AIBU to go to Costa four times a week?

Reading all the threads about wasting money on coffees / mobile phones, I am wondering if most people would consider having a coffee in Costa four times a week an extravagance? I can afford it but am interested in hearing whether most people would consider this an unnecessary extravagance as my Dm and Mil are horrified at the wasting of money??

YABU Nero is much better. At least you didn't say Starbucks Grin

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 28/01/2018 22:55

YANBU, it's your money, spend it how you see fit but I will be aghast if you don't have a loyalty card. Four times a week is a lot of points!

HotelEuphoria · 28/01/2018 22:56

If you are happy to spend over forty quid a month on coffee that's fine. Adds up though doesn't it?

WhatKatyDidnt · 28/01/2018 22:56

I’m a big believer in the value of small treats. If you want to save money best to go for the biggies, like stopping running a car or reducing your mortgage/rent. However, I bet you can find a better coffee than at Costa Wink

BelleandBeast · 28/01/2018 22:56

Everybody needs their thing, as long as you can afford the £500 a year. Please invest in a reusable cup though.

Aroundtheworldandback · 28/01/2018 22:57

Not sure I’d want to go to Costa four times a week..

user1471556443 · 28/01/2018 22:58

The coffee is instead of buying lunch out as I don't eat at lunchtime so I feel like I am spending the money I saved on lunch on coffees instead?

Yanbu that's about how often I go, but sometimes with a friend or dd. I enjoy it, and it doesn't cost much as an outing. I'm an extrovert so I prefer being out of the house and enjoy reading or writing on my own in a cafe surrounded by people.

Before I had children I went out at least twice a week (£200 easily), and that doesn't happen any more. I can't get worked up about a tenner or so a week which I can afford.

hagsrus0 · 28/01/2018 23:00

Purely curious since I don't drink coffee, but how much does it cost? I looked up Costa online and it seems to be a couple of quid which doesn't seem that expensive if you have it to spare.

Parker231 · 28/01/2018 23:00

I probably go 4 times a week - went today to meet a friend. It’s a cheap afternoon. It’s a part of my weekly routine and one I enjoy and will continue with.

SockUnicorn · 28/01/2018 23:05

I have coffee / cake / lunch with friends out in coffee shops and farm shops around 3 times a week, i dont see it as a waste of money. However I dont smoke or drink where a lot of people do, so i like to spend my money on lunches.

NataliaOsipova · 28/01/2018 23:05

Why would you be unreasonable? Your time, your money. I spend my life in coffee shops while I'm waiting for my kids to finish their various activities, so four times a week would be unusually low for me!

DreamyMcDreamy · 28/01/2018 23:06

It's up to you. Why not?
I don't need to buy magazines or Pinot Grigio every week, but I do.
If you can easily afford it and you enjoy it, why not?

Well the coffee in costa is beyond terrible so yes. For £15 you could buy some real coffee. But if you can afford it they by all means buy it,

TroubleinDaFamily · 28/01/2018 23:07

I do Costa once a week, americano, with space for milk, no milk, with a millionaires shortbread... I have to go into town for this.

This would be Ok and limit my exposure, except I have discovered that DH (very, very DH, in this case Grin) can scoop up one or two shortbreads at Waterloo on an evening. I can then match that with a Costa Express Envy > on the road to Basingstoke...the following morning.

Addiction is never easy..... Grin

Giraffesarequitetall · 28/01/2018 23:08

Yes it is of course an unecessary extravagance as in it is money you don’t have to spend.

That doesn’t mean it’s worthless to you though and it sounds like you consider it money well spent and you can afford it so there is no problem and it is none of anyone else’s business.

BrownLiverSpot · 28/01/2018 23:10

Yanbu if you can afford it. Hopefully one day I'll be able to afford it as well.

OwlinaTree · 28/01/2018 23:11

Well eggson the op docent think so clearly so that's a bit of an unnecessary remark.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 28/01/2018 23:14

Im in a coffee shop 3/4 times a week usually

Sometimes more

But its with company

Im rarely there by myself but if its something you enjoy...why not

EggsonHeads · 28/01/2018 23:15

@Owlina it's more of an opportunity cost thing. she could be exploring a whole world of fine coffee at £15 a week. Not only could it make her life a bit more interesting it could also give her something slightly more interesting to talk about-off to start a coffee porn thread on that note.

Mrsmadevans · 28/01/2018 23:19

I detest spending my hard earned money on shit like this but if you want to do it then carry on. It really is up to you .

PickAChew · 28/01/2018 23:21

I can think of better things to spend £12 a week on than shit Costa coffee. If you're insistent on takeout coffee, at least get something palatable.

SaucyJack · 28/01/2018 23:23

Preferring one coffee shop over another doesn't make you interesting.

ameli · 28/01/2018 23:27

Your life your money but my last one used all my points very satisfying lol 😂
