This is my second day off work sick. I'm in bed as feel shaky and dizzy if I stand up, but I can still use Facebook and Mumsnet in my phone! Would you say someone shouldn't be off sick if they're well enough to read a book? Hmm

When I was in hospital having spinal surgery I was posting just an hour after coming out of recovery. Admittedly it was garbled nonsense due to the morphine!

I then spent weeks stuck in bed at home unable to do anything other than walk to the bathroom for a wee because the wound kept reopening and basically just wouldn't heal. The only advice I got given was to stop moving about. So laying in bed with my phone or kindle was about the only entertainment I had and my only connection with 'outside' until dp and dd2 got home.

Being off sick is the perfect time to laze around on Facebook and Netflix

I was WhatsApping friends towards the end of my stay in intensive care. My manager was texting me too.

Draylon I said you were talking nonsense not that I didn't understand your point. Repeating it and adding in some strange guff about spider tattoos hasn't changed that.

I’m off sick at the minute, have a stoma and have blocked my small bowel so in pain, nausea, sickness, fever etc

I’m still browsing fb. In fact, my boss tagged me in an article on fb on Monday, the article stated that day was the most common day of the year to phone in sick. He commented something along the lines of ‘I’ll be keeping an eye on u next year ;) ) I replied back with the middle finger emoji.

We were only colleagues before he got promoted, that’s why I have him on my friends list.

But yeah I’m still confined to bed for the day with Netflix on my iPad and fb or mn on my phone. Nothing wrong with that! Glad you’re not my manager OP

Draylon, if you are so sure that we should stay off FB when sick, please explain to me the difference between reading a book using my Kindle app or using FB while in bed sick.

See, FB isn't banned, it's just stupid to be seen on your feed if you're citing 'off, ill', too incapacitated to work.

I spent a week in HDU with sepsis once. Everyone on that bay was facebooking/mobiling, theres no tvs in there and theres fuck all else to do apart from rest and get better. None of our bosses thought we were 'stupid'.

We had a lad off sick once and the next thing I was watching Glastonbury and there he was, fit as a fiddle performing on the New bands stage. Shit they were too!

If I'm laid up with whatever then I'm on Facebook cause I'm a nosy cow!

Luckily Drayton I have normal sensible and intelligent managers who know the difference between different types of illnesses.

And I think if any eejit boss had questioned it, the neurosurgeon would have been very "wtf, of course she can't work but that doesn't mean her hands are broken"

Draylon - I used social media after an op. Given I had cauda equina there was no way I could work as recovery meant not sitting for longer than 45 minutes (desk job) and I spent most of my time flat or standing
But yes I put makeup on, used social media and was well enough to chat on the phone. But signed off for 8 weeks

What a load of bollocks.
There are many, many illnesses that you can be at home and FB'ing and if the employer used their feed as a reason to discriminate this says more about the company than the person off sick.

But I suppose the person who is off for D&V and has to stay at home for 48 hours the last puke/shit shouldn't post.
The person with a broken limb and works in an industry preventing the person going in, cannot post.
The person who is going through chemo cannot post.

Don't talk nonsense.

My current boss. Have been mates for years. We knew each other before working with each other. He started as a midday meal supervisor, back in the days before FB. As he progressed, so did FB. He was a teacher back in its early days. He, of course, isn't a robot and over the years has had days off, and moved schools. Glowing references from previous schools. He's now a Headteacher.
So how does this fit into the bollocks you are spouting?

He, of course, isn't the only person who has risen through the ranks and gained promotion whilst having an online FB profile and posting when ill.

Completely depends on the reason you are off work sick surely?

Don't forget too, that people can post photos and tag you in them of days or nights out from ages ago. It doesn't mean you are at the actual event there and then just because a photo has been posted, the event might have been a week ago and the person has only just got around to posting the photos. It doesn't look good if you're off sick, but its certainly not concrete evidence by itself.

Although, if you've lost your voice, ringing in yourself is pretty convincing! I did this once when I worked in a call centre. I croaked, "I don't think I'd be much use today!" Unsurprisingly, they agreed! 😂

A few years ago I woke up feeling extremely sick. I could tell I had non-contagious a bacterial infection so went to the GP for antibiotics. My dad gave me a lift as I couldn't drive and both my parents wanted to take me to the hospital rather than the GP but I just desperately wanted to get my medication and go back to bed. The GP had other ideas and called an ambulance for me herself. I ended up in hospital for several days but after the first few hours of feeling like death, I was well enough to browse on my phone as long as I kept my feet higher than my head and didn't tangle up the multiple IVs sticking out of me.

The point is that even extremely sick people can be on Facebook. It's less exertion than doing a word search or reading a story.

I'd have lost the plot this last few days without my phone. Too ill to do more than stagger to the loo but easily able to click, when I wasn't delirious or asleep.

(And another migraine sufferer here who gets told I cannot possibly have a migraine because I can function through them, visual disturbances, confusion and slurring notwithstanding)

Please OP do confirm if ee are talking about THE facebook where to engage on it you need to be able to hold your phone and touch the screen a few times?

Unless said person called 8n sick with paralysis then I don't think you can use this to beat them wirh. You'll have to find something else for that.
