For a start, surely Oprah Winfrey, apparently the 'most powerful woman in Hollywood', must have fully known about the sexual harassment that was happening. As would all of them. I can see why more recent stars wouldn't have wanted to rock the boat by speaking out, but why all the self congratulation on the part of established figures, who could easily have spoken out long before now? It was all like 'hey, check us out, we're so brave'. No you're not, you're a bunch of hypocrites.

Swingingsixties, really??

Have you got a quote from Mark Wahlberg (a violent bigot) saying he’d waive his fee and give up his time so they could reshoot scenes without abuser Kevin Spacey?

swingingSixties · 10/01/2018 13:14

What part of Williams turning down payment confuses you? I quoted her. It was a fairly short and easily-read few sentences.

Once more, "they could have my salary, they could have my holiday, whatever they wanted. Because I appreciated so much that they were making a massive effort."

This is not an example of sexism.

Feel free to use disablist slurs if that makes you feel better.

Bimbler · 10/01/2018 13:15

And it's worth noting that Williams thought they were all doing the re-shoots for free. She didn't know Wahlberg was being given a massive extra wedge of cash. I wonder why they tried to keep it so secret...

swingingSixties · 10/01/2018 13:17

I have no idea what you're talking about but no, he didn't waive his fee. Williams did. I can't for the life of me understand how after she waived her fee anyone can complain she was paid less than some man who didn't.

Plantlover · 10/01/2018 13:17

Bimbler

How do you know Michelle Williams thought they were ALL doing it for free?

I've not read that anywhere?

swingingSixties · 10/01/2018 13:17

"I wonder why they tried to keep it so secret..."

Basic business sense which it appears she doesn't have. This is not an example of sexism.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 10/01/2018 13:18

Crown court listings are really patchy and don't show everything for verdicts. Some just don't submit the info.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 10/01/2018 13:18

Wrong thread, sorry.

Bimbler · 10/01/2018 13:18

This is not an example of sexism.

Yes it is and your posts where you try to claim otherwise sadly just make you look foolish.

Bimbler · 10/01/2018 13:20

'Director Ridley Scott reshot much of the film, which recounts the kidnapping of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty’s grandson, after actor Kevin Spacey (Getty) was accused of sexual assault. Christopher Plummer replaced Spacey in the reshoot.

When asked about the reshoot costs in December, Scott told USA Today that they were “not as expensive as you think” because “everyone did it for nothing.”

“They all came in free,” Scott said. “Christopher had to get paid. But Michelle, no. Me, no. I wouldn’t do that.”'

ElizabethLemon · 10/01/2018 13:21

No he didn’t waive his fee, that was my point 😒.

WitchesHatRim · 10/01/2018 13:22

There is also a picture of kirk douglas with a woman (idk who) in a black dress slashed to her waist with her boobs on show cluching his hand

His daughter in law. Catherine Zeta Jones.

Shadow666 · 10/01/2018 13:24

So, basically Mark Wahlberg was a dick and held the film producers to ransom? It doesnt surprise me.

swingingSixties · 10/01/2018 13:27

Bimbler

How? Perhaps he was a dick holding the film to ransom but that doesn't make it sexism.

numbereightyone · 10/01/2018 13:30

Do you really not understand Swinging? Of course it's sexism. There is a huge wage disparity between a male and female actor on a particular film. It's so simple I am embarrassed for you that you cannot grasp it.

swingingSixties · 10/01/2018 13:33

numbereightyone

No, I really don't.

The disparity was in post-film negotiations for re-shooting some scenes. Williams offered to fucking do it for fucking free for fucks sake. She fucking offered. SHE offered he didn't. D'ya get it now?.

Don't be embarrassed for me.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 10/01/2018 13:34

The vast majority of Hollywood (male and female)is shallow and vacuous. They are also hypocrites - I'm looking at you Meryl Streep and your support for Roman Polanski, the rapist.

numbereightyone · 10/01/2018 13:34

I am very embarrassed for you swinging.

swingingSixties · 10/01/2018 13:36

Don't be embarrassed. Be smarter.

lolaflores · 10/01/2018 13:37

One, tiny little effort at bucking the system does not compare to a considered and ongoing, collective resistance to a system that is rotten to the core and inherently weighted against women.
That is why their black dresses are being dismissed as too little, too late and not really putting them out of the comfort zone

Shadow666 · 10/01/2018 13:38

The point is that Michelle Williams could have been a dick and demanded money for reshoots and Mark Wahlberg coukd have offered to do it for free. It was down to their personalities not their sex. Michelle Williams is a better person and better actress. Marky Mark is an asshole of the highest degree.

numbereightyone · 10/01/2018 13:41

I think I am 'smart' enough swinging but thanks for your advice.

DearShirt · 10/01/2018 13:44

Actually I see swinging's point here.

The reason for the wage disparity for the reshoot is that MW waived her fee and Marky Twat didn't. So the disparity here is due to twatness rather than sexism in this particular case

Bimbler · 10/01/2018 13:47

But only an inherently sexist industry could produce a situation where the male star asks for and is given 1000% more than his female co-star and only the same sexist industry would have the (male) director claiming in an interview that everyone did the re-shoots for free.

Seems clearly sexist to me.

swingingSixties · 10/01/2018 13:53

Bimbler

She said she didn't want any money for it. It wasn't about the two of them demanding money and him getting much more than her.

As shirt said, it's about twatness not the gender of the actor and actress.
