Why do I find Phillip and Holly so annoying!!

So, just caught the last bit of This Morning and is it just me or have they become really smug lately? Their egos are through the roof and the way they try and find something really funny and burst out laughing is getting a bit tiresome. These hilarious innuendos or slip of the tongues are not set up at all by them or the production team boring. They can never top Fern Britton's 'see you don't mind dunking a bit of beef' gaff, much as they try.

I do prefer Eamonn and Ruth, much more humble and in touch with the viewers.

Am I the only one who feels like this? I am not Fern Britton by the way Grin

I much preferred Richard and Judy. Even with all his twattiness, Richard had a certain charm and yes, Judy was brilliant at the put downs. Judy oozed genuine warmth - I miss seeing her on TV. Holly is just a clothes horse and I can't see how any woman can relate to her - they just want to look like her and buy her clothes.

Trashboat · 24/01/2018 15:37

Is it just a coincidence her (unwarranted) fame soared when she started a relationship with an itv producer 🤔? funny that!

No way would she be where she is now otherwise.

k2p2k2tog · 24/01/2018 15:45

Why do you find them annoying?

Because you have more than one brain cell? They are bland, beige and not very clever. They are the televisual equivalent of Take A Break or other similar magazines. Telly for the hard of thinking.

Flossie4 · 24/01/2018 15:50

Anything full of gushing, egotistical and untalented 'celebs' is a turn off. I cannot bear to watch Phil and Holly. In fact so much TV is full of smug untalented people or twats who play to the camera because 'they are characters'. Holly and Phil have become plastic people. I am listening to radio more and more. Cannot bear morning TV.

TheScottishPlay · 24/01/2018 15:58

Absolutely Flossie. There's lots about.
I can't watch BBC Breakfast when Louise Minchin and Dan Walker are on. They are another smug, untalented pair who reduce everything to total nonsense.
They are knocked into a cocked hat by Charlie, Rachel Burden and Chris Mason when they present and especially the wonderful Steph.

AllButterShortbread · 24/01/2018 16:03

Conclusion to the thread op - you find Phil and Holly annoying because they are annoying.

Battleax · 24/01/2018 16:03

It's impressive, in a way, that they're maintaining any audience in the internet age.

If I have a whole day at home now, I work my way through radio, youtube, Amazon and Netflix as well as online passers and MN. That's a lot of competition for terrestrial TV.

Maybe that's the secret? Some people want the communal experience in an age of splintered media??

Neverender · 24/01/2018 16:03

Eamon and Ruth are even worse!

AllButterShortbread · 24/01/2018 16:13

I think the format makes you believe that something appealing will be along any moment so you keep watching. Forgetting that even if that was true, Phil and Holly would still annoy the tits off you all the way through.

The80sweregreat · 24/01/2018 17:01

Judy Finnagan was professional. They were not perfect but they were way better than these two! ( back when i did tune in now and again in the 90s) the constant ads are a pain. I dont know how people can watch for longer than half hour!

I think HW relies too much on being blonde and therefore being stupid and passing it off as "Oh well I'm a ditzy blonde, it's OK". And then Philip did that advert where he shaved his head for charity. Pffft, it's bloody obvious he didn't.

Battleax · 24/01/2018 17:11

I quite like a bit of mindless TV on a morning once everyone out or at school. I don't mind the content its just the syrupy fawning presenters that spoil it.

Honestly you can find frothy telly or radio that doesn't make you grind your teeth Grin

DameSquashalot · 24/01/2018 17:17

I used to love PS too. It gave me the rage last year when they turned up in their NTA outfits. Such bullshit.

They are really, really annoying. 👺

Quartz2208 · 24/01/2018 17:29

Dancing on Ice would be so much better with other presenters.

Today was just cringeworthy - and he was so over the top with Phil Vickery and eggs.

I really like her!! I can see how you mightn't though. It might be a bit contrived but I like her reactions and laughter and she does seem genuinely fun. I'm not sure about him. I very very rarely see it so mightn't have seen enough of them to get sick of them. I love seeing what she wears and love those silly slots where they make slime or a unicorn cake or whatever. Anytime I watch it it's after coming home from work when I'm wrecked and can't process anything complicated.

val4 · 24/01/2018 17:57

Thought I was only one who can't stand them. I always feel like the plain , boring one looking on at those marvellous, hillarious pair ☹☹ And don't get me started on Holly's suddenly raspy voice after all the hilarity. Much prefer Eamon and Ruth. Much less smug and have warmth between them that is not contrived.

Whisky2014 · 24/01/2018 18:08

I came on to reply "because they are smug!" But I see you got there in your OP! I can't stand them and am equally annoyed when they do the "been out all night coming in to work pished" routine. Meh

Also I think they think they have some kind of relationship which touches on an affair but we all know would never happen. Phil going for the young blond in the office and holly going for the silver fox.
Silver fox...don't think So! Silver Chihuahua more like. And she's just a body with jelly for brains.

Ahhhh that was good.

Sarahh2014 · 24/01/2018 18:17

I quite like them but i caught a clip of the NTA's and saw Tess Daly fake laughing at something and I physically shuddered/cringed.Now she really is annoying

CinderellaRockefeller · 24/01/2018 18:21

I like them. And I follow Holly on Instagram and copy loads of her outfits. Would be gutted if they stopped presenting :)

MissEliza · 24/01/2018 18:22

Richard could be a bit embarrassing but as a pair, they came across as sincere and were as interested in the ordinary guests as the stars. Plus This Morning did a lot of ground breaking stuff for the time. I'm positive PS and HW find the ordinary people stuff boring and prefer the showbiz gossip items.
One particular memory of RM and JF was of a woman who was locked in the house by her husband. Denise Robertson was also there. It was chilling. I do believe the woman eventually left her husband.

NancyDonahue · 24/01/2018 18:28

Oh I love Matt Baker. I cry great heaving sobs when he does the Rickshaw challenge, he's so wonderful with the young people ❤. I don't think he'd lower himself to do DOI.

And lol at Silver Chihuahua. Little dogs irritate me so that's a pretty accurate description Grin

MissionItsPossible · 24/01/2018 18:34

I'm quite old fashioned (31, lol) but with Netflix, Now TV and Amazon (not so much YouTube) I find that there's so much on there that I end up not watching anything! Or falling behind because all the episodes are released at once and my idea of binge watching is two episodes (three at a very big push). I much prefer the rigidity of TV and knowing when something is on and sitting down to watch it. I like being able to go online to discuss the episode ive just watched without coming across spoilers. I realise I'm a weirdo in a small minority. Smile

ItMadeMyEyesWater · 24/01/2018 18:45

I used to like them, but I find them really bloody annoying. They are so up themselves, they must need a shoehorn to prise their heads from up their arse.
