To think Oprah being the potus would be amazing

Female, black and lesbian would restore my faith in the world. Trump's supporters would hate that and she seems far more suited than him. She would walk it right?

fatso I totally agree with you regarding Oprah. Her popularity has tanked since her show ended. People eventually saw through her and women in her target group today are working, not stuck at home while their DC are at school with nothing to do.

SenecaFalls · 09/01/2018 01:33

I also like Cory Booker. Educated partly in the UK, by the way.

Battleax · 09/01/2018 01:36

I think the presidency needs its credibility restored after this car crash. Professional politicians, that kind of thing.

LordBuckley · 09/01/2018 02:03

Oprah's speech was excellent, and she's an intelligent woman.

I rather fancy Michelle Obama for President and Oprah for VP.
That'd put a few cats among the pigeons.

ethelfleda · 09/01/2018 03:25

I think a camel would make a good president after a term of Trump so in that sense, YANBU.

Actually, the next POTUS will be lucky in that regard as they will be celebrated much more than usual because of their predecessor.

kmc1111 · 09/01/2018 03:39

It's like no one actually remembers her show. Whenever she wasn't interviewing celebrities or giving away cars, she was shilling pseudo-science crap, dangerous 'self-help' nonsense and idiotic fad diets.

She gave a voice to anti-vaxxers, she ran serious stories on ridiculous fear mongering urban myths, she gave dangerous dieting and relationship advice, and she handed careers to quacks like Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz, who've done a lot of damage with their platform.

If she actually believed half the crap she peddled she's not fit to sit on her town council, let alone be POTUS. If she knows it's all nonsense and was just pitching vulnerable people complete bullshit for financial gain, then nobody should want her to be POTUS.

vwlphb · 09/01/2018 04:10

I like Oprah as a talk show host and business empire-builder as much as the next person, but no, I don’t think the ability to run a book club, give away cars and quote Maya Angelou makes someone a suitable leader for the free world.

Myheartbelongsto · 09/01/2018 04:11

She's not a lesbian and if she was why mention it!

Want2bSupermum · 09/01/2018 04:23

kmc I agree with you but Dr Oz is an excellent cardiologist here in New Jersey. DH became a patient about 6 years ago. The medical care DH received was top notch and he sees him annually. The one thing Dr Oz is absolutely correct on is weight management. He has repeatedly asked DH to strongly consider surgery to assist with weight loss. He also connected us with some of the best feeding therapists to help with our son who has autism.

I think Dr Oz is misguided by Oprah. He would do better without her. What he would be brilliant at is a show aimed for children and educating them about their body and their health. Of course that wouldn't make much money but he has been able to connect with my DC in a way I've not seen others achieve. He is extremely gifted which is why his show has lasted so long. He is under contract with Oprah and I wouldn't think she would let him get away.

saoirse31 · 09/01/2018 04:23

So she's not lesbian? So op, do you still want her as president then?

What did she actually do to be qualified for role tho? Give us some actual examples?

CrazyExIngenue · 09/01/2018 04:47

Absolutely not. I have no issues with celebrities entering the political spectrum, but lets start with mayor, senator or congressman/woman. Get some experience under your belt before you try to tackle the Presidency. Haven't we had enough of having an unqualified reality star in the world's most important position? Confused

CrazyExIngenue · 09/01/2018 04:57

Michelle Obama all the way

While she certainly has more political experience than Oprah and Trump, she still doesn't have real, voted in, made big decisions, experience. Hilary had more political experience than Obama when she first ran against him and she lost because "she didn't have enough experience". First wife isn't enough to win or demonstrate your capabilities as a politician. The US is going to be in dire straights domestically and internationally if we see out these 4 years so the next President NEEDS to know what they're doing and how to handle themselves.

Give me Bernie Sanders, John Kerry or Elizabeth Warren any day. Fuck, I'll take a dying John McCain if it has to be a Republican.

EachandEveryone · 09/01/2018 06:38

You must all no it’s going to be George Clooney. I don’t know where it will end.

ChristmasIsHere1 · 09/01/2018 06:42

Oh I'm sorry, I had it in my head that she was gay I'd always thought she was.
You’re thinking of Ellen DeGeneres, who came out on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Ieatcake · 09/01/2018 07:48

So all you not happy with Oprah would prefer Kanye? Hmm

OP posts:
insadtimes · 09/01/2018 07:55

Oprah is not a politician. Voting her in after
Trump would mean America had totally failed to learn the lesson on mistaking celebrity for competence.

WitchesHatRim · 09/01/2018 07:59

Oprah is a very good orator.

This however doesn't mean you would be a good president.

CrazyExIngenue · 09/01/2018 08:11

So all you not happy with Oprah would prefer Kanye?

No, I'd prefer a politician

ShatnersWig · 09/01/2018 08:18

In the past she has always said she would "never" run for President, saying "No, it's not my thing" and "I know what lane I belong in". Which I took to mean she knows what her strengths and weaknesses are.

Presumably she's changed her mind because she sees the shit job Trump is doing.

Sorry, as impressive as she is, I too agree that it should not be a job for someone without significant previous political experience. They should have at least been a senator or governor first, in my opinion.

Gubbins · 09/01/2018 08:20

I’m surprised by the number of people who think Michelle Obama would be a better bet based on her political experience. She has experience of being married to a politician. It’s really not the same thing.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 09/01/2018 08:21

How long is it going to be until you just text a reality TV show to select your POTUS?

Absolutely ridiculous idea.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 09/01/2018 08:23

Michelle Obama is a lawyer who has held several high profile politicised roles within the education sector. She's better qualified than Oprah.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 09/01/2018 08:24

She also has diplomatic experience from being Flotus.

ShatnersWig · 09/01/2018 08:25

Ieatcake We're still waiting for you to answer the earlier question, which is what makes her more suited than Trump and what skills and qualifications she has to make you think she would be an amazing President.....

The fact you didn't even know she wasn't a a lesbian makes me wonder how much you actually know about her and that you think one good speech and the fact she is a black woman is sufficient to run the most powerful nation on earth (unless you're Putin or Kim Jong-Un who think they do).

AintNoOtherFan · 09/01/2018 08:26

Isn't that what we need in politics now though; more ordinary people (yes I know she isn't "ordinary" in one sense) rather than a polished politician who says all the right things and makes all the right noises but actually does fuck all?

In this country Teresa May is an experienced politician as was Tony Blair yet look where this has/is getting us!
