Openly judgmental towards tattoos?

My OH is tattooed from the neck down. They are cultural tattoos and he is a big guy, over 6ft and does body building.
I knew him years ago when he didn’t have the tattoos and when he was slim. Strangers were nice to him, and treated him like any other person. But now, he finds that men tend to square up to him on nights out, shop staff and waiting staff are abnormally abrupt and people in general is just openly quite hostile towards him. It makes me sad, and makes him anxious about going out.

AIBU to think most people aren’t this ignorant that they can’t see past the ink and see that he’s just a normal guy who wants to be able to enjoy a glass of coke in his local pub without men puffing their chests out at him whenever he walks by?
I thought we were over this in this day and age.

A lawyer with a visible tattoo? Wow.

It's 2018, my dear, not 1918. Do keep up.

SandyY2K · 03/01/2018 20:48

One man's meat is another man's poison. We all find different things attractive.

Doesn't make one person right or another person wrong.

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 20:49

Have you ever left your house Rose??? Lots of hard working people in professional roles have visible tattoos. As long as they don't include some form of hate what's the deal? Not your body

cricketqueen · 03/01/2018 20:49

I think been as boring and judgemental asrose must be exhausting.

DownstairsMixUp · 03/01/2018 20:50

Bumsnet you'd had my hospital then. Plenty of the docs I work with have tattoos! And the nurses and occupational therapists and the physios... bet you'd hate it!

FindoGask · 03/01/2018 20:51

Sandy my father feels as you do. He's very traditional and extremely conservative. He only last year discovered I have tattoos, having seen a facebook picture - and I'm in my 40s and started getting tattooed nearly two decades ago! He took it remarkably well, considering, or I think he did. In truth I suppose he recognises there's not much he can do about it now.

I'm just telling you this so you know your daughter might well go and get a tattoo anyway - but if she does and you find out about it, cut her some slack, eh.

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 20:52

Even the military have relaxed their rules on tattoos now. They still have certain criteria for obvious reasons, but even in the last 8 or so years things have changed

DownstairsMixUp · 03/01/2018 20:52

Is rose even a real person Hmm

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 20:53

Rose you can keep your suit

Openly judgmental towards tattoos?
cricketqueen · 03/01/2018 20:54

Can you imagine rose' s horror at finding out the some men wear suits and have tattoos!! Things are going well and then he rolls up his shirt sleeve to reveal ink!!!

dustarr73 · 03/01/2018 20:54

Rose hes probably fully tatted under that suit.

whiteroseredrose · 03/01/2018 20:55

Dear God must be mad. That is AWFUL!

RoseWhiteTips · 03/01/2018 20:55

Teehee!!!!!!!

DownstairsMixUp · 03/01/2018 20:57

Eww to the guy that rose posted. Is he even past his teens?!

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 20:58

I'm quite happy for people to think that's awful...more for me to swoon over 😍

If we all liked the same things we'd be pretty fucked 😂 Those of you who hate tattoos what do you do when you fall for a bloke prior to getting his kit off? 'Ah sorry, you're a wonderful bloke but er, no' 🙄

RoseWhiteTips · 03/01/2018 20:58

mustbemad17

Rose you can keep your suit

I wonder why he doesn’t have his face or neck inked?

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 20:59

Your comments aren't just about neck or face tattoos Rose - reread your 'perfect man' summation then get back to me sweetheart

Need2morehands · 03/01/2018 21:00

I don't think negatively about tattoos and I agree with others about him being squared up to because of his size hel be attracting those with small man syndrome to have a go. I do find myself looking at people's tattoos to see what they are I find them interesting when they have been collected over the years and mean something (unlike mine) Grin

NotACleverName · 03/01/2018 21:00

I see Rose's boring, probably does missionary only sex guy and raise you imgur.com/gallery/Oc7nQL4

cathyclown · 03/01/2018 21:01

At the end of the day, you can do what you like, but if you regret your tats, it is very difficult to remove them.

If very visible there will be judgments. That is the reality.

Tats are associated with the Royal Navy, and with troublemakers in prison.

They are never lovely either IMV. But that is just me.

Floellabumbags · 03/01/2018 21:01

They will fuck up your wedding/night out/special occasion attire

When I want to display my ink I wear clothes that make them visible. On a night out I would wear something backless to show my tattoos off. They enhance my attire.

whiteroseredrose · 03/01/2018 21:01

must be mad.* Yup. It'd be a no from me if that was revealed when the kit came off. I'd struggle to kiss DH if he grew a moustache.* If he got tattoos - boak! But fortunately he feels the same way so we're fine!

StandardRussian66 · 03/01/2018 21:01

Haha not DP looks a little like Mamoa too!

But if people rate tattoos so much why do so few have facial tattoos? It’s a mystery...
