I'm politically neautral on Brexit, it's a complicated issue, but I'm interested in the consequences that are coming out now. If you voted for Brexit, what were your reasons?

Has anyone ever seen Ghostoffrankgrimes & James O'Bren together?

llangennith · 30/01/2018 22:11

I didn’t give a moment’s thought to immigration when voting to leave.
When we originally joined a group of other European countries in a trade agreement it was ok, but it evolved into a bureaucratic despotic giant. I don’t want our country to be ruled by an unelected profligate EU.

Justanotherlurker · 30/01/2018 22:12

The modern euro-sceptic view is a minority view (in British political life). It started with John Major's "bastards" right through to Cameron's "swivel eyed loons". Most Tory MP's wanted to remain. Most Labour MP's wanted to remain. Most Labour voters wanted to remain. The leave supporting (right wing press) and the cynical and well financed leave campaigns played a huge part.

You're ignoring the fact that the head of the labour party has been a life long eurosceptic.

You're also ignoring that the remain campaign backed by the banking sector and big business was very well financed.

And you are still desperately trying to paint this is as a right/left wing issue

Boyslikepinkgirlslikeblue · 30/01/2018 22:15

Can you remind me why this is relevant to brexit?
The fact I have to explain this reveals a lot about your mind set. If you don't have a degree or skill, you need to compete harder for unskilled jobs. When free movement of people comes into play you are competing harder! 66% of eu migrants are unskilled/semi skilled. Do I really have to explain further?

Julie8008 · 30/01/2018 22:16

Probably never read the Daily Express in my life, but doesn't surprise me that newspapers reflect peoples views.

Remainers don't seem to like freedom of speech because it highlights that they are not getting what they want.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 30/01/2018 22:16

He might be but he is one member of the Labour party and not in government.

You're also ignoring that the remain campaign backed by the banking sector and big business was very well financed.

Business largely said leaving was a bad idea. I'm not aware they financed remain. Dyson and the Wetherspoon bloke were vocal leavers.

And you are still desperately trying to paint this is as a right/left wing issue

Its an internal squabble in the Tory party that will not relent.

Boyslikepinkgirlslikeblue · 30/01/2018 22:16

That's from ONS btw, before you ask for proof

Boyslikepinkgirlslikeblue · 30/01/2018 22:20

If the head of the Labour Party is a life long euro sceptic why did he back remain? Not very principled is it?

Julie8008 · 30/01/2018 22:20

I think you will find its an internal squabble in the UK that is reflected in political parties that govern us.

BoneyBackJefferson · 30/01/2018 22:22

Also as EU subsidies were brought up. Not all have been beneficial. various farming communities suffer under the EU giving money to farmers to not farm the land, of this encourages supermarkets to buy food from other EU sources whilst communities suffer due to being rural and lack of jobs.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 30/01/2018 22:22

The people who repeatedly try to frame the Ref vote as left/right political leanings are desperately lacking in critical thinking.

There were people who voted Leave, and people who voted Remain - both sides of the divide contained people from across all parties.
(Even to the extent that the surveys suggested there were UKIP voters who voted to remain!)

GhostofFrankGrimes · 30/01/2018 22:24

Migrants appear to be doing jobs that can't be filled by Brits.

I don’t get the left / right thing either, we’nt most leave voting areas labour?

Justanotherlurker · 30/01/2018 22:27

Business largely said leaving was a bad idea. I'm not aware they financed remain. Dyson and the Wetherspoon bloke were vocal leavers.

You are being willfully obtuse in your assertions, and i say this as a remainer

Its an internal squabble in the Tory party that will not relent.

You are still trying to paint it as right/left issue, you are still ignoring UKIP making grounds in labour heartlands, it was not tories jumping ship in numbers.

Boyslikepinkgirlslikeblue · 30/01/2018 22:29

The EU has nothing to do with left or right. For me it's about the British being able to come up with our own ideas of what a fair society means. That means everyone with a British citizenship. To me that will be more attainable with fewer people. Make us into one big state and less voices are heard. I'm not materialistic though I believe in people's voices

BoneyBackJefferson · 30/01/2018 22:30

Who would you pay for the job?

A gang master with a group of people that are prepared to be paid at a lower rate of pay that live with low costs due to living together and travelling to jobs.

or

The local workforce that needs to be paid at at least the NMW.

Its not that locals won't do the job its that the producers can get the workforce cheaper. (but lets not look in to the way these gangs are run)

Justanotherlurker · 30/01/2018 22:31

If the head of the Labour Party is a life long euro sceptic why did he back remain? Not very principled is it?

No he is the perfect vassal mp, his supporters just project onto him what they believe he stands for.

He is a life long politician playing the populist card, but that is a whole other thread

Boyslikepinkgirlslikeblue · 30/01/2018 22:32

@ghostoffrankgrimes what you mean the "grotty jobs" like working in care homes or picking fruit? Have you seen how sanctions work ffs out of touch by a long shot!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 30/01/2018 22:33

If you read the BBC article you would see that there was a reliance on migrant workers because unemployment was low in that area.

Moussemoose · 30/01/2018 22:34

Exactly how is the EU undemocratic?

It has a directly elected chamber. A body made up of elected governments and a civil service.

How is that undemocratic?

The UK parliament remains sovereign.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 30/01/2018 22:35

Sanctions implemented through British government policy you mean?

The referendum was the result of an internal Tory party squabble.

Brexit is a wider issue.

Boyslikepinkgirlslikeblue · 30/01/2018 22:36
