Following on from my previous thread about haggling (which I'm utterly rubbish at - point proven today upon purchase of car), what car do you have, what year is it, and do you like it?

I had absolutely no interest in cars until about three years ago, and now I love reading about them, finding out what's reliable, what's good value, what's fun to drive, etc.

Please indulge me on a quiet Saturday eve Smile

13 year old Seat Alhambra. Love it, it's our 3rd one. Masses of space and economical.

LadyVajarjarOnGin · 06/01/2018 18:56

A Mini Cooper

I absolutely love it!

It makes me smile every time I see it. I know it's a only a car but it's got character and everything just seems well thought out to make driving it a real pleasure Smile

Audi A3 sport - 10 years old, it’s a nippy thing, great acceleration and really reliable but it’s diesel and the guilt is overwhelming and it’s gwtting on a bit so we need a new car ...also - we brought it from my brother when he was in a fix and when we lived in London it was a pain - particle filter is not designed for short hops - now we live in a different city surrounded by wide open roads it’s awesome. it’s not really big enough for two kids and all the hiking / camping / biking / Christmas crap that we have to haul around with us.

But what to replace it with? I’d love something with two pop up seats as friends and family often fly to visit us and it would be great to go adventuring with them - but I would also like reasonable fuel efficient, easy to parallel park, and a little (even tiny teeny) bit cool! And not too pricey! Any suggestions?

OakIsBetterTho · 06/01/2018 18:58

I've an Audi A3 SLine Quattro (10 plate) 2.0L tdi that's been chipped and I adore it. It's a comfortable but super fun drive and feels quite swish despite being a few years old now, and the boot is deceptively enormous. It's goodish on fuel, all things considered, does about 45-50mpg on crappy country roads.
That said, we've no children yet, although have just started ttc and so I think I'm going to swap it in for either a qashqai or a Tiguan. I think my car would be fine but I've a really bad back and the idea of lifting a baby car seat in and out of my low car fills me with dread!

hendricksyousay · 06/01/2018 18:59

Kia Sportage gt s line .. I love it . It's the biggest inside in its class . ( I sat very tall dc in the back and measured them ) it has a slidy roof and is super fast too 🤗🤗

Littlecaf · 06/01/2018 18:59

We’ve got a Skoda Suberb estate and it’s fecking huge! Lots of extras for the price, so comfortable. If you want an estate it was better value for money than the Passat, Volvo & A4.

HappyGirl86 · 06/01/2018 18:59

I have a Hyundai Tucson, it's two years old. I love it. It's the best car I have. Really well made and has so many useful extras.
I can't see anything I'd swap it for apart from a newer version of the same car!

Maybeshewasntbornwithit · 06/01/2018 19:00

Volvo XC60 R design. Extremely comfortable and surprisingly good fuel consumption

ThePinkOcelot · 06/01/2018 19:00

Citroen C3 Picasso. Really like it. It’s spacious, comfortable and has really good visibility.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 06/01/2018 19:00

Ford C max. Brilliant wee car, reasonably economical and nice to drive. Just the right size. Previously we had an Octavia which was basic (it was a bottom of the range model) but bulletproof. Next car will probably a Leaf or some such, maybe a Tesla Model 3, but that’s years away.

BakerBear · 06/01/2018 19:00

I have a kia Sportage 2016 kx4 model.

I really like it but im getting frustrated with it in car parks as i have 2 children in carseats and if someone doesnt park central next to me then i cant open my doors very well to get the kids in or myself!

It really infuriates me when i park central and some idiot has parked next to me on my return and not parked properly meaning i cant get in the car as there isnt enough room.

I find it too big for going into shopping car parks etc but if i go for something smaller then i will lose too much money as ive only had it 18 months and bought it from new.

Gilead · 06/01/2018 19:01

Fiesta. Love it. Quiet, nippy and does what I need. Children all older now and not ferrying to school, so no need for the bigger cars I've always had to have - Zafira, Qashqui, etc.

Idontdowindows · 06/01/2018 19:01

A Vauxhall Astra and it's the worst piece of shit car I've ever had the misfortune to drive.

I'm going back to a Volvo.

OddBoots · 06/01/2018 19:01

I have a 14 year old Toyota Prius that I love, very easy to drive and cheep to run. The boot isn't huge but that only becomes a challenge on self catering holidays and taking the boy to and from university.

Ulysses · 06/01/2018 19:02

Mini Cooper convertible. I only got it a month ago. Have to admit it’s a bit of a chore to drive but I’ve got it with better weather in mind. Our other car’s a BMW 320 automatic and it’s a dream to drive.

thismeansnothing · 06/01/2018 19:02

Seat Ibiza '57 plate

I neither love it or hate it. I bought it off DM when I had DD as I wanted something bigger than my Ka and she wanted to downsize and she did me a good deal so it made sense. It had the space I needed but it wouldn't have been what I'd have chosen iyswim. It drives fine and in the 6 years I've had it it's been fine just 1 big garage bill.

But looking to upsize again. Want an cx5

Ilovecoleslaw · 06/01/2018 19:03

Peugeot 108 2017 on finance. Really like the car, it's a 5 door and it's not too small. But wish we'd got a bigger car as have it for the next 2 years and want to start a family in that time.
Bit of a squeeze to get pram in, let alone anything else

NKffffffffcf7d0fd3X11a2a03c7e2 · 06/01/2018 19:03

Audi a1 absolutely love it! I'm currently in that small window between car seats & Prams and the children being too big to fit in it!
DH has Volvo XC60 which is lovely to drive.

SheGotOffThePlane · 06/01/2018 19:05

Volvo s60. Fantastic for safety, space etc but fucking awful turning circle. Like trying to turn the titanic.

ParkheadParadise · 06/01/2018 19:05

BMW x6 sport.

I would never have picked this car for myself. DH bought it as a surprise. Now I love it and couldn't imagine driving anything else now.

Oldraver · 06/01/2018 19:05

We have an orange Ford Fiesta ST, just over a year old. She is lovely and glitters in the sun.

She is really nice to drive though does not like the shitty roads were we live. Full of potholes etc, we've had a few clonks going over them...Oh and she was really rubbish in the snow as she has low profile tyres

follybodger · 06/01/2018 19:05

When kids young/baby I had a zafira. Poor handling as was basically a box on wheels but it did all I wanted and more and lasted me 13 years and 130,000 miles. Replaced with touran which was under powered and awful. Kids older now, eldest now driving youngest is 12 so I have a Kia Venga which is the same as a Hyundai ix20. Diesel economic cheap rfl and brilliant car.

Evelynismyformerspyname · 06/01/2018 19:07

I have a now 2 year old Kia ceed (bought with a few hundred km on the clock so basically new but at a big discount) I love it because it is totally and utterly reliable, reasonably economical to run, cost a sensible amount of money so I don't have to be precious about it and own it outright, it's easy and intuitive to drive and park, has built in sat nav and reversing camera, is comfortable to sit in, fits 3 comfortably across the back and has good boot capacity, and has heated seats for freezing 5am commute, and most importantly for peace of mind after a previous car turned into a pile of poo at 4 years old - has a 7 year warranty :o boring hey?

It's my Stealth car...

horseknickers · 06/01/2018 19:07

I have a Fiat 500L and my DH has a Fiat 500X and we love them both. I previously had a 500 which I loved to its but I needed more room.

Oldraver · 06/01/2018 19:07

Oh I also have a yellow For Puma which is now sorn and just sits on my front garden for me to look at piss off the neighbours
