Just that really... I've made a complaint about this image. It was served to me as a Facebook advert and it just really got to me.

A complaint? Why? She looks LIKE A MODEL. I think she looks fantastic, and no thinner than models from catalogues from 30 years ago. I hate skinny-shaming.

StandardRussian66 · 11/01/2018 15:11

Wow yabu. She’s just a normal woman!!

Blackteadrinker77 · 11/01/2018 15:11

She looks the same size as me. UK6, I'm very fit and healthy.

The problem is we have forgotten what normal looks like.

Bluntness100 · 11/01/2018 15:11

our idea of a normal healthy body has got so warped because we're used to overweight being normal.. They look fine. Slim and healthy. Can't believe you'd complain about that

Agree. There was someone posted the same thing about perfectly healthy looking jack wills models the other day. It's like slim has now become totally alien to some people and they think it looks wrong.

StripySocksAndDocs · 11/01/2018 15:11

This is the picture I was seeing yrhengi. No bag!!!

But I've just discovered there's more pictures!!!

Backingvocals · 11/01/2018 15:12

Can you see if you swipe bluntness?

I do think Boden are bad for this. Their photoshopping is terrible and basically all aimed at shaving off body inches. DCs and I play the game of spotting the unnatural frame every time the catalogue comes out.

etap · 11/01/2018 15:12

We are all seeing the same image right? Lady in a pink dress with a navy bag? What on earth is wrong with it?

If you've felt the need to complain that this other human exists and is advertising a company's product that clearly suits and fits her, then the issue is with your perception not theirs.

DixieFlatline · 11/01/2018 15:13

In the pics I can see their wrists are no slimmer than mine, and I'm a lot bigger around the hips and waist than them currently... some people have tiny hands and wrists. Confused

I do think they look like they have no arm muscles whatsoever though. I wouldn't want to be them and try to walk home with some shopping.

trippingup · 11/01/2018 15:14

Thanks everyone. Appreciate your feedback! Perhaps I'm being overly critical as my new year diet hasn't started yet.

I'd like to see how the dresses looked on more size 12/14 models. I always think the dresses won't look good on me even though I'm a normal size.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 11/01/2018 15:14

YABU, she just looks tall and slim.

Ohyesiam · 11/01/2018 15:15

stripey I had to swipe left after clicking the link to get the image of the model with the bag that someone else mentioned. The bad is under her arm making her waist look a bit Disney princess.
I'm apple shaped so totally different to any model, Boden or otherwise. I'm quite good at knowing if clothes will suit me even if pictured on a thin model .A friend stopped getting Boden catalogues as " all the models are tall and thin , so their clothes will never suit me ", she's actual small and thin, but can't visualise it. Their loss.

Given their target demographic, it is surprising they don't use models with a bit more curve, even occasionally.

MrsPestilence · 11/01/2018 15:15

backing this is dodgy photoshop. The models are tall and slim, not underweight.

trippingup · 11/01/2018 15:16

Also I agree the bag position doesn't help.

The model looks great and I wouldn't say she looks ill at all. Just would like a fairer representation of sizes of women.

OP posts:
MaudlinMews · 11/01/2018 15:17

I think she looks great, as do the other models. She's certainly slim but she has a fair bust. I think she just has very slim arms (unless they've been photoshoped) but her neck, legs, waist etc. all look normal.

MrsPestilence · 11/01/2018 15:18

Size twelve to fourteen models would be great.

TheFairyCaravan · 11/01/2018 15:18

I’m sick to the back teeth of people bleating on about other women being too thin yet anyone dare mention someone is a bit fat and the Internet implodes.

I’ve always been thin, have tiny arms, incredibly skinny legs and very small fingers. Some of us are just like that.

Purple567895678956789 · 11/01/2018 15:19

Omg really?! I cannot believe people would actually complain about this Confused

People smaller than size 12/14 are also normal. So you're a size 12/14 woman going after Boden with a complaint because you're angry you're not a size 8 and the model doesn't look like you? I would be too embarrassed to write a complaint about this - seriously. So idiotic. I think the model looks great and healthy.

I'm about the same size - I don't care what size other women are. I worry about being healthy. Grow up OP.

OuchBollocks · 11/01/2018 15:21

They won't use bigger models because the accepted wisdom is that clothes look best on tall slim women, and boden sees itself as an aspirational brand. They want well off 'yummy mummy' types to shop with them, and in general well off yummy mummy types are slim. (I am not slim). Anyway those clothes are shockingly badly styled.

Backingvocals · 11/01/2018 15:25

That’s what I’m saying. V bad photoshop.

And it is insidious

lubeybooby · 11/01/2018 15:26

I think she looks lovely and healthy. Slim, not too slim though. Probably a bmi of 20 ish

I think so many people are overweight and obese now that some have lost sight of what healthy looks like. I say this an obese person myself

HopefulForToday · 11/01/2018 15:26

I'm another that can't actually believe you would complain about that image op. I was expecting to see an awful image with jutting collar bones and ribs...that's just a normal, slim woman and not too skinny at all.

In most cases, someone who's a size 14 is overweight, even if only slightly. Personally, no, I don't think we should make images of overweight models 'the norm' in catalogues. I'd much rather see women who appear a healthy weight, such as in the picture you posted.

MarshaBradyo · 11/01/2018 15:26

She looks normal

letsdothisoneanon · 11/01/2018 15:28

I think YABU to complain about her being too thin but not to complain that there should be some variety in size/shapes of models used.

For those arguing that they should use size 12/14 that doesn't really solve the issue as they would still only be showing one type of woman. Probably also unusually tall to make them seem as slim as possible for that size.

I would think some taller models as well as shorter ones and a variety of shapes and sizes would work best. Obviously this is a big ask for each individual item but I think if the entire online catalogue was more varied more women would appreciate it.

I'm naturally thin and find it offensive when people essentially body shame other women for being thin. It's no longer acceptable to complain that women are "too fat", the same should be true for thin women.

Clandestino · 11/01/2018 15:28

I look thinner. Hope you don't want to complain to my parents about my existence.
BVU.

Blackteadrinker77 · 11/01/2018 15:28

Most size 14s are over weight.
