Best Friend of 17 years vs Boyfriend of 15 Months

cherylann010 · 08/01/2018 13:05

My boyfriend of 15 months ask me "if me and your best friend (male of 17yrs) were kidnapped and you had to kill one of us which would you chose" i reply honestly and say "i really don't know"...

Now he has broke up with me.. literally 5 minutes before the question we were talking about moving in together and possibly marrying next year or two.. is this not a complete over reaction?

My ex has never showed any signs of jealously over said friend in the past. 17 years of pure platonic friendship. In fact i refer to him as my brother.

OP posts:

Oh for goodness sake. You should be so glad this idiot has broken up with you.

Crispbutty · 08/01/2018 13:07

Is he a teenager?

lalaloopyhead · 08/01/2018 13:08

Yep, lucky escape. What a very strange thing to say! Is he expecting you to run after him?

Bobbiepin · 08/01/2018 13:09

Wow what a child. Good riddance. Can you actually imagine having a baby with this man? What happens if he asks the same question about him and the baby? Would he walk out because you picked the child? What a lucky escape.

My God I've heard it all now.

I can only assume you are teenagers?

Ridiculous behaviour.

Nabootique · 08/01/2018 13:12

My ex has never showed any signs of jealously over said friend in the past.

Bet he wouldn't have asked if your best friend were female. He sounds like a dick. Onwards and upwards!

Haha is his mental age 12?

In future, if anyone asks a daft question like this, give an equally ridiculous answer, or say "I would not kill anyone ever"

Or (to stick with the 12-yr old thinking)" I would call the Rock, and he'd rescue everyone" or "I'd kill both of you, then build a space ship that goes faster than the speed of light, travel back in time and go down the right teseract so I can kill the kidnapper before he kidnaps you and neither of you would be dead"

You see, we have these kind of convo's with my 12 yr old Grin

ClaryFray · 08/01/2018 13:16

Oh dear. He sounds a right... catch OP

ThatWhiteElephant · 08/01/2018 13:17

He really asked you that?

Bonkers!

You are well rid.

JAPAB · 08/01/2018 13:19

In future, if anyone asks a daft question like this, give an equally ridiculous answer, or say "I would not kill anyone ever"

But that might see them both killed. Instead tell BF that you would flip a coin and leave it up to chance.

splatattack · 08/01/2018 13:20

What age are you both OP? There must be more to this..

Ellendegeneres · 08/01/2018 13:21

I’d have said best friend cause bf isn’t such a daft arse to ask stupid irrelevant shit like that

AtlantaGinandTonic · 08/01/2018 13:23

I think you've had a close escape, OP. Jealousy like that is never good in a relationship.

steff13 · 08/01/2018 13:24

I don't understand a scenario where two people were kidnapped and you had to kill one of them. Wouldn't it be which one would you choose to save?

RatRolyPoly · 08/01/2018 13:25

When he talks about marrying does he mean with Haribo rings in the playground at break time?

Blackteadrinker77 · 08/01/2018 13:25

Imagine how he would re act when you come up against a real issue in your relationship.

He sounds very immature and volatile imho.

JAPAB · 08/01/2018 13:26

I'd like to know how the male friend reacted to the "don't know".

AnguaResurgam · 08/01/2018 13:26

The correct answer is that't you'd find a way to shoot the kidnappers, check friend is Ok and then scoop up newish boyfriend and Live Happily Ever After.

(why on earth was he asking you such an inanely fanciful question anyhow?)

TieGrr · 08/01/2018 13:27

I often play out hypothetical situations like this in my head. But I'd never say them out loud!

Capelin · 08/01/2018 13:27

Your boyfriend sounds like a jealous idiot.

BashStreetKid · 08/01/2018 13:28

He's going to come back with conditions for continuing the relationship, mostly involving unstinting devotion to him and that you give up on best friend. When he does, tell him to get lost.

If he doesn't, he was just looking for an excuse to ditch you anyway.

BashStreetKid · 08/01/2018 13:29

Actually, of course, if you have been given the means to kill someone, the answer is that you use it on the kidnapper.

Zebra31 · 08/01/2018 13:30

He did you a favour. He sounds like a manchild.
