Following on from my previous thread about haggling (which I'm utterly rubbish at - point proven today upon purchase of car), what car do you have, what year is it, and do you like it?

I had absolutely no interest in cars until about three years ago, and now I love reading about them, finding out what's reliable, what's good value, what's fun to drive, etc.

Please indulge me on a quiet Saturday eve Smile

We have a Tiguan here. I love it. it tows horses, fits 3 german shepherds in the boot plus child and all manner of other things I carry about for no real reason. It's also got me to work and on the farm every day without fail even in deep snow.

Its a fair few years old now and I am supposed to be getting a new one next year (on a pcp deal where I swap every 3years) but I'm not sure I want one Blush

helensburgh · 06/01/2018 20:57

Honda CRV love it.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/01/2018 20:57

Hyundai i10. I love it. No one believes me when I say it only costs £30 to fill up.

lampygirl · 06/01/2018 20:59

Merc E class estate. Everything is automatic it may as well drive itself. Boot is enormous for skis/7 stone dog/sports kit/work tools. Replaced a 5 series estate which I would say was more spirited to drive on the country roads but the Merc is calmer and smoother on the long motorway runs. No kids so no idea on car seats but does 4 adults to the Alps very comfortably. I’d definitely get another and 50+ mpg in a 200+bhp estate is not to be sniffed at either. Skoda Superb estate or a Range Rover Sport are the only two other contenders I’d look at at the moment.

Floellabumbags · 06/01/2018 21:02

I've got a 2016 Kia Soul. It has a sunroof, speakers with coloured lights and heated seats. I love it.

Chocness · 06/01/2018 21:04

VW Passat TDI- great for buggies, shopping plus has some oomph. Very practical for families and pretty economical to run. Quite a tank so feels safe to be in

Ford Fiesta- bit boring to drive but it’s a station car and does the job as cheap to run, tax and insure and doesn’t seem to suffer with doing low mileage every day

Porsche 911- the complete opposite to the fiesta, we bloody love it! It’s our bit of life pre-dc and is great for when one of us needs to let our hair down

Tequilamockinbird · 06/01/2018 21:07

Range Rover Evoque, 6 months old.

Absolutely love it! Lovely to drive, really nice driving position, surprisingly ok on diesel too!

sillywonka · 06/01/2018 21:07

Toyota Hilux (pick up truck). Brilliant vehicle for work and play. Had three over the last 20 years.

Pennypickle · 06/01/2018 21:07

I have an Audi A3. I love it!
DH has a Nissan Juke - all muddy rugby boots, dogs and all things yukky go in his :)

Queenofthedrivensnow · 06/01/2018 21:10

05 plate vw touran. I bought it because I gotta dog and a static caravan we needed way bigger. 1.9 litre. Mostly I love it

GreyHare · 06/01/2018 21:10

I have a new Golf GTI, I love it, it's speedy yet comfy and my dogs fit in the boot happily.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 06/01/2018 21:10

Skôda Octavia 2016. So far so good. No issues (but I wouldn't expect them in such a new car). Has thus far coped well with the Derbyshire snow/ice although I will buy winter tyres next year.

catladyinthemaking · 06/01/2018 21:11

Land Rover Defender - No Radio, no central locking, noisy and not very comfortable on the road. However, brilliant off road and really useful for towing and bad weather.

Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian - About 3 years old. Dh’s work car so I’ve never driven it. Dh says it’s great to drive though and the fuel economy is surprisingly good for it’s size.
The seats are pretty uncomfortable though.

2017 Jag XE - Not had it long but I’m enamored with it. Brilliant to drive, all the bells and whistles and soo comfy.

BillyAndTheSillies · 06/01/2018 21:12

Fiat 500x. It's great to drive but DS is starting to outgrow it, it's pretty small inside. In a car seat it's almost impossible for me to sit in the passenger seat without one of us having our knees at our ears. Also have to fit our buggy in 'just so' else we can't shut the boot.
Looking at a discovery for my next car.
DH drives an M2, much more space than my 500x, fits both pram and buggy options we've had and is so much more fun to drive. Unfortunately he won't swap with me!

hodgeheg92 · 06/01/2018 21:12

Between DH and I, we drive a 17 plate ford focus and a 67 plate ford fiesta. Both 1l 100psi engines and zetec spec. Both are decent cars, the focus feels a bit sturdier on the motorway and the fiesta is definitely nippier in the city due to less weight.

The fiesta has a decent touch screen interface and can connect to Google maps/spotify so it feels a bit posher.

We lease and swap back every 9 months/year or so without having to put a new deposit down cos DH gets good deals through his work. Means we've had 7 or 8 new fords in the past few years and (touch wood!) haven't had a problem with any of them.

MrsRonBurgundy · 06/01/2018 21:14

A 1 year old Audi Q3 and I absolutely love it. It’s the first car I’ve ever chosen myself, always had hand me downs from family and husband before, and it’s exactly what I wanted.
I don’t think it’s the most economical on Diesel but it feels so sturdy and safe. I do a lot of miles for work so it’s good for me

BestIsWest · 06/01/2018 21:17

Another Skoda Octavia. It’s brilliant.

Salene · 06/01/2018 21:17

Volvo V60 R Design

Absolutely the safest cars in the road, the safety technology is amazing and they are promising now one with be killed or seriously hurt in a Volvo from 2020 and I think it’s very possible

Also very comfy drive

pinkhousesarebest · 06/01/2018 21:18

Honda CRV. Such a trustworthy car. Hauls Skis, bikes, sofas, various animals and all of us plus the entire contents of TKMaxx when we return from our annual migration north. Amazing boot space.

bulldogmum · 06/01/2018 21:19

New model Volvo XC90 - absolutely love it! Loads of boot space for dogs/prams etc. DH very tall so lots of space for car seats and him driving comfortably. Super smooth drive and very comfy inside.
Had a Honda CR-V before which wasn’t nearly as nice but so reliable.

SpadesOfGlory · 06/01/2018 21:20

BMW 118i sport, 5 door. Love it! Rear wheel drives takes a bit of getting used to, but the car as a whole feels far more solid and less plasticky than the 2014 ford fiesta zetec i had before.

ChristinaParsons · 06/01/2018 21:25

Gulietta. Terrifies me, makes me smile, only a matter of time before it breaks down. Most beautiful car I’ve ever driven.
Have a very old, very faithful, dinted, scratched, battered forester. My children learnt to drive in her. They are in their 20s now. Amazing car. Comes out of her semi retirement to tow and take me to work in bad weather. 90% of Subaru’s ever built are still on the road

MaximaDeWit · 06/01/2018 21:27

Honda Jazz. It's my first car so although it's pretty basic it does me well. Tonnes of space as it has the magic folding seats so when DS isn't in it in his car seat we use it as a van to lug stuff around.

I am starting to get a bit fed up with it though and dreaming of something a bit newer and nicer (and more fun to drive - it's a 1.4 which is really a 1.3 and I have to overtake it 3rd gear.

Vq1970 · 06/01/2018 21:28

My previsotso cars were Golf cabriolets. My first one was amazing, I loved it but it got bashed up so traded it in for a newer model. I hated the newer one. It was great to drive but lower spec and I had nothing bit trouble with it.

Husband had a BMW 325 but due to illness could no longer drive so I was driving both cars. We couldn't get rid of the BMW because we needed the boot space for a wheelchair so I sold my Golf which I was quite happy to do.

But BMW never felt like mine and I had no 'love' for it. So I now have a Smart Passion cabrio and I love my little car. It's surprisingly nippy, roomy (no children) easy to park and first time I've had heated seats that work - I never want to get out of it. Husband can get in it but we can't take his wheelchair so he only comes for drives when he doesn't need to get out!

We still have the BMW but I'd much rather drive my little Smart car. She's called Lola Smile

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 06/01/2018 21:32

Nissan Leaf. (Plug-in fully electric vehicle). In running costs equivalent to getting more than 200mpg in a petrol or diesel car. Electricity works out as about 2.5 pence per mile, less if you charge at Sainsbury's for free. Perfect second car, used for school run, shopping, day to day driving. We have a Renault grande Scenic for longer journeys and which DH uses during the week.
