Just that really... I've made a complaint about this image. It was served to me as a Facebook advert and it just really got to me.

I don't see the photo shop. I just don't see it. I see that wrist on one image looks slender because of perspective and a thigh gap which is pronounced because the model's legs are open.
The 'photo shopping' concern is a red herring. These women are being body shamed and mocked.
Boden sizes only go down to a 6. None of the models are smaller than a size 6.
Get a grip.

RunningOutOfCharge · 12/01/2018 08:40

Odd camera angles and weird poses

People like to see issues where there are non..... wonder why?

trippingup · 12/01/2018 08:49

Thanks again for all of your comments. I perhaps was being a bit harsh on Boden.

For the record i'm a size 10. I just feel there is a lot of pressure in the media to be thin - but of course Boden need to sell their clothes and rightly like many of you have said they don't want to use someone frumpy! Andy yes I was criticizing the advert and not the model (she is a beautiful woman).

For the record i'm a size 10 and 5ft 6. Just think it would be good to see a wider range of models used in media and clothing brochures.

Do you disagree that there should be a range of shapes and sizes of models, or that it is quite acceptable to only have size 6-8 women doing it?

Genuinely out of interest but what is classed as frumpy?!

WorraLiberty · 12/01/2018 09:22

OP if you're a size 10 and 5ft 6", I'm a bit confused about your earlier post? Confused

Thanks everyone. Appreciate your feedback! Perhaps I'm being overly critical as my new year diet hasn't started yet.

I'd like to see how the dresses looked on more size 12/14 models. I always think the dresses won't look good on me even though I'm a normal size.

zeezeek · 12/01/2018 09:37

there should be a range of shapes and sizes of models

This

Whilst clothes may look good on the tall and slim, in reality the people wearing those clothes will be a whole range of sizes and shapes. Boden sizes range from 6-22. If they were only showing their clothes on size 22 models then that would be unfair as well. All people are asking for is to see what a dress looks like on a size 10, 16 or 20 as well. I'm sure that if Boden did that they would actually sell many more clothes.

The whole fat/thin shaming is getting tedious as well. I'm fat. 20 years ago I was very thin. There are genuine reasons why I was/am at either end of the spectrum. I have also been in the middle. I am like many, many women on MN and in the world. Currently I am a size 22 because I ate too much over Christmas, I'm struggling with my breathing due to my asthma playing up and I can't move so much. None of that means that I should not be allowed to buy nice clothes. To hear some people you would think that women over a size 10 should go around in shapeless tents. Well no. I already feel crap about my weight so why shouldn't I try and make the best of what I've got whilst trying to lose some of it?

DecoysBitch · 12/01/2018 09:55

I was wondering about that too Worra 🤔.

SandyBabyToes · 12/01/2018 10:16

I'm not saying skinny shaming doesn't exist but being thin is glorified and the media worship that sort of shape. Being of a more average weight or even overweight is not.

I say this as a slim person. People aspire to be thin. People want to look thinner. No one wants to look fatter than they already are (unless of course you have an issue where you can't put on weight etc).

So in a way, I'm saying skinny shaming doesn't exist but not on any sort of equal measure by any stretch of the imagination

LouiseBrooks · 12/01/2018 12:48

Online the Boden size charts show size 6 as being up to 25 inch waist. Their children's size chart shows an 11/12 year old as being up to a 26 inch waist.

Interestingly women used to have smaller waists than they seem to now but nonetheless l know almost no adults (apart from one tiny colleague - and I mean her height too) who are the same size as pre teen children and I know many fairly slender people.

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 12/01/2018 13:22

Louise Women used to wear structured shapewear, rather than relying on diet to achieve their waists. Girdles, garter belts and so on.

BitchQueen90 · 12/01/2018 14:05

I can tell you now that for younger women thin is no longer the trend. Curvy bodies such as the Kardashians are glorified these days, not being thin. Why do you think there is such a surge in women doing weightlifting?

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/01/2018 14:13

The trend is still to be thin...but with curves too rather than Kate Moss circa the early 90’s. There was a thread the other week discussing how the current trend for having a toned bubble bum, boobs, washboard flat abs, toned arms etc is no more attainable for most than the waif look was then.

PuddleOfInk · 12/01/2018 14:14

I can tell you now that for younger women thin is no longer the trend.

As a younger woman myself, I do not agree.

I agree there is a trend for a gym honed physique, but that is still thin. Look at Kayla Itsines.

BitchQueen90 · 12/01/2018 14:18

Kayla Itsines actually wrote a post about how she gets skinny shamed. People tell her she needs to "train legs" etc. Of course there are still people who aspire to her figure but I'm seeing it a lot less these days.

BitchQueen90 · 12/01/2018 14:21

Although, washboard abs and tiny waists are always in style. It's just another unattainable trend.

I'll always have a belly full of stretch marks no matter what my weight. Gave up being arsed about it a long time ago Grin

SandyBabyToes · 12/01/2018 14:30

I'm 20 and I agree. Big thighs, and big bums are very in. It's called being 'thick' apparently Smile

DecoysBitch · 12/01/2018 14:45

But not big tums.

Waist to hip ratio is what that's all about.

But this thread isn't really about the most fertile looking female shape, it's about Boden's slim but normal looking model being complained about.

SandyBabyToes · 12/01/2018 14:53

Decoys You can be very overweight and have all of that weight in your thighs and bottom instead of your tummy

DecoysBitch · 12/01/2018 15:21

I know Sandy, very slim people can have their fat stored that way too. Just thought the argument was getting a tad derailed.

BattleCuntGalactica · 13/01/2018 05:34

You've made the Daily Fail :(

AlmostAJillSandwich · 13/01/2018 06:01

It would be nice if clothing retailers had photos of their clothing on multiple body types. something that hangs well on someone slim might not hang well on someone larger, or it might look good on an average to large bust but not on a small bust, etc.

WorraLiberty · 13/01/2018 09:06

Mail Online has contacted Boden for further comment.

It would be interesting to hear their comment, especially if/when they find out the OP's reason for the complaint in the first place.

Backingvocals · 13/01/2018 09:09

I’d love to see their originals of the withered arms and expanded crotch photos 😁

What do you say Johnny? Want to show us how responsible you are with photoshop?

LadyBunnysWig · 13/01/2018 10:09

What's disgusting that the this poor woman (the model) took a job to model a rather modest looking dress, probably feeling quite nice about herself and she is having her weight analysed and random people on the Internet calling for her to be fired from her job because they don't agree with her body.
Nasty women. If want to see what clothes would look like on someone with your figure, get off the fucking Internet and go try them on!! I suppose her hair is also too dark and it's not fair on blonde people as they can't see if the dress would compliment their hair colour? Or the fact she is tall isn't fair because a short person can't see where the dress will come down to on them? Yes a wider range of diverse body shapes and sizes would be nice, but targeting this woman is unfair and unjustified.
