😊

That?

I have to tell you that EVERY time I see it I get irritated.

Smug...little smug face with it's "cute" blushing cheeks.

I want to drop kick it.

What do you think it conveys when you use it if you do?

According to Siri it is “hands raised in celebration”

Is that hands one not displaying properly for me? 🤔

Always interpret 🙃 as being silly. My mum uses it a lot!

Mission because they are different things.

Emoticon comes from "emote + icon" as they are small pictures/icons inserted into text by use of a code in order to express emotion. Before the pictures people used to type them out like :P or :D or :'(

Emoji is a Japanese word which comes from e + moji - picture + text. (Apparently the similarity to emoticon is just a coincidence.) Emoji started in Japanese mobile phones years before iphones were a thing.

Technically emoji are treated as and act as (from the computer's perspective) a type character, rather than an image. So differently displaying emojis are, if you like, different "fonts".

They look the same to the human user - a small picture or a smiley face - but to the computer they are very different things and that's why they act differently.

Can someone explain this one to me please 😪

To be it’s ‘I’ve got a cold and I’m full of snot’ but everyone else uses it for being upset.

These are upset surely?😢😥😰

retainertrainer · 29/01/2018 20:45

*to me

BertieBotts · 29/01/2018 21:06

Yes it's snot. People mistake it for a tear because a lot of emojis don't have noses and also because it's blue.

In Japanese cartoons a sleeping person is depicted with a large snot bubble instead of zzzzzzz like western cartoons, so it's meant to depict sleeping.
