If you have a coffee machine at home how many cups do you drink a day?

I had a Tassimo for Christmas. My intake of coffee has considerably increased since. I'm not sure that's good.
Does the novelty wear off eventually?

I used to be a big tea drinker but liked an occasional latte. I have hardly drunk tea since Christmas day (although i have tea capsules as well).

I don't think DH being a coffee hater could put up with the smell of coffee the whole time, but I will ask him to bear it in mind when he buys me another.
But as I have only had this one since 25/12 then I think that's a way off.

I don't mind instant though, so i don't think I will be falling down any coffee slopes.

PumpkinPiloter you've got me googling coffee grinders. I might have to have a check on eBay. Smile

Travel cups: I have the one that Waitrose sell as a reusable cup for their free coffee. Much nicer to use than any other I’ve tried. It’s got a hole to drink out of, basically just like the throw away cups, so you need to keep it upright. And I don’t think it would keep your drink warmer for any longer than a normal mug. But it’s good enough.

Bean to cup machine: literally put beans in the top, press the button and espresso come out. You top up the water and descale it. Ours has a steamer nozzle for lattes etc.

IthinkImislaid10years Let me know if I can be of help. I am by no means an expert but have a reasonable knowledge of machines especially at the lower end of the market.

alwaysme22 · 17/01/2018 15:29

Does anyone know the answer?
I decided to buy a Delonghi Caffe Corsa bean to cup machine. The beans I use are the same as I used for filter coffee (Lazy Sunday) which I really like. But the coffee comes out really bitter, not nice at all :( Is it the machine or me, maybe I have it adjusted all wrong?

So, for now it's back to the Nespresso.

Pumperthepumper · 17/01/2018 15:29

Pumpkin totally agree about the grinder, it makes a huge difference - I don’t do it every time so I’ve got a jar of beans and a jar of ground coffee on the go at once, for busy mornings - but I just love (sorry, going to sound like a total wanker now) the ritual of making coffee with beans

I have a proper coffee machine, not one of those cheap awful capsule type ones. Grin

I tend to have 2/3 espressos a day.

alwaysme22 · 17/01/2018 16:40

Hi zzzzz, thanks I will try your suggestions.

On the old grounds taste though, it is a brand new machine and it was like it from the first cup. Thinking about it though, I seem to recall in the instructions that all machines are tested so there could possibly be old coffee grounds in machine. Will give it good rinse!

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2018 16:55

Yeah thanks for casting shade on my lovely gift bridgetoc. Will tell DH he has bought me something cheap and awful when he gets in. He'll be thrilled.

LightDrizzle I got DH a De'Longhi Bean to Cup for Christmas. It makes great coffee. We both drink black. Seriously impressed with it.

MongerTruffle · 17/01/2018 17:05

If you have a Tassimo machine, please make sure you recycle the pods if you can, everyone.

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2018 17:09

We covered that comprehensively upthread Monger, I have found one somewhere that I go once or twice a month so can drop them off.

We have bought three Tassimo Vivy's, one is in the kitchen and is in use most days, the others were bought for my partner who works on two sites so has one in both offices. Pods are bought from Costco.

For all you worried about the plastic, just buy a cafetière and make coffee that way. Or upgrade to a proper coffee machine that uses beans.

These pod machines are terrible, really

Sparklingbrook · 18/01/2018 18:45

Have you read the thread Flouncy, we have been over it all. Grin

The pod machines are awful and cheap and now terrible apparently.

I don't want one that uses beans ( I may have already said that). Grin I like my Tassimo. Smile

We have Tassimo at work and Nespresso at home, Tassimo pods go to a local drop-off point and Nespresso via Collect+ at the nearest corner shop. I normally have about one a day from home in my thermal mug, either to take to work or when standing watching DCs do sports, I rarely drink it at home though. Have the odd Tassimo at work but I use Americano plus microwaved fresh milk as I'm not keen on the creamer pod stuff.
