Candle

Would I be very unreasonable to buy myself a Jo Malone candle? A few years ago my niece gave me one for Christmas and I lit it whenever I needed to cheer myself up. However I am in my seventies, on a pension and have to budget for treats and my dh thinks that any old scented candle would do. I really loved that JM candle though.
I have promised not to use savings but it is my birthday in March and I think I can save £50 by then. WIBU?

I used to love Jo Malone candles but the last couple I have had have been shit. Hardly much smell and very little throw.

I now buy woodwork candles or White Company.

However, if you love it, buy it.

Sallystyle · 10/01/2018 20:18

Ohh, i'm glad you got it :)

buckeejit · 10/01/2018 20:19

Lovely! I had a JM pom noir candle from pil years ago & love it. Every year since they've bought me expensive perfume.

Candle is so much better. Your husband sounds ace. Enjoy!

ranoutofquinoa · 10/01/2018 20:20

Look at the Neom candles I love them, smell fantastic, last a long time and I think on par with the other expensive candles. My DH is comments on the scent and would rather I bought these than a cheap alternative.

londonista · 10/01/2018 20:20

Will do! It's now become "a big thing" so I need to ensure it's working perfectly at all times Grin

londonista · 10/01/2018 20:22

I got a Diptyque (sp?) candle when I last went on maternity leave and i loved that. Love a posh candle.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 10/01/2018 20:25

Save up and treat yourself to the candle Flowers

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 10/01/2018 20:26

But still . Get the candle !

Fellia · 10/01/2018 20:29

Ahhhh fantastic OP.

I have something in my eye

SnowFairyDust · 10/01/2018 20:35

Just come across this, what a lovely thread! I'm so pleased OP! Enjoy!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 10/01/2018 20:36

I see I am not the only TK candle maxxer.

The white company one was lovely and was cheaper at £20

Yay for scented candles Flowers

londonista · 10/01/2018 20:37

It really is isn't it.

😊

So glad you’ve got your candle! The little treats really are worth it. My favourite candle is the Fired Earth Assam & White Cedar, it’s my favourite smell ever and my friend got me the big two wick one for for my birthday. I burn it all the time, and I’ll have to get another when it runs out.

BringMeTea · 10/01/2018 20:52

Hooray for mumsnet and thegreyladys dh! And the voucher donater! Burn the candles people. Smile

I am really glad this thread came back onto “most active” list today because I wanted to thank the op for it.
My dad died just before the original post and the responses gave me such a warm feeling, especially your DH’s reaction. This would have been exactly my dad’s reaction “If it means so much to you, just buy the bloody thing” is how he would have put it.
It was the funeral today and the post somehow came into my mind this morning and I wished I had posted a reply to thank the op. So I am delighted to hear you have your lovely candle and on behalf of my dad and me I hope you enjoy every second of it.

Unfinishedkitchen · 10/01/2018 21:06

@whydidyoucallmethst Flowers. Sorry for your loss. You made my cry, in a good way. Your dad sounds like he was a lovely man.

BringMeTea · 10/01/2018 22:38

Sorry for your loss whydid. Flowers

thegreylady · 10/01/2018 22:38

@whydidyoucallmethst Thank you. I am so sorry for your loss, your dad sounds lovely and your relationship sounds so close. I am glad the thread was a little comfort. My dh is 81, a blunt Yorkshireman, who would give me the world, if he knew I wanted it. I will light my new candle and remember you and your dad.
Flowers to you

Such a lovely thread to read, OP I hope your candle brings you a lot of pleasure and a little feeling of luxury Wink

Iwanttobe8stoneagain · 10/01/2018 23:07

I’m actually crying a bit at this thread over how nice some people are

SavageBeauty73 · 10/01/2018 23:21

Your husband sounds like a keeper 😉

I was given that exact candle for Christmas. It's lovely. And I will replace it when it finishes.

Sunbeam18 · 10/01/2018 23:21

Enjoy your candle, OP. This is one of my favourite threads ever, so full of warmth.

SavageBeauty73 · 10/01/2018 23:26

Big hugs whydid. I hadn't read the full thread when I posted.

hopingforhappiness · 11/01/2018 10:10

Glad you're getting the candle. I would buy it for you myself otherwise!
And treasure that DH of yours.
(Also, try The White Company's Promegranate candles. Still not cheap but cheaper than and just as good as JM).
