Would this seem odd to you?

Rather be ill in bed with the shits, than be a GF snitching on colleagues.

Ha! I end up working from my sick bed! The nature of my job at the moment. Updating facebook simply isn't an issue.

One of the main reasons from staying off work when ill is to avoid passing their bug onto others.

Good grief. I've been off sick due to pain / effects of painkillers related to a problem awaiting surgery. I've been playing Words With Friends with my boss on and off in the evenings.

We do have to speak to a manager when calling in sick except in really exceptional circumstances though.

I call reverse.

Who's bitched about you?

It could be that OP is the sick one. The OP is deliberately vague.

How do you know they accepted a Friend request?
Please say you weren’t trying to set them up do you could tell everyone they weren’t really sick.
You wouldn’t be that much of a dick would you?

I know a few people who got sick this winter and lost their voices.
I'm sure they'd be able to go on FB and click accept friend.

FFS. Of course it's ok to facebook when you're ill.

It's not totally advisable if you're off your face on painkillers or high with a temperature due to flu, because fuck knows what mad thing you might post, but if it's something common-or-garden then a bit of light facebooking is hardly going to delay your recovery. Gives one something to do whilst on the loo waiting for the noro to work its way through, for example.

I managed to WhatsApp friends when in intensive care with sepsis, so no, not odd at all. Why would it be odd? Unless she said she couldn’t work because she had broken thumbs.

I can't see a problem with being on FB when sick, or on any other site. It's just a distraction, that's all, same as reading a book or watching telly.

Last time I was off sick (it's been quite a while so I can't quite remember) I had D&V, in between bathroom visits I was reading my phone and on FB. But there's no way I could have gone to work.

What's odd about it? Confused

Not at all. I encouraged an employee to still go on their holiday while signed off work.

Unless of course they are off due to broken fingers or fused eyelids or similar.

Oh, dear. This sounds like me when ds,14, is off sick with slightly questionable, vague symptoms. (How can you ever really know how ill they feel?)

It also depends if you ended up looking at their drunken photos from last night.Grin

In which case they were both sick and stupid.

I'm picturing OP as a coworker sitting with another coworker both miffed because third coworker called sick so they have to 'carry her load'. One coworker sends the 'friend' request so they have something to bitch about 'proof' she isn't ill.

Sad.

People wonder why I don’t have work friends on my Facebook and think I’m too strict about separation of work and social media.

Now they know why.

When I'm off sick I tend to have spend at least half an hour in the morning sorting out work on the computer. Sometimes longer - joys of being a teacher.

Some poor, misguided, narrow minded people are of the opinion you can only be off sick if you are confined to your darkened bedroom with zero stimulus, hidden from the outside world lest you be accused of lying about your capability of working.

But enough about the DWP.

Why is it odd? Unless they're off because they've had all their fingers removed.

I remember dragging myself out of my sick bed to the chemist once, got some painkillers and went home to bed, some busybody reported me.

Depends what kind of ‘sick’ she is, if she has a bad cold or a stomach bug then she’s capable of logging on to Facebook? If she’s had her arms and legs cut off or acid chucked in her eyes then she can’t Grin

OP, what do you do when your ill? I tend to go to bed with my iPad, trawl through the crap on Facebook to make me feel better about my life.

Lweji, I once went out on a work piss up, got in late to be informed that a close family member had died. Rang my boss the next morning and they thought I was joking and they laughed! 😬

Another time I went on a (different job) work piss up, fell over on my way home and knocked my front teeth out - spent the next day going back and for emergency dentists etc. I couldn't talk then either, so DH had to speak to work on my behalf.

OP, it is perfectly possible for someone to use social media yet still be too ill to work (or talk to work). I'm sure the rest of the posts above made that clear enough though Grin

What a ridiculous op. I had a temp of 40c friday night. I still managed to type a couple of posts here even though one was astonishingly sweary and a bit of a shock when I discovered it yesterday morning
I wasn't capable of working, but my thumbs were apparently capable of typing stuff out.

I feel like utter shite today. Horrible flu-ey type bug (ahem..hangover..ahem)

I can use my eyes and thumbs fine
