Following on from my previous thread about haggling (which I'm utterly rubbish at - point proven today upon purchase of car), what car do you have, what year is it, and do you like it?

I had absolutely no interest in cars until about three years ago, and now I love reading about them, finding out what's reliable, what's good value, what's fun to drive, etc.

Please indulge me on a quiet Saturday eve Smile

7 year old Mazda 3. My DH is a real Scrooge when it comes to cars as he thinks they're a terrible investment and the one time we bought a brand new one (Audi A3), it made him overly anxious about scraping it. So now he will spend as little as he possibly can to avoid the worry.
He drives an old Honda Civic that is heavy and low and noisy but mechanics say the engine is a dream. But the central locking doesn't work and DC #2 meant we needed a new Car so he bought me a Mazda 3 after MUCH research. It was a toss up between a quashqai, Hyundai i30 or the Mazda but when I test drove the other 2 they seemed a bit too light and plasticky. Love love love my Mazda. It's nippy, great size for 2 kids and me but not too big. The only thing I'd really love is automatic windscreen wipers but I can live without them.

BMW X5 about a year old, replaced my last X5 which I had 8 years, better fuel economy on the new one.

C0untDucku1a · 06/01/2018 19:40

Just replaced ten yr old bmw 1 series with a golf. Diesel. Boot is smaller but loving the new bits in the much newer car.

beccy11 · 06/01/2018 19:42

A megene convertible (it's fabulous and definitely my toy!)
A corsa- slightly more practical not much!

Thankfully DH has a Warrior so much more practical for our band of pets!

TheFairyCaravan · 06/01/2018 19:43

I’ve got a Nissan Juke. I love it because I can’t get in and out of low down cars and most high up ones are huge, which we just dont need. They’re not family cars, but don’t claim to be. The headroom in the back is fine for me at 5’4 but not for our kids/DH at 6 ‘2+.

The thing I love most about it is the heated, leather seats in the front. They help my aching back and pelvis so much.

Bendyandtheinkmachine · 06/01/2018 19:47

I have a 10 yr old Nissan Xtrail. It's the best car I have ever owned and I will be heartbroken when it is no longer roadworthy.

Busybusybust · 06/01/2018 19:47

Citreon Picasso. Love it. Dodgy hips, so it being quite high up is great. When the back seats are folded it has an awesome amount of boot space.

Lethaldrizzle · 06/01/2018 19:47

My bike. It's great for cutting through all the traffic and keeping me fit plus the nifty basket on the front carries all my champagne 😉

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 06/01/2018 19:49

Abarth 500, absolutely love it-small but fast & loads of fun to drive Grin

AllTheWayDown · 06/01/2018 19:49

A 67 plate seat Ibiza. It's actually a really nice car. Nice to drive and although it's only. 1 litre, it's a tsi so isn't sluggish.

Before that had a Mini Cooper which I absolutely loved and enjoyed every journey. Had to sell as an unexpected pregnancy. Still get sad when I think about it now. Have vowed to myself that as soon as it's practical, I'm getting another one :)

holycityzoo · 06/01/2018 19:50

I've got a BMW X5. I don't love it, I don't know why I've just never really bonded with it. It's practical I suppose as it's got 7 seats which I need. I hate the parking sensors far too sensitive. I'm frequently shouting at it when its beeping at me "I fucking miles away you bastard!!" Meeeeeeeeeeeeeep.
Arsehole car.

ginghambox · 06/01/2018 19:52

Skoda Octavia. 2 yrs old as said by TentUpFirstBunkUpLater high spec for less, rock solid car.
You bought a DS3 on pupose?

youngnomore · 06/01/2018 19:52

Ford grand tourneo. It’s ugly. Looks like what sponge bob square pants would drive. But as we’re a family of six and drive all day every day. It’s fantastic. All back seets fold down flat so turns into a van when needed.

Lostflipflop · 06/01/2018 19:53

Skoda Kodiaq, it's a 7 seat SUB and it's huge! Love it! Had Hyundai Tucson before that which was also fab but the suspension was rubbish. The Kodiaq feels very premium in comparison

Love my Volvo V40 RS. It’s fab to drive and has cost me next to nothing in the 2 years I’ve owned it. Used to have Land Rover Discovery before (had 2 in a row). Fab cars for family life and long distance driving but not so good in tight car parks. Repair bills are also very expensive. We’ve had an old Mercedes estate which was great until it eventually died. We’ve also got and had a Renault Scenic, which I think is great value. It’s really comfortable on a long journey and you get a lot of extras. Paid 14k for ours new with 4 years warranty!

selfishcrab · 06/01/2018 19:56

BMW x-drive 335d now a year old and its ok, quick enough but I'm not overly bothered by it.
Did have a mer A45 AMG which was amazing, I loved it and I still sulk that I sold it (spoilt brat I am)... I bought a house as an investment so had to down grade :(

Shmithecat · 06/01/2018 19:56

A freelander2 which I love apart from the boot space, too small. It has everything else I want in a car though. 4x4. Auto gearbox. Auto lights. Auto wipers. Basically point and shoot. I also have an old Saab900 convertible but I don't use it at the mo as I can't get the pushchair in the boot 😭. Can't wait for the time I no longer need the pushchair!

LoniceraJaponica · 06/01/2018 19:57

ghostyslovesheets I love my Kuga 4 x 4. It is the only car I have owned that I can drive in the snow where I live. We live on a hill and in the past when it has snowed I have had to get the train and bus to work (taking 3 times as long as driving).

When it needs replacing I will get another one.

brummiesue · 06/01/2018 19:58

Range Rover Vogue, costs a bloody fortune to run but I love it
Porsche Cayman ditto but don't love quite so much as it's so low to the ground Smile

RatRolyPoly · 06/01/2018 20:01

2l Vauxhall Insignia. I've had a string of them (company cars) and I really like them, although they need to be 2l rather than 1.6l or they're just no fun at all! Mostly I like that we can fit two ERF seats in them and two fairly tall adults, which is by no means the case for most large cars or 4x4s. Oh, and I like the really ostentatious alloys that came on this particular model, but I'm a bit of a poser like that.

londonrach · 06/01/2018 20:02

Best car ever...skoda

LoneRangerTime · 06/01/2018 20:02

15 month old Ford Focus titanium. My fifth focus in 8/9 years and I love them. We have them on a lease deal so never keep them more than two years!

Hubby has a 9 month old Ford Fiesta again on a lease deal.

thecatsabsentcojones · 06/01/2018 20:03

I've got a ten year old Landrover Discovery. Bought it initially for my business as had to do a lot of towing, but can't see myself getting anything smaller with two big dogs, two kids and a serious auction addiction.
I love it but it's at a cost, it drinks fuel and likes to see the mechanic, though it's not been quite as horrendous as other Discos I've heard about. We've got a house renovation going on and it's been amazing so I don't mind. Not really easy to pick up a couple of tons of gravel with anything smaller! Or drag tree trunks round the garden, or tow a stuck mower out of a fix I've got it into...but it'd be appalling in a city. Sometimes see them being driven up in London and wonder what the hell they're thinking about...

elQuintoConyo · 06/01/2018 20:04

1998 Saab 93. Absolute warhorse, no engine problems whatsoever, never failed an mot, huge boot. I dread having to buy a new car when he (Sven) goes.
