Before anyone says it Iโ€™m an absolute idiot for not buying from gumtree in the first place but ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„ I wanted a nice shiny new one!

For first baby we got loaned an ICandy as we thought we were only going to have the one dc.

Then got pregnant with dc2 and HAD to have a new pushchair!

We got an single to double as had two under 2 and eldest child not walking when dc2 came.

As Sodโ€™s law would have it, dc2 hated the buggy and refused to sit in it after 12 months.

The whole thing including cost us ยฃ1100 including car seat bits.

Iโ€™ve been trying to sell it in gumtree for ยฃ400 and not one enquiry apart from one cf who asked if he could borrow it๐Ÿค”

Iโ€™m going to have to give it away for next to nothing, arenโ€™t I?

I paid about ยฃ800 new for a system complete with car seat, carry cot etc. The carry cots are suitable for overnight sleeping so I used this instead of a Moses basketbor cradle. It was black jack (brown) which is an unpopular colour. I used it from birth to 3.5! It lasted really well though just at the end the wheel went a bit wonky. Iโ€™d been following the Facebook pages a PP mentioned and figured out it wasnโ€™t worth much so decided to give it to a friend who was having her second. The repair on the wheel cost a couple of quid. Baby is one now and it is still going strong and she gets compliments on it. Was it a lot to pay? Hell yes. But it was good quality and gave good service. I donโ€™t regret it.

AliTheMinx · 04/02/2018 21:45

I'd echo what PPs have said and look at selling prices on eBay for a more accurate guide. We bought a 9 piece Mamas and Papas travel system on offer for about ยฃ750 and sold it for about ยฃ275, which I was pleased with. It was in good condition but had served us well. I sold it on eBay and invested a lot of time in writing a full description and taking good photos of it, and it paid off.

beluga425 · 04/02/2018 21:52

I bought an iCandy (single, not double) from Ebay a few years ago. I got the whole travel system all in perfect condition for under ยฃ150.
I don't think they hold their value. Also, some colours seem to be less popular than others.
Afraid, you just need to drop the price and use e-bay not Gumtree (which is full of CFs)

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 04/02/2018 21:54

Tbh I may be way off the mark here, but I always thought iCandy was a "fashion" brand as opposed to a "quality" brand iyswim. So I wouldn't expect it to hold value.

We bought mid-range hardwearing brands like Phil&Teds and Mountain Buggy because we wanted something that would be practical for going out every day rain or shine, going off road etc, and would take a lot of wear. They are easy to fold, lots of storage space, serious rain and sun covers, and don't mind a bit of mud. To me it's like buying a Bosch or a Miele rather than a Smeg.

iCandy have always looked pretty but a bit shoddy to me, like having rigid wheels rather than inflatable ones, and so forth. Maybe people just don't want to pay as much for last year's fashion item?

LillianGish · 04/02/2018 21:59

If you can afford to splash out that much money on a new buggy you donโ€™t really need to sell off your old baby stuff do you? I always gave my stuff away to good homes. I think the sort of person who is buying second hand isnโ€™t looking for something that costs ยฃ400 - you are lucky you could pay top whack for a shiny new pushchair so pass some of that luck down line.

Charolais · 04/02/2018 22:01

I had a quick look for you; www.icandyworld.com/uk/en/collections/icandy-pre-loved.html

idontlikealdi · 04/02/2018 22:04

I sold my bugaboo donkey for ยฃ900 BUT it was seven months old, there were hardly any others on the second hand market, I got it when they first came out and got decked off with the size of it pretty quickly.

There's so many second hand now I would never get that, same with the I candy. Ask for ยฃ200 and see what happens.

Nicknacky · 04/02/2018 22:07

lillian Luck dosent come into it. We worked a lot of hours to pay for what we have and anything I get when I resell goes towards the new buggy or new bed etc. Just because you can afford new doesn't mean you are rich enough that you can give away things for nothing. What a ridiculous post!

essietopcoat · 04/02/2018 22:13

i wouldn't pay ยฃ400 for a secondhand pushchair - many moons ago I tried to sell our pushchair - which had been bought new and I couldn't give it away.

glueandstick · 04/02/2018 22:16

Itโ€™s got bugger all to do with luck! Itโ€™s like saying that all โ€˜richโ€™ people should give you stuff for free because they can afford it. Utter nonsense.

Theshipsong · 04/02/2018 22:22

I think you are asking too much. iCandys don't seem to hold their value so much.

I sold two bugaboos for the same price I had paid for them (although the initial outlay was big).

However I then had another brand, Phil & Teds, and I could barely give it away. In the end I sold it for fifty pounds and it was in super condition as I had barely used it and even still had the receipt! An item is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay!

givemesteel · 04/02/2018 22:22

OP you say you're in N Ireland, maybe that is affecting price.

I don't know N Ireland AT ALL so this is not a comment about the area, but I noticed when I was looking for a second hand bugaboo that there was a MASSIVE difference between what people where charging on gumtree and eBay in the North of England v London, literally ยฃ150 in London.

You've got to work with your local market.

Personally I wasn't willing to drive further than half an hour to buy one in case I turned up and there was something broken so a wasted journey etc. So you have to work with your local market.

As it was I bought an ex display, old model from a local shop for not much more than the 2nd hand ones.

There's always a bit of a baby boom I'm September so maybe you'll have more luck in the summer.

givemesteel · 04/02/2018 22:23

That should say ยฃ150 more in London - was about ยฃ400 up north v ยฃ650 in London

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 04/02/2018 22:38

eBay. I got over ยฃ700 for my Icandy twin.

hungryhenryshouldeatelsewhere · 05/02/2018 06:43

@Bigfatchips DFOD. Your hate-filled post smacks of jealousy.

TheVeryHungryDieter · 05/02/2018 06:56

@TwinklyGiraffe Try WeBuyYourBuggy dot com- it's a service which will give you a quote and if you're happy to sell it for that price, they'll send a box and a courier for it. I heard about it only the other day from a colleague and I might be using it for DD's buggy yet!

NeverTwerkNaked · 05/02/2018 07:29

โ€œIcandyโ€ is a lot about branding. My mum bought and Icandy for the grandchildren and I found it far less easy to use than my unfashionable pram (we were saving for a new house, no way was I going to spend lots on a pram)

People buying second hand are far less likely to be foolish enough to want to pay more for a โ€œbrandโ€. Which is why the prams drop in value fast

Youโ€™re going to decide whether you want to shift it fast or hang on for the price you want.

Itโ€™s only worth what someone is prepared to pay

NotSoSureX · 05/02/2018 07:34

I find that my stuff never sells for the asking price. on the other hand, anything I want to buy second hand is always expensive. I.e yoyo pushchair sold for 219ยฃ on eBay. New for 250 or so ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™„

Thursdaydreaming · 05/02/2018 08:10

YANBU to buy an expensive pram if you want it but you won't be able to sell it for anywhere close to that amount. Yes you wanted a shiny new one, well so does everybody.

I bought a second hand icandy raspberry off fb for ยฃ100 and I feel I overpaid for it.

Steeley113 · 05/02/2018 08:18

Dunno why everyone is calling you foolish for buying a new pram. I hate seeing newborns in rickety cheapo prams. I had new icandys for my first 2 boys and must admit, lost a lot of money when I sold them on but I never expected them to hold value. I bought new because they were what I wanted, in the colour I wanted and I didnโ€™t have to scour selling sites to get exactly what I wanted.

However 3rd time round I accidentally came across the exact silver cross I wanted in the colour for a quarter of the price New. I sold the car seat on and bought new and paid for it to be steam cleaned. That took it up to just under half itโ€™s retail price. Bargain. People just wonโ€™t pay for 2nd hand Iโ€™m afraid.

fallenblossom · 05/02/2018 09:19

Some bitter commentary here. I am just wondering if the reverse happened and some of us started saying those who can't afford more than 100 pounds for a pram shouldn't be having a baby. Calling someone a mug for spending 1000 plus on a pram says far more about you than the person who bought the expensive item.

I spent loads on a Bugaboo Chameleon 3 with limited edition Missoni accessories and every single thing that went with it (including coffee cup holder) I passed it on, in excellent condition, to my sister. So not sure what I would have got for it second hand. My stokke cot and changing station retained a good second hand price though. Guess it depends on the item.

Maybebabybee · 05/02/2018 09:36

I'm not remotely bitter - we could have spent ยฃ1000 if we wanted to. As it happens we spent ยฃ400 and it has lasted brilliantly and will be used again.

Nothing to do with jealousy or bitterness.

tamepanda · 05/02/2018 09:38

If you've got lots of bits to sell why not take it and them to a Jack & Jill market.

Steeley113 · 05/02/2018 09:39

@Maybebabybee you paid 400 for a single, OP got a double so you expect double the price Hmm

computationalAspects · 05/02/2018 09:42

@NickNacky

"Are we all supposed to live in the cheapest smallest houses? Drive the cheapest cars? Shop in charity shops and eat value baked beans every night?"

It seems to be inversely proportional though where those who can least afford it spend most.
