😊

That?

I have to tell you that EVERY time I see it I get irritated.

Smug...little smug face with it's "cute" blushing cheeks.

I want to drop kick it.

What do you think it conveys when you use it if you do?

I agree scribble, the Hmm is better than the equivalents

I really am Confused at the lack of Confused though. Surely :s is one of the most used emoticons back before the emoji was invented?

PasDeDeux · 25/01/2018 11:29

The OK emoji where the thumb and finger is making a circle gives me the rage.

Timmytoo · 25/01/2018 11:29

That's my favorite to use. I use it all the time to clients and friends. Oh well I do love cheese.

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 25/01/2018 11:29

Other favourite emojis are 😇😘😎🤐🤕😈

Pugsleypugs · 25/01/2018 11:29

😊 is a warm smile

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/01/2018 11:54

🤔looks like judging/sneering/supercilious to me! I don't like it.

I barely use emojis to be honest, unless on MN. A friend send me an angry face one the other day along with a really innocuous message. I haven't figured out why she she was so annoyed. Or maybe she wasn't. How do I post an angry face one so everyone can tell me exactly what my friend meant? Grin

Amanduh · 25/01/2018 11:55

It’s warm contented happiness. 😌 is smug

BedtimeTea · 25/01/2018 12:06

😊 Smug, or happy & contented.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 25/01/2018 12:08

I call it ‘the passive aggression emoji’

liz70 · 25/01/2018 12:13

"I thought you were going to ask about the 🍆, tbh!"

When would anyone have cause to use an aubergine smiley? Confused

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 25/01/2018 12:15

Phallic imagery, Liz........

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 25/01/2018 12:16

🍆💦😅

For example...
🤢🤮

TinselAngel · 25/01/2018 12:18

Isn't this one 🙄 the same as this one Hmm?

liz70 · 25/01/2018 12:19

Ouch! I'd have thought it a bit bent and swollen to be truly phallic, but then I only have experience of one knob (DH's obviously ). Grin

BertieBotts · 25/01/2018 12:25

Yeah it is blissful but defo in a smug way.

I think this is all cultural because emojis started off as Japanese only so a lot of them are based on manga style illustration, and hencehence are harder for westerners to interpret. The smug bliss thing looks smug specifically because it's too kawaii and cutesy. Like there's one which I keep seeing people use for crying or exasperation which is actually meant to be a snoring face with drool or snot which is how they illustrate sleeping. And the giant bead of sweat one is supposed to indicate nervousness

SugarPlumFerry · 25/01/2018 12:31

😊 is a warm smile with genuine smiling eyes to me. I use it a lot because it reminds me of my squinty face. Now you lot think I'm smug 😳
☺ looks like a fake smile to me because the eyes aren't smiling.

I don't really understand most of the emojis on my phone because Samsung emojis are WEIRD and get translated randomly on whatsapp/facebook/mnet etc.

This one? 🤤

SugarPlumFerry · 25/01/2018 12:32

Well fake smile didnt translate well from my phone. It looks cute and happy now! 😡😠

InsomniacAnonymous · 25/01/2018 12:33

It's not smug at all IMO. I agree with the PPs who said "Warm happiness. Contentment and affection."

MrsKoala · 25/01/2018 12:38

Is there a list of what all the emojis mean? I have no idea other than the really obvious smiling ones. Modern life has passed me by.

MissionItsPossible · 25/01/2018 12:38

You know what one confuses me? The one where the mouth is open and the tears are running down the cheeks. Is it meant to be upsetting like I'm sobbing or I'm laughing so hard tears are streaming? I've seen it used for both happy and sad situations.

weedoogie · 25/01/2018 12:42

not emoji related but my stepmother uses lol to mean lots of love; as in
"I was sorry to hear your dog died. lol"

I have told her, but she doesn't believe me...

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/01/2018 12:43

I'm always confused by the square sticking plaster one?

Grin does look a bit psychotic in my mind. Like maniacal laughing.

BertieBotts · 25/01/2018 12:45

YY Sugar that's the drooling/snot one - it's meant to show the person has fallen asleep. But people use it like "I want that food" or in some emoji platforms it looks like a giant single tear so they use it like that.

I think it's just because all of these emotions are exaggerated that they seem false or offputting - like most of the time when you want to put a smile on a post, it's massively overkill for it to express "bliss and satisfied contentment" - and when you're trying to express sadness, it seems OTT to show a picture of a person with streams of water cascading down their face.

YearOfYouRemember · 25/01/2018 12:45

Haven't read all the thread but apparently it means excited.

Lovemusic33 · 25/01/2018 12:53

😊 means ‘I’m going to use this as I don’t know what to say, so have a smile’, I call it my nervous smile.

😂 means ‘laughing so hard I’m crying’
