To ask what car you have and whether you like it?

Following on from my previous thread about haggling (which I'm utterly rubbish at - point proven today upon purchase of car), what car do you have, what year is it, and do you like it?

I had absolutely no interest in cars until about three years ago, and now I love reading about them, finding out what's reliable, what's good value, what's fun to drive, etc.

Please indulge me on a quiet Saturday eve Smile

2017 Qashqai I love it so roomy and has lovely heated leather seats and a slidey roof and it will do things like park itself into a space.
It’s the 1.5L diesel and is very nippy and gives (apparently) 74 mpg, I don’t know if it does exactly but the fuel does last a long time.

safariboot · 07/01/2018 02:13

A 2003-2005 Suzuki Ignis Sport. Not a common car. The expression "looks only a mother could love" springs to mind when it comes to the styling. I like the handling and the performance, it's not crazy power but it accelerates fast enough. I also like the fully flat boot, no sill/lip, makes getting heavy items out easy. Fuel economy is good enough.

I dislike the ride, it's too firm for my speedbump- and pothole-ridden city, the noise when cruising on the motorway, and the lousy A/C that takes 5 minutes to warm up or cool down the car.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 07/01/2018 02:27

BMW 3-Series M sport convertible. It is my dream car, very smart and classy, which I am definitely not. People are often quite surprised by my car.

Skowvegas · 07/01/2018 02:33

Loving that every Subaru owner brings them out in the bad weather.

I'm in Maine - the Subaru is pretty much our state car :-D

HollaHolla · 07/01/2018 02:34

I'm on my third Astra (with diversions to Ford, Peugeot and Audi) and although I don't love him as much as my last, he's a good wee beastie. It's a 1.9 eco diesel injection, and takes off like shit off a shovel. That may also be because I drive like a maniac. Really good fuel efficiency, and pretty damn good in the snow and ice too.
Would love another Audi TT, but I would either be banned from driving, or bankrupted by fuel/garage costs, within 6 months....

popcorntime1 · 07/01/2018 02:48

XC90 7 seater (auto).

Pros: Safety, like being high up, great boot space & comfortable.

Cons: Heavy steering, the side bits of the windscreen are too big. In London so it can be a bit annoying manoeuvring it.

We had a fiat 500 which I loved, perfect for nipping to the shops. We will get one again but I’m hoping Citreon relaunch the 2CV.

Toadinthehole · 07/01/2018 03:01

Toyota Camry. Had it for most of a decade and has given me no problems At. All.

Has zero character, but I don't care about that.

DefinitelyOdd · 07/01/2018 06:44

I had a Citroen C2 as my first car and while it was alright it kept eating its gearboxes and clutches. But apart from that it handled well and was great to park.

I now have a Ford Fusion. Its a comfortable drive and being higher up means it easier for me to get in when my back has seized. It handles well and has a good little bit of acceleration for duel carriageways etc.

My OH hates it though. Says it makes him feel like a penshioner. But I am very impressed with it.

Dunkling · 07/01/2018 08:09

Figaro. LOVE it. A pleasure to drive, reliable, unbelievably cheap to run, and people constantly stop me to ask about it or tell me how much they love it.

SadieHH · 07/01/2018 08:16

On my third Focus, this one’s an estate. I love it to bits. Lots of gadgets, loads of boot room and great to drive. It’s away being fixed after someone ran into the back of it and I miss it like crazy! Blush

user1471443504 · 07/01/2018 08:16

A 2l Astra with lots of extras, heated seats parking sensors, Bluetooth phone kit etc.
It's fine. Had lots of Vauxhalls and always get on with them.
Get easily bored with cars so will change in a year or 2. Not sure what next. Keep changing my mind. Currently thinking a Volvo or a mini but also thinking a 4x4 of some sort.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 07/01/2018 08:25

2008 Allure.

Not the best car ive had and lacking in spec, but the traction control was a godsend in the recent shitty weather we had

it'll do for the next few years until DS is out of his car seat and boosters and them im going back to something small, nippy and fun to drive

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 07/01/2018 08:35

Nissan X-trail and I adore it!

Parking cameras, panoramic sunroof and heated leather seats are amazing and there's more than enough room for 2 dogs in their crate in the back.

Someoneasdumbasthis · 07/01/2018 08:53

Crappy old land rover freelander. I like it more than I thought but it has no acceleration and the turning circle of a lorry. Am trading it in next week for a discovery sport which I've fallen in love with (and is a seven seater yay!).

GameChanger01 · 07/01/2018 08:59

Had a mini convertible and enjoyed it but due a new car
Next will be convertible Range Rober Evoque and looking forward to it!

Mupflup · 07/01/2018 09:04

A 12 year old Mini. I love my car, it just feels 'right' when I drive it. When it eventually goes to car heaven (which hopefully won't be for a while yet!) I will probably just get a newer one.

blaaake · 07/01/2018 09:09

@ChristinaParsons how much do you think a Porsche is worth?

blaaake · 07/01/2018 09:10

Always someone that has to ruin it

RebeccaJane12 · 07/01/2018 09:17

Ford Fiesta ST-loads of fun to drive, very fast and sounds so meaty

specialsubject · 07/01/2018 09:46

2003 Mondeo. Much worse than the previous model, turns like a bus, bad sightlines. Cheap to fix though, plenty of space and reasonably good on petrol.

Next time I want a slightly smaller hatchback, economical, cheap to fix. No air con, no reversing beeps, no excessive gadgets, keyhole on both sides ( and a key not the easy steal tags or buttons), no warning lights on dashboard unless something actually wrong - ice warnings are stupid, I know it is cold because I went outside to get in the car. Want a sunroof and a CD player. All cars look the same now so that's irrelevant.

From here looks like a focus is the best match.

Maddiemademe · 07/01/2018 09:47

I own 2 cars, a Mini Countryman SD and a BMW X5. I adore the BMW, it feels safe more than anything and has lots of extras such as parking camera, heated seats (heaven) and enough seats that if my children want to bring driends both home they can. Also its fantastic for picking up furniture, tip runs (moving house). It's the biggest car i have ever owned but i dont find it dofficult to drive and park. I prefer it to the Mini.

Mini is being sold next week and buyig a Fiat 500. Problem we have is a very aggressive neighbour so i have to have a smaller car to park inside the integral garage to avoid any confrontation in front of children. Never driven one before but they look very sweet. A lot cheaper to run than the BMW as well hopefully!

I've got a Nissan Micra - it suits me fine. I'm late fifties, no small kids, and I only passed my test last year. It's economical, nice and small (so I can get into smaller parking spaces on my road which is quite hellish to find a space on). And it fits me - I;m short and most cars I have to fiddle about for ages getting the seat at the right height and far enough forward so I can reach the peddles but not be on top of the steering wheel. This one was easy to adjust so I'm comfortable driving.

Most important, my dog likes it - if he didn't approve, obviously it would have to go back Grin

KhalliWali · 07/01/2018 10:40

I have an old (very old!) E Class Mercedes. I want my next car to be a Tesla Model X. Dunno how I'm gonna pay for it, mind.

Lethaldrizzle · 07/01/2018 10:40

I get that people love their cars but to have more than one for 'fun frivolous' reasons as one poster put it, is a bit much in these polluted times
