If you have a coffee machine at home how many cups do you drink a day?

I had a Tassimo for Christmas. My intake of coffee has considerably increased since. I'm not sure that's good.
Does the novelty wear off eventually?

I used to be a big tea drinker but liked an occasional latte. I have hardly drunk tea since Christmas day (although i have tea capsules as well).

4 cups of coffee. Herbal tea after dinner.
I spend about £30 a month on Nespresso capsules.

Elmindarina · 16/01/2018 15:57

Have done this for 3 years btw. No novelty wearing off here

Shhhhhh2018 · 16/01/2018 15:58

We've got a tassimo. I have 2 cups a day atm as I'm pregnant but usually 4ish?

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 16/01/2018 15:59

Maybe 1 or 2 cups a day, some days non-was more when we first got it so I'd say yes the novelty wears off.

LightDrizzle · 16/01/2018 16:00

I’m wondering the same, we got a bean to cup De Longhi last week and I love it, but I’m having at least 4 cups a day. They’re not as big as coffee shop cups, but it’s a lot of caffeine.
I polish it with a microfibre cloth every time I use it - I’m so enamoured.

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2018 16:01

Oh I am not too bad then. I just look at the pile of discarded capsule things and think I have turned into some caffeine fiend, but there are 2 capsules involves for a latte.

DH wasn't sure I was going to use it at all!

I love mine too but feel pretty bad about the waste/plastic..

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2018 16:04

Yes I do too mikado. I haven't looked into recycling the capsules but I would imagine it's a no.

The calories for a Tassimo Costa Latte aren't too bad.

I drink 4 a day from my dolce gusto - so it costs me about £30 a month. Plus Dh has maybe 2 a day, more at weekends, plus visitors. I am totally addicted to it. I shudder at the thought of the plastic and considering how hard we try in other areas to reduce our consumption, it really pains me that we use so many pods. I sort of hope our DG will break so I can get an espresso pump machine that uses ground coffee.

Unfortunately, the pods have killed instant coffee for me, I cannot abide the smell or taste of it anymore.

Redglitter · 16/01/2018 16:06

I'm onto my second Tassimo and the novelty hasn't worn off. The Bailey's Lattes aren't helping me cut back that's for sure

PinkHeart5914 · 16/01/2018 16:07

I love my coffee so the novelty has never worn off for me, and dh is just as bad.

I reckon I have about 8 cups a day

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2018 16:07

I quite like the Cadburys Hot chocolate too. DS2 likes the Oreo one but I am not a fan.

I haven't sussed out the best way to buy the capsules yet. Seems confusing.

Lots but I’m on decaf! It has made such a difference to drinking a lot of caffeine. I’d got past the point where I would get the shakes which I took to mean as a bad thing lol!

I spend about £50 pm on capsules (no milk ones) and do also sometimes use instant also

lookingforthecorkscrew · 16/01/2018 16:10

I gave my Tassimo away because it was eating my money every month. Now I buy a box of decaf teabags every month or so, and have an occasional Horlicks. I’m like a caffeine monk or something. I do feel better though.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 16/01/2018 16:10

We have a Tassimo machine and used it daily for years and years. I don't know why but now it's languishing at the back of the cupboard and dh makes his coffee using a dripper thing with filter paper.

I think you can recycle the pods iirc but have to send them off or take them to a special centre to do so.

Shhhhhh2018 · 16/01/2018 16:11

@Sparklingbrook you can recycle them in certain locations! Have a look on the tassimo website

I have an aeropress and make 2-3 a day. All the coffee grounds go into my tumbling composter.

Skinnydecafflatte · 16/01/2018 16:17

There’s Bailey’s lattes????
I it one for Christmas and usually have just one a day and think of it as a treat to myself. I don’t want to get used to it as such as I want to enjoy them.
As an aside where do you all buy yours from? Is there a cheap place?

mishfish · 16/01/2018 16:18

I had to eventually put mine away as I was drinking so much coffee Blush

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2018 16:21

Thanks for the recycling tips I will have a look.

I also wonder where the best place to buy the capsules is.

I have even got the takeaway cups with lids, so I can take coffee with me in the car.Blush It has to stay in the car mind, I can't be doing with wandering about coffee drinking.

This is the website that has all the recycling drop off points. We keep ours until we have (A LOT!) enough to drop off, usually when going past one when already going somewhere else, so no wasteful trips to negate the recycling. Collecting them all up really showed me just how many were being used! Makes me feel terrible about the effect on the environment so recycling them helps me feel slightly less guilty, although we don't use as many as we used to as have so many other ways to make espressos etc as well.

I find using the Tassimo website is good for getting the pods, much more choice there than in shops, but will only use when special offers are on - free delivery, free packs etc. Make sure you register your new machine on their site and you will get 2 x £10 vouchers to use in there.

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2018 16:36

No recycling locally, but the nearest place is somewhere I go once or twice a month so that's great. Although I will have to watch the pile grow. Blush

Thanks for the tips.

Yes sparkling, had mine nearly 2 years and consumption has decreased exponentially!!
Still love my lattes though 😂

MadamMinacious · 16/01/2018 16:40

I have an espresso machine and an electric grinder (get me Hmm ) we've had it for years. I tend to actually drink espresso from it as I love them but not too many of them a day or I'd be bouncing around the place. I think it is one of the very best (and most used) things we have bought.
