Just within the last couple of days we have had:

Theodore Johnson repeatedly released from prison to kill more women:

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jan/02/man-pleads-guilty-murdering-ex-girlfriend-angela-best-theodore-johnson

John Worboys, one of the UK's most prolific rapists, being released from prison:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-42571219

And now child rapists being spared jail because sex with girls who are a) under the age of consent and b) 'out of it' on the drugs they plied them with can apparently be 'consensual'.

Angry Mumsnet doesn't have an angry enough smiley for how I feel.

OP posts:
Reflexella · 04/01/2018 23:59

If a hundred men were raped, the perpetrator would be put in Broadmoor.

Yes I’m feeling pretty dispensable right now.

Fraying · 05/01/2018 00:02

I agree OP and I also agree with a PP who said it's like a war on women.
It shows how vacuous the MeToo campaign was. Lots of high profile people jumping on a bandwagon whilst in RL the courts and the criminal justice system show exactly what this country thinks of women and girls.

Renfrewshire · 05/01/2018 00:02

Thanks for that info Eltonjohnssyrup, I wasn't aware of that about the sentencing.

FrNath · 05/01/2018 00:09

Trust no one. Yes it is appalling releasing serial rapists etc. Do you know the blunders in catching people & bringing to court. Yes the cuts have something to do with it but real poor management & organisation. Harass Women’s as well.see Ldn new victim commissioner. I heard of a black women arrested for smoking weed?

user1497863568 · 05/01/2018 00:14

I came to the depressing conclusion at a very early age that the Nazis didn't lose. I was molested at 8 years of age, my parents pressed charges and nothing was done. Turned out young man's father was a 'protected' pedo. Their aids and abettors are still very active and then they moan about demographic collapse!!

ShoesHaveSouls · 05/01/2018 00:19

Absolutely 100% agree.

I've lost count of the times I've been harassed and assaulted by men - including men I loved at the time. Never reported one damn thing. Just part of life innit (if you're a woman).

Men really really have no idea what we go through. Even the ones who love us.

Birdsgottafly · 05/01/2018 00:23

Indeterminate sentences were abolished in 2012. Because of over crowding, the system has been looking to release who they could. Since 2016 the Will has been there to release all offenders on indeterminate sentences. Some concerns are the poor MH/suicide rate of those serving Indeterminate Sentences. It wasn't some masterminded trickery on TB part.

I agree that Rape is treated as something Girls/Women just have to learn to live with.

We need a large male reaction to the idea that men can't help themselves etc. But it never happens.

Life Sentences are around 16 years and we serve half the sentencend, so someone getting life, generally serves around eight years.

I like the Chinese system of sentences done in years. So a two hundred year sentence with possible parole after eighty years.

There have been groups calling for benefit fraudsters, shoplifters etc to not get custodial sentences. But generally Domestic Abusers, sex offenders, including those who have child abuse images are spared Prison.

Birdsgottafly · 05/01/2018 00:28

I read yesterday about two serious sexual offences charges that had to be dropped because an Officer (possibly deliberately) messed up the paperwork. He is being backed by Male Work Colleagues. We are literally fighting every step of the way.

UnRavellingFast · 05/01/2018 00:28

and if we raise our voices against the hate crime wave against women, we're "feminists" - said with a sneery disgust as the word is apparently now an insult. I have a son and I am sometimes afraid that his lovely nature will be infected by the shittiness of our world of women-hatred.

Weezol · 05/01/2018 00:35

Women have always been under siege. It feelse as though it's getting worse instead of better.

I'm a Feminist. It helps to feel part of something that's trying to change things for women and girls. And to realise you're not the only one thinking what PP'S have said. I veer between fury and despair regardless.

I do genuinely despair at times, especially with the courts. What is the point of police doing all the work to get the case to court only for the judge to laugh it off.

I have attended cases and once ended up sitting in the gallery with police officers. I didn't know they were police, they weren't in uniform, but when the pathetic sentence was passed, all three of their heads dropped and one muttered "For fucks sake". I passed them in the lobby outside the courtroom where they were commiserating with so easy uniformed colleagues. They had put their police lanyards back on so I guess they must have been CID.

Weezol · 05/01/2018 00:38

Reflex If he had raped 100 men the death penalty would have been reinstated.

Italiangreyhound · 05/01/2018 00:45

Is there any kind of petition about either of these cases. No idea how it works. When I wrote to my MP about a lenient sentence before he said it was none of his business (basically).

Italiangreyhound · 05/01/2018 00:47

Weezol "... If he had raped 100 men the death penalty would have been reinstated." I certainly think he would not live to see the outside of a prison.

I really wonder with this case what the thinking is!! (Non-thinking is)

IrkThePurist · 05/01/2018 00:48

Theres a petition to reverse the Warboys decision;

www.change.org/p/uk-parliament-reverse-the-parole-board-s-decision-to-free-the-black-cab-rapist-john-worboys

Weezol · 05/01/2018 00:55

I think MrsPrims mum is definitely onto something.

UnRavellingFast · 05/01/2018 00:59

@IrkThePurist www.change.org/p/uk-parliament-reverse-the-parole-board-s-decision-to-free-the-black-cab-rapist-john-worboys

signed. Well posted.

ShoesHaveSouls · 05/01/2018 01:05

I really do think the media coverage, the police response and the sentence would be different if he had drugged and raped 100 men in the back of his cab.

Why is male rape seen as so much more of a violation than female rape? It just is. To get taken seriously, you almost have to be a virgin or a nun. As if, because women have sex anyway (generally) - it's not so bad. Just get over it. But the violation of a man (esp a straight man) - seen as so much worse.

ShoesHaveSouls · 05/01/2018 01:11

Actually, if he had raped men in the back of his cab - he would probably have been put away after the first report. Men seem to be believed - women aren't.

All those women fobbed off by the Met police, and 'no-crimed' - because he was black cab driver, and there's no way a black cab driver would do this, because he had a traceable licence number... Hmm

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/01/2018 02:18

I wanted to comment. I don't have words. Sad

Eltonjohnssyrup · 05/01/2018 02:22

I remember when they actually figured out that there was a serial rapist driving a black cab. The police put out a warning to women not to get in taxis which didn't have the light on the top. Because they were so convinced it couldn't be a real black cabbie they were saying it must be someone who had bought a decommissioned one and apparently they have the lights disabled.

mrsharrison · 05/01/2018 02:26

Yep, it never occurred to them to put a curfew on black cabs.
Cos, you know, men have to work.
Just think about that a few seconds.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 05/01/2018 02:28

I read something recently about a woman who had been selling fake Pandora charms. She got 16 months in prison plus 18 months more unless she pays back £100k. So almost 3 years.

How the fuck can they justify someone like that being in jail when people like him go free after 9 years?

It's insane. I don't even think it is a man/woman issue. The system is all about fucking money and protecting property. Not about protecting humans.

mrsharrison · 05/01/2018 02:35

Elton there is a saying "property is 9 tenths of the law".
Our antiquated legal system is based on this.
Feudal system etc. The jucicial system needs complete over haul.
Believe me, if you want to be a criminal, you can. Just study it and learn. You won't pay tax, take holidays when you choose and earn twice the average way. When you get arrested its unlikely you will go down if you've done your homework.

mathanxiety · 05/01/2018 02:50

Eltonjohnssyrup Thu 04-Jan-18 23:59:00

And the thing with Worboys, he knows he will be sent back to jail for life if he does anything else. So he will probably be thinking he might as well murder someone

YYY to that.
Or why not make it a spree.

Angry
thegreatbeyond · 05/01/2018 03:02

If you come across a drunken naked child, you give them something to cover their dignity, you take their booze away, give them some water then phone their Mum. Whether you are male or female. You don't give them drugs then rape them!

Most women would do just that, Elton. Nor have I heard of any women taxi drivers assaulting men. Still, I guess we make them do it simply because we exist, and the poor things cant be expected to control themselves.
