Apparently this has already happened, back in July 2017. Shock

But the orange one try again...

We should probably start a new thread to rant about the NHS, Pain. Smile

We probably should!

The NSA maintains a page on its website outlining its mission statement. This month, the agency made a discreet change: It removed 'honesty' as its top priority.

The Intercept reports all references to 'trust,' 'honor,' and 'openness' have disappeared.

Trump’s EPA just ended a key policy under the Clean Air Act. Here are a few of the pollutants you will be breathing more of as a result:

Asbestos
Arsenic
Benzene
Chloroform
Cyanide
Formaldehyde
Lead
Mercury

If you're panicking about this, try to not take a deep breath.

I'm so surprised.

Trump Is No Role Model For Children, U.S. Voters Say 2-1; Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; He Does Not Provide Moral Leadership, Voters Say

It is important that a president be a good role model for children, 90 percent of American voters say, but President Donald Trump is not a good role model for children, these voters say 67 - 29 percent in a Quinnipiac University National Poll released today.

There is almost no gender gap in grading President Trump's standing as a role model. Every party, gender, education, age and racial group, except Republicans, say the president falls short, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds.

Republicans say 72 - 22 percent that Trump is a good role model for children. Another key element of the president's base, white voters with no college degree, say 54 - 41 percent that he is not a good role model for children.

President Trump does not provide the U.S. with moral leadership, American voters say 63 - 33 percent. Again, there is virtually no gender gap as all listed groups, except Republicans and white voters with no college degree, say by wide margins the president does not provide moral leadership. Republicans say 80 - 16 percent he does provide moral leadership and white voters with no college degree are divided 47 - 47 percent.

"For President Donald Trump, it's a troubling trifecta: Stagnant approval numbers, low grades on most character traits and the reality that if parents are looking for someone their kids should emulate, that person is not residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

Justice Ginsburg, nearing 85, signals she won’t retire soon

An inspiration to us all - and a few quotes from her
My mother told me to be a lady. And for her, that meant be your own person, be independent.
Women will only have true equality when men share with them the responsibility of bringing up the next generation.
The state controlling a woman would mean denying her full autonomy and full equality.

BiglyBadgers · 27/01/2018 18:30

I know this isn't strictly related to America, but I think it is a really interesting example of the far right trying to co-opt feminist views around things like trans issues. There is a thread on the feminism board where someone links to a Breitbart article talking about the sacking of a labour activists around the trans debate. Cue people saying what a great, well written article it is and how it shows that news outside the mainstream is now better at reporting these things.

I genuinely get a chill down my spine at the thought of Breitbart and so was shocked to see it linked in any sort of positive way, but also I think it really shows this tactic we have talked about before on here. When the far right sites like Breitbart try and jump on feminist and left ideals to give themselves a veneer of credibility. Also how easily people fall for it and do not consider the sources they are looking at. I wonder how many feminists have been sharing a breitbart article on social media and praising it for supporting women!

lionheart · 27/01/2018 19:05

Of course he does.

PerkingFaintly · 27/01/2018 20:19

Well TRAs are trolling feminism pretty effectively.

Look at the boards here: couldn't have a meaningful discussion with the Women's Equality Party because trans; posters saying they weren't going to support the original Women's Marches because trans; posters saying they can't support the Labour Party because trans.

All this when the party actually in power and planning to pass the GRA is the Conservative party.Hmm

Many posters on MN are doing sterling work teasing out what's going on with the TRAs, and what the balancing of rights should be. But it's sucking up serious amounts of time and energy which would otherwise have been spent enforcing employment rights and protesting against cuts to women's shelters and services heavily used by women.

So it looks like "because trans" is one of the issues the disruptivists (Breitbart among them) have picked to amplify in the UK.

We know this is true in the US, because the trolls got caught in the act.

Here's that screenshot I took around the time so-called "BostonAntifa"'s Twitter was showing location set to "Vladivostok, Russia" (I've posted this before).

Though there's now a suggestion "BostonAntifa" is right-wing trolls in Oregon.

Fake antifa Twitter account fools media on right and left
Right-wing actors appear to have taken their trolling game to another level.
thinkprogress.org/boston-antifa-russia-tweet-adb3b2ab4918/

Either way, they're right wing disruptivists attempting to troll the US left wing, and using trans issues to do it.

TL;DR version: I agree with Bigly and would go further.

The far right aren't just trying to co-opt feminist concerns: they're trying to create/amplify them. Win-win for them.

In Hampshire (Old Hampshire, that is).

Never gonna happen. If the government tried to do so, there'd be a HUGE uprising. Dare I even say Bigly Yugely Uprising?!?

Guess he won't be visiting then. Grin

And I'm one of those that hopes that the Royals invite Obama but not Trump for the upcoming wedding.

BiglyBadgers · 27/01/2018 20:30

Either way, they're right wing disruptivists attempting to troll the US left wing, and using trans issues to do it.

Yup, it's both interesting and disturbing to watch. It is something the left and feminism needs to be much more aware of and careful about. Another case of always check your sources and be aware. I lurk a lot on the feminism threads and find a lot of the trans discussion very thoughtful and thought provoking. We need to be careful not to get in these traps though. On the thread I got a fair bit of "but we should be open to people from all parts of the political spectrum" and "just because I agree with one thing they are saying doesn't mean I agree with everything". It made me realise how easy it is for people to get drawn in by rightwing stalking horses.

BiglyBadgers · 27/01/2018 20:33

In Hampshire (Old Hampshire, that is).

In actual, real Hampshire? Gosh.

PerkingFaintly · 27/01/2018 20:40
