Openly judgmental towards tattoos?

StandardRussian66 · 03/01/2018 14:48

My OH is tattooed from the neck down. They are cultural tattoos and he is a big guy, over 6ft and does body building.
I knew him years ago when he didn’t have the tattoos and when he was slim. Strangers were nice to him, and treated him like any other person. But now, he finds that men tend to square up to him on nights out, shop staff and waiting staff are abnormally abrupt and people in general is just openly quite hostile towards him. It makes me sad, and makes him anxious about going out.

AIBU to think most people aren’t this ignorant that they can’t see past the ink and see that he’s just a normal guy who wants to be able to enjoy a glass of coke in his local pub without men puffing their chests out at him whenever he walks by?
I thought we were over this in this day and age.

Oh I find people with lots of tattoos more attractive. When I met dh the initial thing that attracted me to him was all his tattoos!

Everyone is different and all that. Grin

RoseWhiteTips · 03/01/2018 20:33

Tattoos are so tacky. Imo

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 20:33

Opinion is not fact. Even if you end your opinion with the word fact - doesn't make it so 😆

NotACleverName · 03/01/2018 20:34

No tattoo ever makes someone more attractive. Fact.

People who post "fact" after their opinions are really quite annoying. Fact.

StandardRussian66 · 03/01/2018 20:34

My late husband had some awful tattoos. Still fancied him though. OH’s tattoos are beautiful though, and I don’t usually like coloured tattoos.

Wow!!! My DH has an amazing tattoo on his arm, I find it very attractive. I didn't realise I was doing attraction wrong. Please teach me the correct things to find attractive. He has a lip ring I take it that's not attractive? Is his brown hair Ok?

You got an original comment to make or not?

FindoGask · 03/01/2018 20:36

"No tattoo ever makes someone more attractive. Fact Opinion."

Fixed that for you! You seem to have trouble differentiating between fact and opinion; a feat that is usually managed by children of primary school age. Do you have this trouble in other areas of life?

Anniethinggose · 03/01/2018 20:36

That's right, Rose. It's just your opinion. To be so rude to someone upthread shows a very unattractive feature. Maybe you wouldn't suit a tattoo anyway.
I think tattoos make people more attractive. Just my opinion also.

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 20:36

IMO tattoos make people more interesting...they mostly have stories to tell

Oh I have. But I agree with you there!

As for being indicative of your character?

Indeed. You wouldn't get a tat that wasn't somehow part of your character.

Some tats look thuggish and that's why we rejected police candidates with them... because defence lawyers were successfully able to convince a jury...that police with certain tats were racist or violent.

I had prospective officers get so upset about it...which is why I'm not an advocate of young people permanently marking their bodies.

That's what I told my DD ... I've said a piercing is better... as it's not permanent and won't affect employment prospects in the future. Of course she will be an adult soon...but she wouldn't want to do something I wasn't in favour of.

Or she'll get one on a part of her body I can't see.

Riiiight.

Attractive men:
do not have tattoos
do not have beards, especially hipster ones
do not have piercings
do not have have buzz cuts
do not wear shorts in public in winter

Instead, they:
are fairly conservatively dressed
wear good suits
are well educated
have a smart sense of humour

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 20:44

Sandy does it not bother you that you basically just admitted you have some form of control over your daughter, that will extend into adulthood??

My parents (my dad actually) told me no piercings or tattoos whilst
I lived under his roof - despite him having three (and being military, shock horror) & my mum having tats & had piercings when i was a kid. The minute i got to uni i went & found a decent artist; by the time i went home again i had 6 tattoos & loads of piercings 😂 All of my tats have been months, sometimes years in creation. And i adore every single one

Anniethinggose · 03/01/2018 20:44

Sandy rightfully so, just like someone with a Britain First tattoo would say a lot about a person.
Many police officers have non-controversial tattoos though, and lawyers (I work in law).

mustbemad17 · 03/01/2018 20:45

Rose your idea of an 'attractive' man is bloody boring to me 😱 Pipe & slippers in the evening i'm guessing??? Screw that give me rugged & tattooed anyday

NotACleverName · 03/01/2018 20:46

RoseWhiteTips wow, how utterly... boring and pedestrian. Are all of your opinions this bad?

cricketqueen · 03/01/2018 20:46

My DH wears suits for work as I mentioned, is highly educated and has a good sense of humour and tattoos and piercings. Amazingly because I'm not you I find him attractive. Can you imagine a world where different people like different things? It must be hard for you to imagine that when you don't seem to be able to see further than the end of your own nose

StandardRussian66 · 03/01/2018 20:46

Ew rose you’ve just described my grandad. I’ll pass.

A lawyer with a visible tattoo? Wow.

Anniethinggose · 03/01/2018 20:48

Who said visible?
