Just that really... I've made a complaint about this image. It was served to me as a Facebook advert and it just really got to me.

I agree about the terrible photoshopping of the wrists. Why are they photoshopping their thickness at all?

They are photoshopping all of the body. The whole thing, every bit of them. Including colours a lot of the time. They are not the only ones at it but they are really bad at it - that's why the wrists are fucked up. They are lazy.

Stuff on a white background is easy but they manage to make a mess of that anyway. Stuff like the bow-legged broken Barbie doll above is more challenging - her wrist is probably so freaky because the line of the railing was wobbling after they did her legs and waist, and so they straightened it and just ignored the hand. Because they are lazy and crap at their job.

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 11/01/2018 23:58

Her thighs look slightly off too, Tony

StanleyMouse · 12/01/2018 00:01

How would it be received, I wonder, if I started a post saying 'this model is too fat'? I'd be shot down!

Yes, I get it's frustrating that the model doesn't reflect your own, exact size but she reflects mine. I am absolutely so fucking tired of people calling me a 'skinny cow', telling me I'm 'lucky' etc etc because I'm not the same size as them.

I would never, ever comment on someone else's weight but slim people are seen as fair game? As PP have said - and it is a constant argument - people have lost sight of what normal is.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 12/01/2018 00:08

You actually just have to laugh GrinGrinGrin

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 12/01/2018 00:09

The red one is obviously freakier but the spotty one is just so so shoddy at the thighs/wrist.

Dozyoldtwonk · 12/01/2018 00:13

Spotty wrists are two totally different shapes…Grin and the thighs! Bad, bad job Confused

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 12/01/2018 00:14

Everyone who feels these models really reflect them - I am so sorry. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to have limbs like Slenderman and a thigh gap that's twice as wide as your hand. I'm so glad Boden caters to you.

PuddleOfInk · 12/01/2018 00:22

Yes but ALL models reflect your size. That is the point!

StanleyMouse · 12/01/2018 00:40

No puddle they don't.
My point was rather that it's seem ok to complain about 'skinny' people but completely unacceptable to complain that someone is too 'fat'.
2/3 if the UK population are overweight. It's a growing problem but instead of addressing it people just want bigger models and vanity sizing.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 12/01/2018 00:51

If you think these models are "skinny" you're not looking hard enough. They are (poorly) photoshopped beyond human recognition. They do not resemble real women - they do not resemble you. They resemble broken Barbie dolls, and it is simultaneously hilarious and incredibly fucked up.

This isn't old images. This is Boden's new holiday collection, they just commissioned it and they have given it it's own special spot on the website for everyone getting desperate for some winter sun. This is what Boden thinks middle class British women want in 2018.

What hope is there for teenage girls getting to grips with media manipulation, when grown women are shown dozens of warped photoshoppings and start blinding praising them for fighting obesity. You have got to be kidding me.

PuddleOfInk · 12/01/2018 01:05

Absolute nonsense, this whole thread is people whinging about fat people.

PuddleOfInk · 12/01/2018 01:06

It would be nice to see a size ten model. It doesn't just go either size 6-8 or unhealthily overweight you know!!

PuddleOfInk · 12/01/2018 01:06

Totally agree tony.

user764329056 · 12/01/2018 01:20

Well said Tony, it’s bloody irresponsible

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 12/01/2018 02:50

I really like the turn in direction this thread is taking.

I am sick and tired of hearing about the normalisation of obesity, as if it's the only problem there is. I fully acknowledge that what Joe and Jo Public think of as overweight will reflect changing public demographics.

But at one and the same time, we do still have a huge problem with unrealistic body imagery. What percentage of healthy young women with a BMI under 22 (I've picked this figure because it is unquestionably nowhere near overweight) do you think feel genuinely happy with their bodies? I bet it's very low.

We are not going to "fight obesity" because clothing retailers normalise thigh gaps and photoshop inches off already slim models. Clothes retailers are not performing a public service when they photoshop!

SeaWitchly · 12/01/2018 06:53

I'd like to see how the dresses looked on more size 12/14 models. I always think the dresses won't look good on me even though I'm a normal size.

I agree OP.

Particularly as Boden's demographic are middle class Mums... who are generally going to be in their 30s/40s and above... and a lot are going to be a size 12 and above with a few lumps, bumps and curves.

Looking at a dress on a very tall, very slim 20 year old does not inspire me to buy. I would prefer to see the clothes on someone attractive sure but otherwise around my age and body type... then if it looks good on her I would consider buying it for myself.

Why can't Boden [and other brands aimed at older women] think outside the box and perhaps use models [or fashion bloggers or their own staff for that matter!] to model their clothes and show how they look and could be worn by the average woman juggling work, childcare and a social life.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 12/01/2018 07:03

They look like normal ladies to me?

Tinycitrus · 12/01/2018 07:16

Clothes look better on thin models.

Twoo · 12/01/2018 07:32

This was my natural body shape before disability wreaked it’s havoc. I was not eating disorded either.

papayasareyum · 12/01/2018 07:38

all those images look severely underweight and unwell. If this sort of image is going to help us fight obesity god help us women

Shadowboy · 12/01/2018 07:41

I think she looks pretty normal. She looks healthy to me. I can’t see the problem?

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 12/01/2018 07:45

This is nobody’s natural body shape. If this were your natural body shape, you would be unable to walk.

Why did Boden warp this very pretty young woman’s crotch? Why do they think it’s acceptable to do this to sell bikinis?

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 12/01/2018 07:49

I still think she looks ok, her thighs are separated as she is abducting her hips-legs apart.

LadyBunnysWig · 12/01/2018 07:50

The model looks great and I wouldn't say she looks ill at all. Just would like a fairer representation of sizes of women.

So why have you chosen to body shame and report this one woman? Mock her picture online because you don't like her body?

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2018 08:09

The photoshop is incredibly bad, all bendy and wavy with an over zealous reduction of wrists

But the initial image linked isn’t too thin and not many would focus on the wrists so most are saying she looks normal
