There wouldn't have been anything offensive or libellous in KH's tweet had she have sent it to the person (Laurie Penny) who wrote the goady article the tweet was referencing.

Why should JM have walked away? Too often shitty people in the public eye with shitty opinions aren't challenged or questioned. JM went up in my estimation for publicly taking a stand against KH. Credit where it's due, JM stood up to a bully and that should always be applauded.

If JM had made a stand when KH was posting offensive opinions about refugees or obese people then it'd be different, and we'd all be cheering her on.

I agree, JM was right. Why should she not make it clear the original statement had nothing to do with her? By keeping quiet, she would make it sound like she was in the wrong.

KH could have just apologised, a simple tweet "sorry, I quoted the wrong person". She will still have more than £750k to buy another house after this one! (even after legal costs, stamp duty etc)

I had to look up what had happened, but not only did she tweet about JM when she meant someone else, she apparently deleted that tweet but posted another to ask what the difference was between JM and the other person, Penny someone, and calling Penny an 'irritant' and JM a 'social anthrax'.

So after her mistake, she pushed it further.

I think JM was right to take this to court. It wasn't just a mistake, there was a deliberate insult after making the mistake that implied JM supported something she doesn't, and if JM had ignored it then the mistake wouldn't have been corrected and people could still be thinking that she was responsible for the comments KM attributed to her.
