Just within the last couple of days we have had:

Theodore Johnson repeatedly released from prison to kill more women:

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jan/02/man-pleads-guilty-murdering-ex-girlfriend-angela-best-theodore-johnson

John Worboys, one of the UK's most prolific rapists, being released from prison:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-42571219

And now child rapists being spared jail because sex with girls who are a) under the age of consent and b) 'out of it' on the drugs they plied them with can apparently be 'consensual'.

Angry Mumsnet doesn't have an angry enough smiley for how I feel.

I’m so angry about all of this and feel so powerless to affect any change Sad. Are there any groups campaigning to change the law? I would back them wholeheartedly. On a smaller scale though what can I do as an individual?

Jassmells · 05/01/2018 08:15

BBC breakfast now talking about false accusations. Of course that can happen but today of all days? Really helpful....

CloudPerson · 05/01/2018 08:20

Jassmells it wouldn't surprise me if it was deliberate.
Plant the seed in as many minds as possible that women are the bad guys here.
We've seen it with the feckless poor, the scrounging disabled, why not women?

Jassmells · 05/01/2018 08:22

@CloudPerson well
Given the BBC's history of ignoring sexual abuse nothing surprises me!

surferjet · 05/01/2018 08:22

But women are getting sexually assaulted & raped by Uber drivers, so why aren’t all women boycotting them?
I’d say young women are their main customer. You can’t pick & choose what you want to be outraged about.
If you want to start a revolution ( & I’m all for it ) start one! but you can’t be outraged about one rapist & then get in an Uber. Not if you want to be taken seriously anyway.

ChaosNeverRains · 05/01/2018 08:28

”If you want to start a revolution ( & I’m all for it ) start one! but you can’t be outraged about one rapist & then get in an Uber. Not if you want to be taken seriously anyway.” the reason why women are raped and sexually assaulted by uber drivers has nothing to do with the fact that women are using them and everything to do with the fact that uber have failed to carry out proper background checks on their drivers. Something which has lost them their licence in London. And on that count I would agree that so many people shouldn’t be standing in support of uber based on that reasoning, however to suggest that women who get in Uber’s can’t expected to be taken seriously is pure victim blaming.

maxthemartian · 05/01/2018 08:37

surferjet stop blaming women for men being rapists.

LittleMyLikesSnuffkin · 05/01/2018 08:38

YANBU it’s shit like this that makes me want to lock up my own daughter to protect her. Fuck it, it’s shit like this that makes me want to just stay in bed and not face the world at all.

AnneElliott · 05/01/2018 08:38

It is truly depressing. I agree that if he'd raped a man, (or men) he would have got much longer sentence and probably caught earlier too.

WellThisIsShit · 05/01/2018 08:40

Signed.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 05/01/2018 08:40

I’ve never used Uber. Am I allowed an opinion, shit for brains?

badabing36 · 05/01/2018 08:44

Karlos Grin

badabing36 · 05/01/2018 08:58

BBC breakfast now talking about false accusations. Of course that can happen but today of all days? Really helpful....

Seriously? What the fuck are these journos on? I’ve been angry for a while now, but I don’t like to admit that I’m starting to feel a bit scared.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/01/2018 08:58

He was sentenced under a particularly nasty and devious law introduced during the Blair years

No surprises there, then - that lying, self-serving twat and his money-grabbing letterbox-bobbed wife introduced many laws, ostensibly for a fair justice system, but really to enable Mrs Lying Self-Serving Twat and cronies to rake in the coin. Our legal system and our country have suffered a result.

For every step-forward in the defence of women, we seem to be taking two steps back at the moment.

Sign me up for your revolution. I will bring my own weapon of choice.

badabing36 · 05/01/2018 09:00

The ‘backlash’ —against fucking nothing apart from women talking— is well and truely underway.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/01/2018 09:03

The problem with the Warboys case is that he was only actually convicted of one rape but the police believe that he was responsible for over 100 after multiple victims came forward after he was jailed.

As soon as he steps past the gates, he should be re-arreseted and charged with the others.

WellThisIsShit · 05/01/2018 09:05

Signed. It’s just vile.

I expect there will be lots of explaining to the silly women why its fair in the eyes of the law. But. The law needs to be changed.

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 05/01/2018 09:28

you can’t be outraged about one rapist & then get in an Uber

Women you can't not want to be raped and still expect to engage with normal life

Hmm
Gileswithachainsaw · 05/01/2018 09:33

If they get attacked they are told why did you walk home get a taxi.

Get a taxi or uber now again girls and women in the wrong for getting them.

How about we all stay home instead.

Oh wait most rapes are by people you know. Friends and family...

Well we can't win then can we.

How about we admit the fucking problem.

RAPIST MEN

Not women who dare to go out

BrinjalPickle · 05/01/2018 10:06

This is being discussed on Woman’s Hour on radio 4 at the moment - crimes against women not being taken seriously.

surferjet · 05/01/2018 10:08

maxthemartian
I’m not blaming women i’m blaming the men & the multimillion pound company who employ them without giving a shit about their backgrounds. We can’t stop men raping women, just like we can’t stop any othe crime, but we can make a stand by not using their services.
& Uber are still operating & women are still using them.

surferjet · 05/01/2018 10:11

badabing36
Do you think laughing on a serious thread like this is appropriate?
Hmm

Ftumch · 05/01/2018 10:24

@surgery Should girls stop going to school then to protect themselves from teachers raping them? Should women not go to the doctor to stop GPs raping them? Should they keep out of bars and clubs to stop the bouncers from raping them?
Do you see how ridiculous your statement is now?
And Worboys was a black cab driver so should we boycott black cabs too?

Ftumch · 05/01/2018 10:24

@surferjet even

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/01/2018 10:30

Then do what surfer

All stay in one big women's prison to keep safe while the men all roam free.
