AIBU to go to Costa four times a week?

Reading all the threads about wasting money on coffees / mobile phones, I am wondering if most people would consider having a coffee in Costa four times a week an extravagance? I can afford it but am interested in hearing whether most people would consider this an unnecessary extravagance as my Dm and Mil are horrified at the wasting of money??

Not extravagant if you can afford it. I have coffee out several times a week and read the newspaper in perfect bliss. It’s my treat to myself and a hell of a lot cheaper than therapy. 😀

MickeyLuv · 28/01/2018 22:32

It would be an unnecessary extravagance as far as I'm concerned. I can't see the point, I'll have a coffee before leaving for work in the morning and/or make one when I get there. Why would I spend money buying one from a shop? You can probably tell I'm not a coffee shop type person, I probably haven't been in Costa 4 times in my life never mind per week!

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 28/01/2018 22:33

It's your money, it's your business how you spend it, what may be extravagant for one poster may be the norm for another poster, if you can afford it and you like it then go thereBrewGrin

If you're there to socialise then I can understand it but if you're by yourself, just drink at home instead ?!?!

SaucyJack · 28/01/2018 22:35

Your choice mate.

I wouldn't do it- but I don't like the general public. I'd never choose to sit in a coffee shop over going home and flopping on my own sofa.

Sparklingbrook · 28/01/2018 22:35

I had a Tassimo for Christmas so I have cut down on my vanilla Lattes whilst out because I can have them at home.

But I do like to sit in the local coffee shop with a book and a drink every now and again, it's just relaxing. I do it maybe twice a week.

MaisyPops · 28/01/2018 22:35

Your money = your problem

I think it is excessive and similar to burning fivers but there you go.

As long as you can afford it and aren't whining about having no money / can't afford x y z then it's up to you.

(E.g. i wouldn't think one costa a week is an issue but if someone was going 4 times a week and saying they couldn't afford to save then I'd be a bit Hmm)

BackforGood · 28/01/2018 22:36

Same as MickeyLuv. Does seem very extravagant to me, but then I've always had a coffee with my breakfast then paid into the tea fund at work.
I can see the point in meeting a friend for a coffee though I wouldn't go to Costa as an occasional treat - you are sort of paying for the 'space' and time o sit and chat for an hour, but just to have a drink, it seems a complete waste of money to me.
Of course, if you have plenty of cash, you are free to waste it in whatever way you like.

Sprinklestar · 28/01/2018 22:37

I meet a friend for a coffee most weekdays! Why not?

NapQueen · 28/01/2018 22:37

Meh...your life.

What pisses me off though is on MN if you talk about being skint/needing to cut back its all "skip the daily coffees/take a flask".

Ive had coffee out and about 3 times in 3 years. Yet its assumed everyone on here does it.

BahHumbygge · 28/01/2018 22:39

Put your numbers in here and see if there's anything you'd rather do with the money you'd save instead

I’d say 4 times a week is a fair bit

It becomes not a treat done that often

Plus unless you’re having milk free drinks the calories mount up too

WyfOfBathe · 28/01/2018 22:40

For me it would be an extravagance, because I couldn't afford it without making other sacrifices. But I do other extravagant things, eg buying books new when I could easily get them from the library for free.

If someone said they couldn't afford their rent but they were buying Costa four times a week, I'd be Hmm but if you can easily afford it and you enjoy it, then why not

WhirlwindHugs · 28/01/2018 22:41

If you spend a fiver a time that's 1k a year.

Completely fine if you can afford that!

user1471556443 · 28/01/2018 22:41

I go to Costa alone four times a week during my lunch break as I like to sit down in peace away from my workplace.
If I forgo my sitting down in Costa I feel really miserable for the Rest of the day

saladdays66 · 28/01/2018 22:42

Totally up to you. If you can enjoy it and can afford it, what’s the issue?

I hate coffee and overpriced coffee chains so would never go in there. But I probably buy stuff you don’t!

BulletFox · 28/01/2018 22:43

If you find it therapeutic then it's worth it.

Woollylane · 28/01/2018 22:44

To me it is, but then I don't see the point, I'm just as happy with a coffee from the kettle at home/work.

I have other things, like a takeaway once a week that costs £15 when I could eat shop bought for a fiver.

I buy books instead of going to the library, I buy some branded food instead of getting everything from Aldi.

Sparklingbrook · 28/01/2018 22:46

I think getting out of the workplace in your lunch hour is a must TBH.

c75kp0r · 28/01/2018 22:46

If you bought a sandwich in pret or similar every day it would cost even more.

Woollylane · 28/01/2018 22:46

If you want to cut back could you sit in the staff room/on a bench with a book and a coffee from the kettle?

It's really up to you though, I'd be miserable with my weekly takeaway.

pontiouspilates · 28/01/2018 22:49

Not extravagant but god awful coffee, so why would you?

PeaceRiot · 28/01/2018 22:51

I wouldn’t call it unreasonable and I’m sure I’ve done it although not consistently. If you feel yourself like you could use the money in a better way then I suggest a Tassimo machine (changed my life, but increased my caffeine addiction). And if you’re not already, take a reusable cup.

Indaro · 28/01/2018 22:52

It's a cheaper habit than going to the pub for a few pints 4 times a week.

You can afford it. It makes you feel happy. No harm done.

It'd be a waste of money for me personally but that's not remotely relevant to you.

OwlinaTree · 28/01/2018 22:52

In your opinion pontious, clearly not the ops.
