Just watched the clip of Jacob rees mogg at Bristol university, when a few momentum activists try to cause havoc and stop him from talking

Whatever anyone thinks of this man, I have to say he was pretty gutsy going up to them, considering they are all hiding behind Balaclavas and scarves and there wasn't any security there.
Most politicians wouldn't have gone near them, let alone try to talk to them

I like him. Yes his views are controversial and I don't agree with some of them, but at least he stands up for what he believes in

Yes the far left are twats and will tear up the Labour Party. We need the centre left to take control, I’m hoping that Stella Creasy becomes leader one day. She’s very sensible.

Nevertheless, if the far left are such an issue why did government anti terrorist organisations state yesterday that Prevent referrals to try and de-programme youngsters from carrying out terrorist attacks are now 1/3 far right and fast catching up with the Islamic terrorism wannabes?

Parents need to look closely at what their boys are reading online, the far right and Jahadis are targeting your kids. Even on here I see frequent attempts from the alt-right to try and manipulate opinion. It’s quite scary.

I don’t agree with a sizeable chunk of what JRM has to say, and he doesn’t happen to be my MP (mine is lower profile but in many ways not wholly dissimilar) however he is the elected MP for a ward very near where I live and - from what friends and colleagues say - an engaged, accessible MP at that. Many of them actively chose to vote for him having weighed up the alternatives. He was invited to speak at an event. Those who disagree with him could have engaged him in debate - he knows people disagree with him, as the clip shows he is perfectly willing to engage with people who disagree with him. I have zero respect for any group that thinks it is acceptable to storm in violently, covering their faces (bloody cowards) and shout over someone to try to silence them. I see this as a free speech issue. Thoroughly unacceptable. To be honest I think the “momentum” people come across as being too stupid to actually engage properly, so resorting to thug tactics, and JRM comes out of it very well.

Again, aside from the incriminating pie crust, we do not know who these people were

makeourfuture, we all know they were left wing extremists. You look a bit silly trying to pretend they're not.

I like JRM at least he is honest statement is a joke sorry. I have never voted Tory, Liberal, SDP and Libdem and now I vote Greens or Labour. But JRM is a total hypocrite, he against abortion/same sex marriage, but his own family/business heavily invest in companys producing abortion products/abortion clinics. Also companies who arrange gay marriages. So he total wants women to have no say over their own bodies/ make lbgt people second class cutizens, but still happy to profit from everything he depises

The organiser of the even said they were antifa = left wing extremists.

....and I forgot to say that if JRM is the answer to anything in the 21C than this country is in even more trouble than I thought. The class structure has corrupted the fabric of this country to the point when huge swaths of people appear to want a return to feudalism. They literally get a hard on at the sound and sight of one of their betters and can’t wait to bow down and let the ‘born to rule’ crowd control them.

Momentum are hideous and as much as I don’t like Rees-Mogg’s views, good for him in this instance.

Oh, so who do you think it was? The militant wing of the hamster rights federation? Grin
Loving Eltonjohnssyrup posts.

It’s true, the far left are as dangerous as the far right, but all you get on here is hysterical posts about Nigel Farage.

Make - we don't know who they are in no small part because they hid their faces. Are you so desperate to support momentum that you condone that??

The police will have simply pulled off the ski caps and established their identity. There is no Baader Meinhof here.

If they were momentum, they would have been wearing red Jeremy Corbyn t shirts.

JRM came across well, whereas Momentum showed themselves up. If you get to the point of being unable to even engage, where can you go from there. They came across as immature fools. Being calm and measured has strength, JRM had it.

Doesn’t matter who they were. They were enemies of democracy, and arseholes.

The type of treatment Diane Abbot receives - even here - is far, far worse than this scuffle.

I like him because he's honest about his beliefs and is happy to be judged on them. He's articulate enough for me to understand his opinion and why he's formed them. I think he's the epitome of 'I may not like your beliefs but I'll defend ...'

I like him more after this incident and like Antifa, Momentum etc even less.

Again. We do not know who these people were or who they may represent.

Diane Abbott is being paid a lot of money to do a job that a lot of people don't think she's equipped to do.

Since when did two wrongs "make" a right?

(Or does that happen when you go so far left that you end up on the right?!)

yep- I can quite understand that

“I like him more after this incident and like Antifa, Momentum etc even less.”

nope- can’t see that at all. Why would you like someone more because they’ve been heckled? By that token, Diane Abbot should be the most popular politician in Britain!

Diane Abbott should NOT be subjected to any kind of attack physical or otherwise. It is absolutely disgusting!

The judiciary needs to address this problem immediately, we can not have people storming around with balaclavas etc attacking Members of Parliament. A severe sentence should be used as a deterrent. It will serve not just the MPs representing us of all parties, but it would also make our country feel much more safer, democratic and decent place to live.

Agree.

But if you condemn the harassment & bullying tactics employed against Diane, then by extension you must equally condemn the antifa/momentum thugs.

So, do you condemn the shouty, aggressive, thuggish behaviour of your momentum comrades?

No, I like him more because of the way he handled himself and the way he responded.

In this country we don't need the far left, anymore than we need the far right. Since when did it all become so extreme.

Our country has always flourished in the centre, it is where most people feel comfortable and it usually serves us well.

Extreme views and parties will destabilise the country, that is fine for all the anarchists (and some students) but for those of us simply trying to raise a family and live a happy life we need a grown up in charge.

Diane Abbott gets a lot of things incredibly wrong and she deserves mocking and calling out for that.

But the racist abuse she receives is awful and people doing it should be prosecuted. But there does seem to be a strand of using that to shut down legitimate criticism of her.

Incidentally, Abbott's abuse has been online. Aside from the awful Jo Cox case, the vast majority of abuse and threats came from the left wing. There have been multiple reports of MPs CHILDREN being targeted. And this is supposed to be kinder, gentler politics?

Well I think Mogg fits an engrained nostalgic image of what a politician is supposed to look like. Abbott may just not fit into that as well.

We have to be careful of letting these sorts of biases affect things.
