Apparently this has already happened, back in July 2017. Shock

“Let the attention be on his slobbering self,” Ms Pelosi told House Democrats at their weekly private meeting, according to Politico. “If you want to walk out, don’t come in.”

She's right.

"Ms Pelosi has also reportedly predicted that expectations are so low for the unconventional President’s performance, that he will receive good reviews as long as “his nose isn’t running”.

The Senate just voted to confirm Trump's 13th U.S. appellate court judge — David Stras on the 8th Circuit.

POTUS and McConnell are reshaping the judiciary with young conservatives at a breakneck pace.

This is after McConnell all but ground Obama’s judicial nominations to a halt after becoming majority leader in 1/2015, leaving lots of vacancies. Elections matter.

Sen Dianne Feinstein
@SenFeinstein
For the first time in 30 years the Senate has confirmed a judge without having received sign-off from both home-state senators. Terrible! The Senate needs to protect its “advise and consent” role. Otherwise, it will become nothing more than a rubber stamp. #CourtsMatter

When the Trump admin announced yesterday it will NOT implement sanctions, it was effectively
openly,
publicly,
brazenly, and
with impunity
announcing it believes itself to be above the rule of law.

Did any GOP lawmakers indicate an intention to hold it accountable?

🚨

Some folks are mad at me for what I said in a thread I wrote last night, thinking it too grim.

This is coming from a (Democratic) U.S. senator.

(And she is one some “leftists” want to primary because they think she’s too “centrist.”)

Claire McCaskill‏Verified account
@clairecmc
Congress voted 517-5 to impose sanctions on Russia. The President decides to ignore that law. Folks that is a constitutional crisis. There should be outrage in every corner of this country.

At this point, the vast majority of folks who appear to have fear proportional to the threat we are facing are Muslims, immigrants, Black Americans, women, Holocaust survivors, Ukrainian-Americans, Russian dissidents, and historians.

In other words: largely the most vulnerable.

For those of you coming at me with “If you won’t tell us what to do to solve this, you shouldn’t be saying it at all”:

  1. Do not put that on me. I reject the mantle of savior.
  2. My job is to tell you what I think you need to know, not what you want to hear.

1/2

  1. Your job is to decide what actions are right for you: what privileges/resources are you willing to spend - and for whom? The answers will not be the same for all of us.
  2. Compassion matters. Listen to, connect with, and work on behalf of the most vulnerable among us.

2/2

When some people feel overwhelmed and scared, they tend to lash out and regress.

They understandably look for people to tell them what to do.

Here’s the thing:

THE ASCENDANCE OF AUTHORITARIANISM RELIES ON THIS REACTION.

Authoritarians WANT you to feel infantalized, dependent.

Democracy, on the other hand, challenges us to participate as mature, self-determining citizens.

(And, yes, I know the U.S. is a republic with representative and not direct democracy. Thanks.)

And to hold our elected representatives to account.

Democracy is NOT passive.

Pres Trump also said, "I would love to be able to bring our country into a great form of unity. Without a major event where people pull together, that's hard to do. But I would like to do it without that major event because usually that major event is not a good thing."

[R]
In private conversations, Trump has told advisors that he doesn't think the 2018 election has to be as bad as others are predicting. He has referenced the 2002 midterms, when George W. Bush and Republicans fared better after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, these people said.

OMG this is exactly what the freaks in PNAC wished for before 9/11--a "Pearl Harbor-type event" that would give them casus belli to invade the middle east. And this major even he wants isn't to pull US together, it's to consolidate his power as he implements fascism.

@TonyHealy4
2/... and if anybody remembers this should make you even more uneasy: the Moscow apartment building bombings in the 90s, blamed on the Chechens (aka Islamic terrorists), were what PUTIN USED TO CONSOLIDATE HIS POWER. Those bombings are largely believed now to have been... Putin.
