To think MMHQ are more trigger happy these days?

Not a TAAT as such - more about moderation in general.

Is it just me or are MN much quicker to delete threads these days?

There have been a few examples recently where the thread had taken an odd turn - but which could have been solved by deletions or posdibly even a stern but the whole thread has been pulled, despite the thread containing useful advice.

Is this a new policy? Or are there a couple of new mods who are more likely to pull threads?

AIBU to think this is happening and it's a shame if so?

To be fair no IP addresses have been shared.

Also mumof56 it doesn’t confirm that you a wasnt the one on reddit early’s hours is morning

Coconutspongexo · 07/01/2018 09:52

Ffs early hours - my keyboard is so slow on the mobile site

Most of mntrolls tbf.

I don’t hate MN, I’m just fed up with how many goady/trollish threads seem to be around currently.

Come on battleax and Edmund let's see an apology.

Apologies for what? I never accused Mum of being a troll either here or on Reddit. I’m still confused as to why someone who has obvious vitriol against Reddit would be hanging out there day and night. I would personally have better things to do, like sleep (if I didn’t have a newborn).

Emmasmum2013 · 07/01/2018 09:55

I’m not suggesting the IP addresses will be shared, just that the people responsible will be perma-banned by admins.

It was pretty early in the morning when I posted that so I’m not entirely sure how the MNHQ will know what IP address the reddit troll was posting from.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2018 09:57

Perhaps if there weren't so much cross forum bullying, then there would be fewer deletions.

It reminds me of the old usenet days (not sure how many here were on the internet during those hay days) when one usenet group would run raids on another usenet group. It was a bit like capture the flag, only rather more personal at times.

Coconutspongexo · 07/01/2018 10:00

No ones on about the troll on Reddit when linking the two threads Emma Hmm

What’s ironic about that Janey?

If you hate somewhere as much as mumof56 does it’s easy to not frequent the site especially early hours of the morning of a Sunday/ late hours of a Saturday night.

Which can I add mumof56 said it was weird/strange or whatever of me to go on reddit of a Friday night? Grin that’s strange.

Salright dipping we still have that little ray of sunshine petoz...

Reddit admins and MNHQ have access to users IP addresses, so it will all come out in the wash either way.
I don't understand - what will come out 'in the wash'?

Depending on the type of forum admins have access to additional info about posters. One of those pieces is the IP address (internet address) of the poster.

If someone is posting from address X and changes their name, then the post will still appear from address X. This can help admins tie the accounts together. Its one of the methods used on groups I admin.

However a determined troll will simply post from different addresses - this is quite easy to do. So two matching IP addresses will show the accounts are from the same place, two different IP addresses do not prove "innocence".

JenMumsnet · 07/01/2018 10:11

Hi All,

Thanks for the reports about this thread.
We know emotions are running high, but here is no need to harrang posters with unfounded accusations.
We've had a look behind the scenes and there is nothing to link any posters on this thread with the trolling that has occurred recently.

We'd appreciate it if you could use the same courtesy when posting messages on Talk as you would use when speaking to someone face to face.
The Talk guidelines still apply. www.mumsnet.com/info/netiquette

Christinayangstwistedsista · 07/01/2018 10:11

What's occurring?

C8H10N4O2 · 07/01/2018 10:13

@JenMumsnet

We've had a look behind the scenes and there is nothing to link any posters on this thread with the trolling that has occurred recently.

Just to be clear - you are talking about trolling activities within the Mumsnet site only? I think people are confusing trolling activities in two different places.

A580Hojas · 07/01/2018 10:14

Blimey can we all get over how weird it is to look at any open forum on the internet at any time of the day or night?

If you don't want to be discussed on the Internet don't post on the Internet. Isn't that the mantra?

Mumof56 · 07/01/2018 10:15

@C8H10N4O2

You really need to read the thread.

My post asking MNHQ if the two posters are the same was in regards to the post battleax posted about linked up thread nothing to do with Reddit I’m not sure why that’s confused people

Coconutspongexo · 07/01/2018 10:18

Someone was trolling on MNtrolls it’s not that hard to believe Confused it’s not really ironic either tbh

Cashewnutts · 07/01/2018 10:18

@Mumof56 MNHQ have cleared you of trolling here. Though it's still very suspicious that you just happened to be on mntrolls at the same time as it was being spammed with horrible threads. And even more suspicious that you ran right over here to post about it on this thread.
And incredibly disingenuous to suggest that those types of threads are the norm over there.

Im not suggesting that you are the mntrolls troll but you're clearly up to something.

BrucesBitOnTheSide · 07/01/2018 10:19

@Mumof56.

Likewise, you should read Reddit property instead of accusing people of starting threads about women who need raped and slags as you mentioned further up the thread.
