Following on from my previous thread about haggling (which I'm utterly rubbish at - point proven today upon purchase of car), what car do you have, what year is it, and do you like it?

I had absolutely no interest in cars until about three years ago, and now I love reading about them, finding out what's reliable, what's good value, what's fun to drive, etc.

Please indulge me on a quiet Saturday eve Smile

Tesla I think a series 9? Love the fact we don't have to pay for petrol. Love the fact it heats itself up and de-ices on a cold morning. Don't love the seat belts which I have to fight with every time. Don't live sitting at chargers whilst my husband chats with other people usually men about the car. I swear it gets more attention than me!

thenightsky · 06/01/2018 21:42

Smart Brabus Roadster for me only and is my hobby car.

Everyday driving is done in my Subaru Impreza, which I love. I even look forward to snow so I can zoom about in it with ease.

BetterEatCheese · 06/01/2018 21:44

I have a 12 year old skoda Octavia estate and I love it!

imonaplane · 06/01/2018 21:46

We currently have a BMW 330 and a Discovery 4. Love them both for different reasons. Agree with a PP that the BMW is useless in snow as are all rear wheel drive cars.

Dustysparrow · 06/01/2018 21:48

Nissan Micra - I've found it reliable and easy to drive, I love zipping about in it. Easy to park as it's modest in size. My DH however drove it the other day and referred to it as the 'Noddy Mobile' and said after driving his audi it was 'like driving a fucking rollerskate'. Yes it is smallish, but I can't think of a car I would rather have. (So there.) Grin

nong45 · 06/01/2018 21:48

Skoda Octavia Scout - just love it. 4wd, loads of legroom for big kids and a big boot, lots of power, great for towing, lovely smooth ride, ace stereo, solid doors that go clunk and it was good value for money.

Also an old Mazda Bongo which we can picnic and sometimes sleep in, it's the bestest most reliable van ever.

Amanduh · 06/01/2018 21:49

Oh has a brand new Golf and I have a 2yo Polo. Love them both and v impressed with VW now

MycatsaPirate · 06/01/2018 21:49

Peugeot 206 convertible. Truly, truly love it! First car I've bought because I actually want it rather than because I can afford it or it's practical.

It's not practical, we can't go long distances as a family in it because it's too small in the back so we either use DP's car or the T2 Camper.

But for nipping to town or to the beach, bloody perfect.

minsmum · 06/01/2018 21:54

Suzuki swift 17 plate, I love it when you put your foot down the engine growls. I got it when I had a collie and it was big enough, the fox hound takes up the entire back seat but I am not changing

NeeChee · 06/01/2018 21:57

I have a little Peugeot, it's 17 years old, but very reliable so far. It does what I need a car to do, gets me to work and keeps me dry, and warm/cold as appropriate.
My only wish is that it had front fog lights, and was a bit more powerful. I find myself having to sit behind slow drivers because I just know the car just won't be able to overtake quickly enough :(

tillytrotter1 · 06/01/2018 21:59

VW Jetta '58 plate. Comfortable and plenty of room, boot is cavernous, we get 60+ on a long run, diesel. It just missed out on the scandal cars, they were '09 onwards. Handles well, good acceleration for over-taking and very easy to touch 90mph if you're not paying attention! Because it's a saloon and not a hatch it took a while to get used to parking it.

delilahbucket · 06/01/2018 22:00

Alfa Romeo Gulietta and I love love love it! If it weren't for our electric car considerations, I would say our next car will be exactly the same, just newer.

CheeseEMouse · 06/01/2018 22:01

Subaru xv. I like it. Practical, big enough but not too big and i like driving it.

AlwaysSpellingMyName · 06/01/2018 22:05

We got a Vauxhall Mokka X a month ago. Absolutely love it! Boot space is a bit tight for a pram but we manage. Next upgrade will be a Hyundai ix35 though!

Gudgyx · 06/01/2018 22:07

I have a 2011 Clio

It’s okay, I suppose goes from A-B. Only annoying thing is that the back indicators go when the first frost of the year comes. Must be a loose connection somewhere that the cold effects. Heats up after driving for a bit though.

It’s a proper ‘mums’ car. Full of rubbish and random things, odd shoes, jackets, forgotten teddies and toys, empty wrappers etc. I regularly bump it off the driveway gate post as I need to reverse in at an awkward angle and I don’t care enough about the car anymore to look after it!

Had it 3 years and the last payment on it is this month. Can’t wait to be finance free for a bit! I was a silly moo a few years ago, bought my first car brand new, a c1, then traded it in about a year later for a millionth hand 206cc, landing myself in negative equity.

The Clio was my ‘sensible car’. Cost price was 6k and I ended up paying 12k. But it’s almost done! A sore few years paying it off though, a lump sum from dp’s aunt last year helped a good bit of it, god rest her soul

UrsulaPandress · 06/01/2018 22:10

A12 year old Toyota Landcruiser with 140,000 miles on the clock.

Used to need it for towing but have a waggon now. But I will have to be dragged kicking and screaming from my car. It's age means the odd things are starting to go wrong but we have a great mechanic who specialises in Toyotas.

I love my car.

IfNot · 06/01/2018 22:11

I like those old Saab 93's elQuinto. When my ancient Mazda dies (also a He!) I might get one. I would always rather have an old good car than a new cheap car iyswim.
If I could have any car I think it might be Gulietta, they are gorgeous.

Kursk · 06/01/2018 22:14

2004 Ford Expedition 5.4L. By far the best car I have ever had. It’s massive, comfortable and I feel very safe. I can easily seat 7 plus 2 dogs and have space for luggage.

The downside is 17MPG

marywasneeavirgin · 06/01/2018 22:16

Audi A3 best car I've ever driven in terms of handling and feeling of safety.

Nissan qashqui best car I've ever had in terms of extras and value for money

Audi wins hands down though.

whippetwoman · 06/01/2018 22:21

I have an EVIL Citroen Grand Picasso. It goes wrong all the bloody time. I have never had a car with so many faults but weirdly it is a dream to drive. It’s a 7 seater but so light to turn and it’s roomy and comfortable. I love it and also really hate it.

RegretingTheElf · 06/01/2018 22:22

I have a Range Rover Sport. I adore my car in every way, comfort, Size, economy and it’s beautiful

bumpsadaisy11 · 06/01/2018 22:25

We have got two cars, one of which is a Chrysler Voyager, it is absolutely massive ( we got a huge 3 seater settee in the back once, after taking the seats out)
Mind you, we need a massive car with 2 Newfoundlands, a Golden Retriever & four large kids to ferry around. It manages all this & more with space to spare. We love it StarStar

eggsandwich · 06/01/2018 22:27

Another one with a Renault Kadjar bloody love it, I’ve got it on a 2 year pch which is up in March when I get my new car have decide on an Audi Q3 this time, but would most definitely have another Kadjar they’re quite big and needed a lot of leg room in the back for my teenagers, it also has a lot of gadgets on it I did get the top of the range one though, the only thing I was a bit disappointed with was the face it had no cd all music comes from your phone which is ok but I’d like the option to use a cd if I like, my husbands car has a cd in the glove box of all places.

Funnyblastard · 06/01/2018 22:37

52 plate Ford transit, lwb hi roof. Have put extra seats in the back so now a 6 seater. Awesome for space

minionsrule · 06/01/2018 22:48

11 year old Saab 93 auto, love it. Ds has 10 yr old corsa auto. We buy old reliable cars and run them till the end
