Would this seem odd to you?

OP posts:
MissMary0fSweden · 04/02/2018 16:38

Hang on... or was the person they friended the same one who did the ringing in?

Cos that would be weird Grin

JustDanceAddict · 04/02/2018 16:39

NO!

StealthPolarBear · 04/02/2018 16:39

If her job is Facebook friend request accepted then yanbu

Slitherout · 04/02/2018 16:39

Some people will only accept being off sick if you're incapable of doing anything except lie in bed. Those are often the people who bring their d&v or tonsillitis to work and give it to other people so tonnes of people eventually end up being off instead of one Angry

iklboo · 04/02/2018 16:41

Are you ill person OP and someone has had a go at you?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 04/02/2018 16:41

If I'm lying in bed ill, no TV in the bedroom, my smartphone is my only entertainment. YABU.

YouCantBeSirius · 04/02/2018 16:41

Unless they are supposed to be in a coma then I don't see a problem

SundaysFunday · 04/02/2018 16:42

I don't see a problem going on FB when you are ill in bed.

Eatalot · 04/02/2018 16:42

You can set phone to update you. So a sick person in bed phone pings and you can accept at click of a button. Especially if the request is off your boss. Since you know this person is off sick and who phoned my money is on boss or at least nosy colleague. Either way you sent request to snoop on sick person? And now made they accepted? Yabu and a bit creepy.

Eatalot · 04/02/2018 16:43

Mad not made

Bluegrass · 04/02/2018 16:43

I’ll and miserable?

Watch tv - fine.

Stare at your phone, push the odd button - burn the fucker, they’re faking it!!!

Buglife · 04/02/2018 16:43

Do you have to be absolutely comatose/incapacitated to be off sick? If not then of course someone can friend you back on Facebook whilst still being too ill for work! One takes a second using one thumb, whereas a working day requires hours of work and a commute?!

Also admit it OP you are manager/workmate and you friended them just to ‘catch them out?’

Laiste · 04/02/2018 16:45

I've got glands the size of golf balls under my neck today and it feels like i've swallowed a cheese grater. I can't speak but i can type :)

Redglitter · 04/02/2018 16:46

What part is it seems odd to you

I was off work sick recently. I was in hospital. I couldn't contact work to report sick initially so someone else did it for me. I was able to go on fb though

Straycatblue · 04/02/2018 16:46

If her job is Facebook friend request accepted then yanbu

Grin

Some poor, misguided, narrow minded people are of the opinion you can only be off sick if you are confined to your darkened bedroom with zero stimulus, hidden from the outside world lest you be accused of lying about your capability of working.

Tarraleaha · 04/02/2018 16:46

what else are you supposed to do when you are in bed sick than going on social media and watching crap tv? I was on FB whilst waiting for surgery, just taking my mind off things.

LemonysSnicket · 04/02/2018 16:47

Tonsillitis or strep throat etc could mean they can’t speak on the phone ... capable of moving a finger on a phone though ... what an odd question.

AtseneGatnalp · 04/02/2018 16:49

Called in sick? Or called in dead?

O this did make me laugh @MissMaryOfSweden. And on a day when I needed it!

ScootieAllan · 04/02/2018 16:50

An aunt of mine was terminally ill and tweeting earlier in the day she died. She was quite literally at death's door but still managing to update social media. So it doesn't seem at all unbelievable to me that someone with, say, flu, would accept a fb request.

Bluegrass · 04/02/2018 16:50

This is why people feel obliged to put on the ‘i’m so weak I’m almost dying’ voice when they phone in sick. Just don’t, please.

I can be ill with something that would be ridiculous to risk spreading around the office, doesn’t mean I talk like I’m on the verge of death.

Bluntness100 · 04/02/2018 16:50

Is there a rule that if you're off sick you can't accept Facebook requests. Like you have to prove you're in full health or something

If not, then it's you who is being odd.

Mrsmadevans · 04/02/2018 16:51

Can you expand a little OP ?

CheeseAndOnionIceCream · 04/02/2018 16:51

When I was still working,I got the impression from my boss and colleagues that if you phoned in sick, you were expected to lie motionless in bed, just staring at the ceiling. Their opinion was that if you were able to hold a phone or a tablet/iPad,you were well enough to go in to work. Ridiculous.

Praisebe · 04/02/2018 16:51

You can stare at your phone whilst laid down sideways in bed Hmm not much else to do if your bedbound and ill

MistyMeadow · 04/02/2018 16:52

I'd say people off sick are probably nervous more likely that others to be on Fb, not weird at all!
