain to dh, who was roaring with laughter and saying it was preposterous and I must have got the wrong end of the stick. Now, dh is a person who is well informed, but this insidious march of trans rights is passing him and most other people by.

The "Bathroom Bill" in the US got liberals frothing and pop acts were refusing to play in affected states, but they just don't get it. It's not a "being mean to sex change people" issue at all (see posts by Pidgeon, who comes across as a measured and decent individual). It's a carte blanche for perverts.

I am also Hmm at that Trudeau character in Canada virtue signalling with his "mankind" rebuke. Canada will virtue signal women right back under big skirts and clinging onto a man's arm for protection with their "rights".

Lovelyusername · 08/02/2018 11:09

Boycott the pools in question?

Waddlelikeapenguin · 08/02/2018 11:16

There are no male and female changing areas at the three pools we go to anyway. There are just changing areas. And showers. I feel like I’m missing something.

Imagination possibly Wink there are different set ups at different swimming pools. For example ALL the school pools round here are (single sex) group change some have a few cubicles, the council pools are mostly changing village type & the private gym pools mostly seem to be group change with one or two cubicles.
Does that help? Smile

Tanith · 08/02/2018 11:17

Surely trans rights works the other way, too?
A female identifying as a man should have unquestioned access to men-only golf clubs and cricket clubs, to men-only freemason lodges?
Why is the TRA lobby not fighting for their rights, too?

OvaHere · 08/02/2018 11:19

Because TRA is a branch of MRA

NaturalWoman · 08/02/2018 11:26

Well at my swimming pool, there are separate changing rooms.

They are down 'corridors', past the showers and there are no members of staff.

There is a central/main communal changing area, 2 large family rooms and about 10/12 cubicles. In 2 rows. The cubicles behind are not lit very well and out of view/well concealed.

There used to be more cubicles but these were removed in favour of the communal changing area.

It would be incredibly easy for a man to be up to no good in there if there were no safeguards to stop them.

Not everyone's local swimming pool is set up in the same way as yours is!

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5357509/Swim-England-guidance-trans-swimmers-slammed.html8

The Daily Mail still won't let more people comment on this - only 3 posts, over 24 hours ago!

Alwaysinmyheart · 08/02/2018 12:13

That is so bizarre, they usually let pp spout all sorts of bollocks under their articles!

BitOutOfPractice · 08/02/2018 12:17

I'm puzzled by all the people coming on to say "it's all mixed changing at my pool, with cubicles, and it's fine"

Can they not even begin to imagine that there are other places that do have (currently) single sex communal changing?

SuitedandBooted · 08/02/2018 12:27

Just tweeted Adam Paker - he's responsible for safeguarding at Swim England.

Artesia · 08/02/2018 12:31

Has anyone had a response from Swim UK yet? I contacted them (and my MP) to register my concern, but have had no response yet.
