Before anyone says it Iโ€™m an absolute idiot for not buying from gumtree in the first place but ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„ I wanted a nice shiny new one!

For first baby we got loaned an ICandy as we thought we were only going to have the one dc.

Then got pregnant with dc2 and HAD to have a new pushchair!

We got an single to double as had two under 2 and eldest child not walking when dc2 came.

As Sodโ€™s law would have it, dc2 hated the buggy and refused to sit in it after 12 months.

The whole thing including cost us ยฃ1100 including car seat bits.

Iโ€™ve been trying to sell it in gumtree for ยฃ400 and not one enquiry apart from one cf who asked if he could borrow it๐Ÿค”

Iโ€™m going to have to give it away for next to nothing, arenโ€™t I?

OP I had an iCandy Apple back in 2009- used it to the max till DD1 was two and a half. Loved it - definitely worth the ยฃ900. But I walked and jogged with it. Sold it on eBay for ยฃ300.

Picoloangel · 05/02/2018 18:07

I sold a Stokke which cost an eye watering sum (it was a gift) on EBay for ยฃ500. It was in vgc and has all the original accessories etc. Also sold a Maclaren some years later.

Sometimes if something isnโ€™t selling on eBay I redo the photos and quite often that results in a sale!

etcher70 · 05/02/2018 18:13

Yes you are being unreasonable. It's a ridiculous price to pay for a pushchair! You wanted 'a shiny new one' why should other people want to buy your second hand one for anything like the original price?

Cocoloco75 · 05/02/2018 18:15

I recently sold my bugaboo cameleon3, it was 3.5 years old and in immaculate condition. I sold it with footmuff, raincover for pram and raincover for Maxi Cosi carrier, Maxi Cosi adapters and a couple of matching fitted sheets and blankets for the carrycot. Still had original box, receipts etc.

The whole lot cost ยฃ1100+ new in 2014 and I had very little interest despite advertising on gumtree and several local selling sites. I started it at ยฃ500 and took ยฃ350 in the end as I didnโ€™t want it hanging around the house would rather it sold (though some stupid offers were sent packing).

I think my buyer got very lucky as it looked like brand new. Wish Iโ€™d ebayed it now!! But in all honesty I didnโ€™t buy it to get the money back, but because I wanted it and budgeted for it. The money I got back was a bonus and will buy some new stuff that my kids need.

Tarraleaha · 05/02/2018 18:17

I don't understand the mania of reselling something that has done its job.

Do you give your old car to charity, or do you part-exchange or sell it?

Even someone comfortable financially can't afford to chuck everything, be wasteful or extravagant. If you add up all the baby bits you can sell (prams, cot, clothes, toys) it adds up to quite a lot and that money goes towards something your growing child needs now.

Not everybody has family that needs baby stuff, so they might as well sell them.

Maireadplastic · 05/02/2018 18:22

Tarra, it's a buggy not a car. And I don't have a car- I'm sure that tells you all you need to know about me.

OP bought something for a certain purpose, it did that job. The end.

gigi556 · 05/02/2018 18:22

I'd try a nearly new second hand baby market like mum2mum

allwomanR · 05/02/2018 18:24

I love my icandy and Iโ€™ve used it nearly every day for 4 years with my 2 and itโ€™ll last for another couple of years. It was ยฃ700 new and itโ€™s had 2 new back wheels at ยฃ50 each but itโ€™s done 8+ miles every week in that time so how much per mile? I doubt a cheaper version from mothercare or a second hand one would have lasted all that use

Letsmaketheworldbetter · 05/02/2018 18:24

Everyone commenting on spending ยฃ1100 on a pram needs to do some research!
I HATE the amount prams cost and did everything in my power to spend as little as possible. I spent ยฃ500 with DD, everything included. It was shite but still used for my second child. The DD, number 3 came along. DS was 1 1/2. The options were very limited and I spent ยฃ1300. Something I did not want to do, but after a lot of research it was the best option. When you have two children at different ages both needing a pram then it is very diffuclt and options are limited!

LillianGish · 05/02/2018 18:33

Do you give your old car to charity, or do you part-exchange or sell it? funnily enough I did once give my old car to a friend who was a bit hard up. It was old - so not worth much - but incredibly reliable. It is still going strong four years after I passed it on. I think of it as the ultimate in recycling and if I ever go and stay with her she gives me lifts!

Tarraleaha · 05/02/2018 18:36

I'm sure that tells you all you need to know about me.
well it tells me you must live in a town with enough public transport 24/7!

It makes no difference in term of resale if it's a buggy or a car. If you have to go to work every day, you can't afford to waste the money once you no longer need the item.

Maireadplastic · 05/02/2018 18:46

Yes, Tarra, I live in London. Mind you, plenty of other with three kids have cars here....
My point is, it's not 'money up in smoke' as some have said, she paid for it to do something, it's done it. Why expect something back? By all means kick yourself for paying too much but that doesn't mean you're owed something back.

TheHolidayArmadillo · 05/02/2018 18:49

People can buy brand new for less

Not if they're sold on the idea of having a pram they couldn't otherwise afford. There are plenty of people who will happily spend the price of a brand new pram from Mothercare on a second hand more-desirable/designer one.

Tarraleaha · 05/02/2018 18:56

It's not being owned something back or paying too much, it's getting the right price for the item and not be wasteful. It's also a rant against CF who expect everything for free and offer you a tenner for something that is still worth a few hundred pounds.

kyph09 · 05/02/2018 19:08

I had the first double icandy (?pear) and sold it on eBay for ยฃ450 second hand (collection only) on eBay back in 2010 so I imagine youโ€™ll have no trouble on there x

SeamusMacDubh · 05/02/2018 19:27

I bought a second hand Icandy double on eBay for around ยฃ400, it came with all the bits and extras, carrycots, seats, raincovers, multiple adaptors, coffee holder etc etc.
I used it for about 12 months and then sold it on for about ยฃ350. Iโ€™m careful with things and keep them in good, clean condition and make sure I take lots of photos when selling. I canโ€™t I think I sold it through Shpock.

I bought a micralite toro buggy (which I hated and regretted buying) for ยฃ80 on eBay, I used it a handful of times but never really got on with it - it spent a lot of time just sitting in my conservatory. I sold that on Shpock for ยฃ89.

So it can be done! I would say, with Shpock, you may have to wait a while for someone to bite but you donโ€™t have to pay the maniacal sellers fees like you do on eBay.

Chewbecca · 05/02/2018 19:29

You can buy the apple 2 pear new for ยฃ450 currently, without car seat. ยฃ400 2nd hand is just not going to attract much interest. The price you paid is sadly irrelevant.

Teddyinglasses · 05/02/2018 20:28

I spent over 20 years fostering and always upgraded my equipment to what was best suited for us. I spent a lot on buggies and car seats, cots etc. When I became ill and had to stop taking babies the equipment we still had was mountainous, none of it over 3-4 years old, but I could not sell it, either people want to spend hundreds on brand new or have it given to them free. The idea seems to be that you can't care about your baby unless it's in the best or a copy of some 'celebrity'. Some mums who were claiming poverty were objecting to paying just ยฃ30 for top rate buggies worth in excess of ยฃ450 because it was last year's colour. I have to say I came across some pretty obnoxious people through gumtree and at car boots. There seems to be no concept of saving now a days.

DaisyBernardMimiTinker · 05/02/2018 20:42

Donโ€™t give up! We are just getting over Christmas and being skint in January. Nobody has any money to buy prams at the mo. Just wait a little while longer and it will probably shift.

I have a donkey spent an absolute fortune on it, but itโ€™s amazing. Itโ€™s on our third baby, weโ€™ve had it four years it goes everywhere with us (including overseas!) I love it so much I donโ€™t ever want to sell it!!!

Ignore the haters!

I worked as a nanny whilst studying...believe me there is a great difference between buggies that cost ยฃ100 and ones that cost ยฃ500!

Advice would be... make sure itโ€™s spotless on the pictures, photographed in a clean tidy environment and keep the price
at ยฃ400 but accept that you may need to take ยฃ300 for it. Then when the CFs come calling you wonโ€™t be upset! Xx

proudmum4 · 05/02/2018 20:59

What colour and how much ? Is it a twin pram can you send a picture I'm having another and my daughter will be 11 months

proudmum4 · 05/02/2018 21:00

If I like it I will have it haha

Fia256 · 05/02/2018 21:07

I had an iCandy peach with dd. Bought the full travel system and had a lot of the extras (footmuff etc).

Sold mine on eBay 18 months later with everything, lots of pics and a good scrub up and it went for just over ยฃ550. That was bidding too rather than fixed price. I also know plenty of people who's iCandys sold for around the same price (give or take a bit depending on what's included). So I'm surprised by all the comments saying your asking too much! The peach always seems to sell for the highest prices though rather than other models so that will factor into it

In my experience gumtree is full of CF. eBay is much better, people tend to get carried away with bidding too so I've always found things go for better prices on there than anywhere else. I think if anyone is looking to buy an iCandy second hand they know the general cost is still higher than a lot of pushchairs!!

Annette69 · 05/02/2018 21:14

Icandy is not a brand I know anyone has purchased. I just sold my old bugaboo for ยฃ150, I bought it for ยฃ250 second hand 5 years ago. I would put it down to ยฃ300.

emmakc1977 · 05/02/2018 21:54

That brings back memories, I bought an icandy Apple jogger when my son was born 8 years ago. Canโ€™t remember what we paid but it was a lot! Unfortunately I have super sized kids and fell pregnant again within 3 months so had to trade in for a double pram as didnโ€™t think coversion kit to pear would last long! We gave ours away as would rather that than get next to nothing from a stranger. People wonโ€™t pay lots for second hand prams as they have no warranty and have lost the new pram smell lol. I think itโ€™s a bit off saying youโ€™re a mug for buying expensive pram, if you can afford it why not. Each to their own.

Nonotmenori · 05/02/2018 22:03

I sold mine on eBay for ยฃ360 with everything. It didn't even have a scratch but I knew I wouldn't have another baby so made sense. I still miss it now.
