Just watched the clip of Jacob rees mogg at Bristol university, when a few momentum activists try to cause havoc and stop him from talking

Whatever anyone thinks of this man, I have to say he was pretty gutsy going up to them, considering they are all hiding behind Balaclavas and scarves and there wasn't any security there.
Most politicians wouldn't have gone near them, let alone try to talk to them

I like him. Yes his views are controversial and I don't agree with some of them, but at least he stands up for what he believes in

I also like that he is one of the few (if any) politicians prepared to stand up and call out the utter fiction of saying someone with a penis can be a woman.

I agree that if you have a penis you are not by virtue of common-sense, let alone biology, a woman. However, I also happen to think he or anyone but the woman in question should not have any say in what she does with her womb and its contents.

Justabunchofcunts · 02/02/2018 23:53

I would struggle to vote for him as PM but think he'd make a great Dr Who.

Grrrrrsnarl · 02/02/2018 23:55

Just because I said I liked him didn't mean I thought he was a lovely man.
I like him because everyone complains that Theresa may is weak and he clearly isn't.

I admire him for what he did trying to talk with those uneducated morons from momentum / antifa

Politics aside - anyone supporting or refusing to condemn the behaviour of the momentum fuckwits are also fuckwits.

Politics included - is this what Labour stand for now? Shout and scream and try to intimidate anyone with opposing opinions? No thank you, they should be sent back to the hole they emerged from

PinkertonSmythe · 02/02/2018 23:57

Welcome to the true face of the Corbynite left ... assuming you could see it behind the cowards' balaclavas!

Grrrrrsnarl · 02/02/2018 23:59

One has already been named from momentum and his girlfriend (who claimed she had been punched)

It wasn't Bristol University, it was the University of the West of England.

Bejazzled · 03/02/2018 00:02

One has already been named from momentum and his girlfriend (who claimed she had been punched)

Punched eh? Liar.

Justabunchofcunts · 03/02/2018 00:03

Labour seem to be driving right off the part of the map with democracy on it. Wonder where they're heading.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/02/2018 00:09

I'm amazed he was allowed to speak at all - if he was a woman going to speak about being black and Lesbian (Linda Bellos) or about women's issues in general (Germaine Greer) then he would have been no-platformed for being a woman his views.

Actually, I think almost anybody should be allowed to speak and not 'no-platformed'. I also agree with the right to peaceful protest and the encouraging of debate about the content of the speech.

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/02/2018 00:10

I have far more respect for people who hold unpopular views and stand by them than people who pretend otherwise. I cannot stand JRM's views and beliefs however I prefer him to anyone who was a member of the BNP and kicked off when they were "outed" because they didnt want anyone to know.

If you are racist or sexist or any other kind of "ist" at least fucking own it!

GrockleBocs · 03/02/2018 00:11

I am managing to vehemently dislike JRM and Momentum. It's not difficult to like the old fashioned Tory and the Red Army type movement.

Bejazzled · 03/02/2018 00:18

I hope this thread doesn't go down the road of victim blaming. As in 'well he's a Tory so deserves it'
That would be extremely unintelligent.

BMW6 · 03/02/2018 00:19

I dont agree with most if not all of JRM's opinions. But I will fight for the right of his freedom to express them.
Momentum on the other hand belong to the "If you are not with us then you are against us" Fascist philosophy. History teaches us where that path leads.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 03/02/2018 00:22

The idea of someone so indescribably posh trying to separate people in a fight is weird.

I keep hearing a Scouse accent shouting "Leave it! E's not worth it! Leave it!"

JRM is a reactionary Catholic who'd happily send the UK into the dark age the Northern Irish are suffering under.

British politics is beyond a joke and the level of debate is being lowered to soundbites and punches......

BackforGood · 03/02/2018 00:30

I'd rather know an honest arsehole than one who pretends to be something they aren't.

This ^

I think I've disagreed with most things that JRM has said, but I like the fact I know what he stands for, and he's not just trotting out what he thinks will win him a bit of popularity, or saying things he doesn't believe in.

I've never heard of Momentum, but it's pretty immature to cover your face and boorishly shout over anyone who is trying to speak. Hardly a sign of intelligence. Fully developed thinkers would debate their views.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/02/2018 00:34

I don't agree with JRM's personal views, but I actually admire him as a politician.
He's always willing to engage & debate with all the people who pop up trying to shout him down & he is honest (which is lacking amongst the political norms).

The momentum/antifa lot are just a bunch of shouty kids who think they're double hard in their balaclavas shouting at public figures, but wouldn't last 2 mins behaving like that in the real world.
More often than not they're the entitled & shouty offspring of privileged/middle class parents.

mothertruck3r · 03/02/2018 00:37

Antifa are just a bunch of neaderthal thugs who use violence to intimidate anyone who they disagree with, ironically much like the Nazis, to silence the opposition. I am surprised they haven't resorted to burning books. They are not the kind of people who Labour should want representing them, even if not officially.

The Alt-left are simply the other side of the coin to the Alt-right.

Julie8008 · 03/02/2018 00:52

Maybe Corbyn has been asking his friends in the IRA for some help.

monkeyneedsahug · 03/02/2018 00:55

Rather convenient that he's involved in a scuffle just as he's in trouble for lying to Parliament, eh?

monkeyneedsahug · 03/02/2018 00:57

And when I say 'trouble', I mean "actively being allowed to get away with it".

MeYouYouMe · 03/02/2018 01:02

OP

Your answer re the poster saying that he doesn't believe in women's rights or same sex marriage was....
Neither do other religions, but no-one questions them.

Did you mean to say that because, if so, it's a very odd thing to think. Do you ever watch any current affair programs or read newspapers?

BTW JRM is a twit. I understand he is well educated but he still comes across as inarticulate and a bit thick. He is a pompous and ridiculous person

Do you seriously 'like' someone that thinks women who are made pregnant by a rapist are committing a 'second wrong' if they have an abortion. That's just plain cruel.

I'm also surprised anyone would admit to liking someone who is against same sex marriage.

makeourfuture · 03/02/2018 06:42

when a few momentum activists

There is no indication that this is true. An investigation will take place.

twattymctwatterson · 03/02/2018 07:10

Sorry, JRM is a prick.

Argeles · 03/02/2018 07:15

I don’t agree with the vast majority of things that he says and believes in, but I love the fact that he is open and honest about his beliefs.

I’m a Labour voter, and very Centrist and a little left in some of my views, but I hate this consensus that seems to exist now that if someone’s opinion isn’t ‘lefty’ or completely inoffensive, then it must be shouted down and not tolerated.

I was a University student in the mid 2000’s in a working class area, and so wasn’t too surprised to find huge Labour/Leftist views on campus amongst students. I am now back at a Central London uni several years later after Teaching, and I’m shocked at the completely outward Leftist/Labour supporting opinions and viewpoints constantly being spouted out by our Lecturers in our lectures and seminars. It’s happening in every single lecture. As a Teacher I would never have done this - it’s not appropriate.

There are casual ‘asides’ and bits of ‘banter’ poking fun at the current government in the middle of lectures, but the actual content and delivery of the lectures concerns me too - it’s like brainwashing. Everything is taught from a Leftist perspective, and in discussions, anyone who disagrees in the slightest is treated like an idiot or a bigot, and quickly ‘shut down.’

My subject relies heavily on discussion, and apparently personal opinions, but there are a few of us who remain silent at times, as our opinions do not fit with the ‘consensus,’ and it’s just not worth the effort.

Back to JRM, I certainly wouldn’t say no to him! He’s got that Headteacher type appeal. I’d probably be a bit worried about getting pregnant though... I clearly wouldn’t be allowed any options/rights.
