Another trans bully nightmare. Targetting the yellowberry bra brand now

lilymaynard.wordpress.com/2017/12/31/bra-gate-yellowberry-products-now-for-everyone/

When will this BS end?

There’s a logic fail somewhere here.

The original fake complaint is that the brand should be more non-gendered.

In terms of a bra, what does that actually mean? You can’t get any more non-gendered than this brand which was set up specifically to be non-gendered with regard to an item of clothing that is often overtly (or even subconsciously) sexualised in a gender-specific fashion. So they aren’t demanding a more neutral product.

I think the complainant is demanding some kind of exposure of males wearing bras e.g. use of trans models? But don’t the same people require such TIMs to be considered female for all purposes? So how would they propose to highlight this? A big arrowhead on a catalogue page, pointing out the TIM model?

Or do they want to have advertising language to include bras for ‘girls and boys‘? But males wearing bras are likely to want to be referred to as girls? And as above, TRAs would demand we call that male a girl?

So, they don’t want bras to a gendered product at all. In the same way people campaign for gender neutral clothing and Lego? In which case, they are going to have a long list to get through.

Women who wear men's boxers don't niggle shops who sell men's boxers and complain at them until they stop speaking to their male customer base as men and boys because that's exclusionary to some women who wear men's boxers.

grannytomine · 01/01/2018 16:04

Aeroflotgirl, they can buy them wherever they want I was just pointing out that people aren't necessarily right that females need bras and males don't.

This bit “Before a fruit is fully ripened… it passes through several shades of yellow. Those yellow stages take time, but they are what will eventually create a beautiful berry.” made me want to vomit. Is that really the sort of rubbish we want out daughters to be reading.

UpABitLate · 01/01/2018 16:04

granny why are you looking at young girls chests and judging whether they "need" a bra or not? As you well know, many girls like to cover so their nipples are not visible and because they feel embarrassed.

Breasts in our society are highly sexualised and to pretend that there are no female specific issues around this is awful. Even men with weight around this area can go around without a top on, while girls start getting comments / stares at their chest as soon as they start developing.

Thedriftofstars · 01/01/2018 16:06

Sorry what does TIM mean?

restbiterepeat · 01/01/2018 16:06

But agree that the 'several shades of yellow to ripeness' sounds creepy.

Lovesagin · 01/01/2018 16:07

Granny why not? We need to be fine with our girls being told if they are a lesbian they have to like women with penises too (so men) which is way more offensive and vom inducing g than an explanation of the origins of a company name

grannytomine · 01/01/2018 16:07

Do you have the same views around getting the F out of FGM and insisting that charities working for things that specifically affect girls stop referring to girls in all their literature? To compare FGM to bras for girls who probably don't even need them says it all. Just to be clear I think circumcising little boys is barbaric, the fact that it is less barbaric than FGM doesn't mean it is right. I will leave you to your hatred and bigotry.

UpABitLate · 01/01/2018 16:08

Agree that but it's their brand they can do what they like.

Apart from, apparently, market bras designed with pubescent girls in mind, to pubescent girls.

grannytomine · 01/01/2018 16:10

granny why are you looking at young girls chests and judging whether they "need" a bra or not? As you well know, many girls like to cover so their nipples are not visible and because they feel embarrassed I used to be a bra and corsetry fitter, many years ago. Nothing more ridiculous than being asked to fit a bra on a child with no breasts.

PickAChew · 01/01/2018 16:10

If a boy is convinced that he is a girl and wants to wear a bra then why the hell would he/she/they object to them being advertised to girls?

PasstheStarmix · 01/01/2018 16:10

I agree with pp you can still need them because it would feel too exposed otherwise. It doesn't matter what size they're still girls with breasts and shouldn't feel they have to be like a boy and not wear one! If boys wants to be girls than they come under the 'girl' label as another poster said so what's the problem. If girls wants to be boys and need a bra I would imagine they'd go for a basic sports type that helps conceal them and not a girly bra anyway.

UpABitLate · 01/01/2018 16:11

lol can't even talk about FGM without bringing up circumcision.

The whataboutery is strong in this one!

It's the scale thing isn't it. Women and girls have to put up and shut up with all sorts of stuff up to a (moving / not well defined) point after which they are allowed to talk. All of this stuff is linked though. If you agree that breasts are not female specific, then neither are periods, vaginas, labias. It is the same people that call for charities for female specific issues not to mention girls / women, as are calling for bras for teen girls not to mention girls.

Maybe some people have difficulty processing more than one thing at a time / seeing connections that are as super-obvious as this?

UpABitLate · 01/01/2018 16:12

PickAChew they are probably thinking of transboys.

Although they are usually encouraged to bind, and binders are allowed to be marketed to them, for some reason.

UpABitLate · 01/01/2018 16:13

"Nothing more ridiculous than being asked to fit a bra on a child with no breasts."

But you are all for boys wearing bras.

Interesting.

PasstheStarmix · 01/01/2018 16:14

Bras are a need and not a want and I think when you start making need into want it's turning into a very wrong world. What's next? Will they have to make all fragrances unisex too? His and hers towels/robes- well they'll have to be changed to his or hers. Where does this all end?

PasstheStarmix · 01/01/2018 16:16

pour homme and pour femme no more

Aeroflotgirl · 01/01/2018 16:17

Granny would you tell a lady with a A cup that they are so silly they don't need a bra! Hope not! You don't find women or trans men complaining about the male products being too male, that they shod be gender neutral. They just buy what's there and get on with it!

UpABitLate · 01/01/2018 16:17

People buy stuff marketed to the opposite sex all the time. Loads of women wear fragrances meant for men, and towels I mean really who gives a toss.

This is not about being able to BUY the stuff, it is about removing references to women and girls in anything that relates to female biology, across the board. And this reduces the ability to talk about it / act on it. How can a charity target female specific issues without being able to mention females?

ijustwannadance · 01/01/2018 16:19

The worst thing about the article was the business owners grovelling apology.

She has now pissed off her majority market to appease the minority. She was seen as an easy target who backed down instantly.

It is always women only things that get attacked. Never men only spaces etc.

PasstheStarmix · 01/01/2018 16:20

Also if they were to do that it would affect all products worldwide. They're are so many companies that market to men or women. Why pick on this little starter company?

PasstheStarmix · 01/01/2018 16:21

The owner should have never backed down as it makes the complainers look right and justifies their incorrect behaviour.

PasstheStarmix · 01/01/2018 16:21

Def an easy target...

maddiemookins16mum · 01/01/2018 16:22

Boys don't need bras fgs. Ian Huntley is not a woman because errrr he does not have a womb or a vagina. Six year olds don't know what they want most of the time and can't decide between rice crispies and frosties most days let alone what sex they want to be.

The world has gone mad.

Sick to death of the encouragement for all this shite on MN, it really is another absurd world at times.

ijustwannadance · 01/01/2018 16:23

If boys who wear bras are doing it because they want to be girls, surely buying from a girls website would make them feel like they fit in more rather than less?Confused
