Just that really... I've made a complaint about this image. It was served to me as a Facebook advert and it just really got to me.

I don't think obesity is seen as normal at all.

It isn't. People on this thread seem to think you're either thin or obese.

DecoysBitch · 11/01/2018 22:32

Of course it's seen as normal. Look about you when you go out.

en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/norm.

PuddleOfInk · 11/01/2018 22:43

Er, I don't see obese people everywhere. I see people of all shapes and sizes.

I can only think of one family member of mine who is obese, and none of my friends are either.

LouiseBrooks · 11/01/2018 22:45

I've been shopping at Boden for years and have noticed that their models have definitely got thinner in the last few years. Some of them seem to have a very young look and some are definitely on the thin side, i.e. size 6 and 5ft 10, which is a lot skinnier than the norm. I've also noticed IRL that there are both a lot more very skinny and very fat people than 30 or 40 years ago.

I think the first girl looks very slim but healthy, second one looks a bit odd but it may be her pose and photocopying.

LemonysSnicket · 11/01/2018 22:46

She looks normal .. just tall.

PuddleOfInk · 11/01/2018 22:47

In any case saying this woman is too thin in no way indicates that "obesity" is now the norm.

Bluemugajug · 11/01/2018 22:47

I’m probably just as slim if not slimmer than that model.

Perfectly healthy thank you OP

LemonysSnicket · 11/01/2018 22:48

The wrist ones are really weird though

LemonysSnicket · 11/01/2018 22:50

@Howsthings1234 I do wish more heights were used everywhere.

I’m 5’4 and if it hits their knee it practically hits my ankle. And it makes me feel bad - I can lose as much weight as I like but my calves and torso will never ever be that shape because I’m not 5’10.

I’ve suffered from an ED in the past, and it was always the height, not the weight that effected me most.

RunningOutOfCharge · 11/01/2018 22:50

No problem don't think obesity has become 'normal' but 'size 14' is now the average size of UK women

I'm 6 foot tall and being size 14 is still overweight for me

LemonysSnicket · 11/01/2018 22:52

Oh and to PP the models are 4-8, I don’t see any of them being a 10.

Passthecake30 · 11/01/2018 22:54

I would look like that in that shapeless dress and high heels. I'm not thin, just tall with slim limbs,

babigailwabble · 11/01/2018 22:57

she's normal/healthy. it's actually not normal/how we were designed to be waddling around with our fat rubbing.

Dozyoldtwonk · 11/01/2018 23:06

To be fair, Boden are using slightly bigger models also:

m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/clearance/womens-dresses/day-dresses/j0037-pnt/womens-charcoal-spot-flocked-spot-sweatshirt-dress

I’m slim and I’m sick to death of being told I’m unhealthy/jovially told I’m ‘tiny’ and be expcected to just laugh it off. If I said the same or equivalent to an overweight person (not that I would), it wouldn’t be at all acceptable.

That said, a little more variety in models heights AND clothing size wouldn’t go amiss. But I agree with a pp; thin(er) models sell clothes. They just do.

PuddleOfInk · 11/01/2018 23:13

it's actually not normal/how we were designed to be waddling around with our fat rubbing.

Someone slightly bigger than this woman, say a size 10, would not have that.

My thighs have always rubbed together, it's just my shape. I am 5ft2 and 8st7.

helpneeded12 · 11/01/2018 23:24

I've also noticed IRL that there are both a lot more very skinny and very fat people than 30 or 40 years ago.

Yes I’ve noticed this too.

DecoysBitch · 11/01/2018 23:26

I've been asked by a group of women (bar one) do you eat?" Erm yes otherwise I wouldn't be alive - at 5ft 6 and nine stone, it's all got so warped.

WorraLiberty · 11/01/2018 23:30

I can only think of one family member of mine who is obese, and none of my friends are either.

But that's neither here nor there.

Over 63% of UK adults are overweight or obese.

UrgentScurryfunge · 11/01/2018 23:31

I can tell quite obviously from the fit on the model that on my 5ft 2, size 8-10 frame the dress would have that frumpy "just grown out of it" look Grin

I'll never find my body shape represented by a model. For a garment to look good would make it too short for the majority. That doesn't mean my size is shamed.

The models look tall, slim and healthy, not overly thin/ gaunt.

starzig · 11/01/2018 23:40

Not this again. Quit with the too fat, too thin labels. I see a plain smiling woman.

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 11/01/2018 23:42

I agree about the terrible photoshopping of the wrists. Why are they photoshopping their thickness at all?

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 11/01/2018 23:45

I honestly can’t stop laughing at this.

Anybody who thinks this is a lovely healthy sized woman is an idiot who is ignorant about the scourge that is rickets.

Is everyone blind or are some people just that desperate for a humblebrag about how hard it is to be skinny? (You’re not fooling me, I am also skinny and it’s fucking great #humblebrag)

Backingvocals · 11/01/2018 23:47

Grin Tony

I am not skinny but I know a sadly withered limb when I see one Grin

starzig · 11/01/2018 23:48

In reality 2 scenarios: 1) dress on a skinny model and sizes 8-16. 2) plus size dress on a plus size model sizes 16-24. You need a 16, which do you buy (be honest) lol

helpneeded12 · 11/01/2018 23:48

Also people listing their weight & height is irrelevant, you could have 10 models who are 5ft9 & 9 stone & they will all look different.
