Just within the last couple of days we have had:

Theodore Johnson repeatedly released from prison to kill more women:

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jan/02/man-pleads-guilty-murdering-ex-girlfriend-angela-best-theodore-johnson

John Worboys, one of the UK's most prolific rapists, being released from prison:

And now child rapists being spared jail because sex with girls who are a) under the age of consent and b) 'out of it' on the drugs they plied them with can apparently be 'consensual'.

Agreed Betti, I fucking despair

ghostyslovesheets · 04/01/2018 23:02

and yes it's a fucking disgrace

AnaWinter · 04/01/2018 23:04

It is horrific. We need another revolution. All women throughout the world standing together and demanding change.

MrsPrimAndProper · 04/01/2018 23:05

At least that last case has gone to the GA's office.

My mum always said any judge giving lenient sentences for sex crimes is at it himself. Reckon she's right.

phoenix1973 · 04/01/2018 23:06

I agree. I was ranting about it to partner. He has no clue or care. LUcky him.

I've gone one step further and started thinking there's an active war on women.

I started listing all the awful cases I remember from last year but deleted them.

Jassmells · 04/01/2018 23:08

I don't know how people defend them. I have an acquaintance who defends these type of people. We frequently ask her why, she takes the view "everyone is entitled to a defence" which I find questionable (even if that is our legal system) but also why you have to tear the victim to shreds in the process is disgusting. I don't know how she sleeps at night to be honest.

Jassmells · 04/01/2018 23:09

@MrsPrimAndProper agree!

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/01/2018 23:09

I have 2 dds.

I'm bloody terrified for both of them if I'm honest.

It just keeps getting worse and worse. Doesn't seek to matter what these men do they just keep getting away with it or released to do it all again.

RubyGoat · 04/01/2018 23:10

YANBU. It's thoroughly depressing.

LineysRunes · 04/01/2018 23:12

Worboys would yes be entitled to a defence, but he wasn't tried for the vast majority of it.

Will be be now? Arrested, charged and tried?

Who was the DPP then? Was it Keir Starmer? What the fuck is going on?

AnaWinter · 04/01/2018 23:22

Adding these horrors to the list

The judge who asked the victim could she not have kept her legs together?

I knew that sick fuck Warboys would be mentioned from the title. Sign me up for that revolution Angry

AskBasil · 04/01/2018 23:33

I couldn't believe it when I heard this.

The maximum sentence for rape is life.

John Worboys is the most prolific serial rapist ever recorded in Britain. No one that we know of, has ever raped so many women and been caught and found guilty.

So what does a rapist have to actually do, to serve a life sentence? If well over 100 women aren't enough, how many women does one man have to rape, in order to get a life sentence?

When has the sentence of life ever been used for a rapist? What is the point of pretending it exists, if it is never used?

ChattyLion · 04/01/2018 23:37

That’s a really good question Basil. What the hell would it take to actually get a life sentence if this isn’t enough.
I can’t believe that he’s being let out after serving such a pathetic amount of time.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 04/01/2018 23:48

That case in Exeter is appalling. Basically what the judge is saying is that if men come across drunken naked children they have no choice but to rape them as they can't control themselves. Not only is that an insult to all women it's an insult to most men too.

If you come across a drunken naked child, you give them something to cover their dignity, you take their booze away, give them some water then phone their Mum. Whether you are male or female. You don't give them drugs then rape them!

annielouise · 04/01/2018 23:50

It's atrocious that he's getting out at all. I really can't believe it. How can the authorities assume he's reformed? He can't be. It's to save money by the government. We're a small island and don't have the space or money to build more prisons I'm guessing so sentences are kept as low as possible. Utterly ridiculous.

Renfrewshire · 04/01/2018 23:51

Apologies for this as it's the Sun, but his ex-wife and former step-daughters are interviewed/mentioned and also disagree with his release - www.thesun.co.uk/news/5272160/ex-wife-john-worboys-says-dangerous-black-cab-rapist-would-have-murdered-someone-if-he-hadnt-been-caught/

colouringinagain · 04/01/2018 23:52

It's all totally appalling. Angry x 100

Anniethinggose · 04/01/2018 23:54

This shit keeps me awake at night. I don't know how to feel as a woman sometimes to know that this hatred towards us all is condoned.

SomeOldFogey · 04/01/2018 23:56

The Exeter case was remarkable for its hypocrisy in saying that th 14 yr olds knew what they were doing, but the older men of course were total innocents and even 'simple souls'.

I am not sure what we can do about this. I do think that, even as we finally - finally - get a voice on men's harassment and the biological issues that affect women exclusively, we are in the middle of a pushback against women as a group.

Women have always had to fight when men are around, and I'm so sick of it.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 04/01/2018 23:57

So what does a rapist have to actually do, to serve a life sentence? If well over 100 women aren't enough, how many women does one man have to rape, in order to get a life sentence?

Fortunately the law has changed since Worboys was sentenced. He was sentenced under a particularly nasty and devious law introduced during the Blair years and completely characteristic of him.

He was sentenced to an 'indeterminate sentence' with a minimum term, which was a particularly manipulative bit of legislation.

Basically what it meant was that at the time of sentencing the government could look tough by saying 'we've given him an indeterminate sentence so he might be in for life'. Actually, they knew full well they probably wouldn't serve much more than the minimum term but hoped that when the outrage died down they could release them on the quiet. Baby P's mother was another sentenced in the same way.

It was a sham designed to make the Labour government look like they were tough on crime when actually they knew it would be used to give really short sentences but avoid an outcry.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 04/01/2018 23:59

And the thing with Worboys, he knows he will be sent back to jail for life if he does anything else. So he will probably be thinking he might as well murder someone.
