To write on my neighbours car with lipstick?

I'm a wheelchair user - manual atm, because I can't afford an electric one. I live in a cul-de-sac, and several doors up there is a guy who parks his car on the pavement in front of the lamppost - which forces me to use the road, (pedestrians/parents with buggies have to walk round it too).

There are 2 off road parking spaces down our road, each providing parking for up to 10 cars. One of them is used by just one car. Given that this means trying to get up and down a raised kerb, which is impossible in a manual chair, what it usually means is having to call my ds out of the house so that he can do that for me.

A few days ago (after months of this) I had my notebook and pen in my bag, so wrote a note to leave on his windscreen. (I really hate being forced on to the road, it gives me awful anxiety):

Hi. I am your neighbour and a wheelchair user and parking on the pavements like this forces me onto the road. Please park more considerately in future. Thank you, and Happy Christmas

I got my son to stick in on his windscreen under the wiper. The following morning he was parked on the pavement right in front of my path so I couldn't even leave the house. He's now done this 3 times.

A friend of mine has suggested I write another note, on his windscreen using lipstick. (She is also a wheelchair user).

AIBU or is this (minor) vandalism justified do you think?

We have a neighbour who's son used to habitually park across the entire pavement outside our house. The police told me they will tow any car that blocks a pathway IF there isn't sufficient space for a wheelchair user or buggy to pass. Go get his stupid ass!

Touchmybum · 02/01/2018 19:10

Don't waste a good lipstick, or even a cheap one.

Contact the police. He is parked illegally if he is parking on a footpath. And yes, I know people do do that, but it's not legal and that needs to be enforced.

Fab update! Hope daft parker ferls suitably ashamed of himself.
Well done OP Grin

Tistheseason17 · 02/01/2018 19:23

feels duh!

Stopthrowingsnowballs · 02/01/2018 19:28

As a (fairly recently) ex Police call handler if I had this call I wouldn’t hesitate to be sending a PSCO/neighbourhood officer to come and assist you. I would also advise you to take some pictures when he is parked there in case vehicle is gone when officers attend, as in reality this wouldn’t be allocated as an emergency.
Give 101 a call, really hope this gets sorted soon 👍🏻

Florence22 · 02/01/2018 19:29

So sorry to hear this is happening to you. You have left a note and he has ignored it. You have a couple of options, 1) you can dial 101 and report it, 2) you can contact victim support for some good advice and support if necessary and 3) you can contact traffic wardens, they would normally leave a phone number for you to call when he's parked there.
Good luck I hope it gets sorted soon.

mia778 · 02/01/2018 19:32

Don’t get this??

Beakyplinders · 02/01/2018 19:34

Don't know what area your in OP but around here wardens and police push buggies down the street. If they can't get a buggy through, they give a ticket

Same here. Brilliant idea IMO.

Sedona123 · 02/01/2018 19:38

Mia778 me too. Does this mean that he is going to now park in a designated parking area, or that he is already parking in a designated parking area and therefore can't be reported?

Sc00byd00 · 02/01/2018 19:53

Are you sure he read your first note? Why not just speak to him?

Biblio78 · 02/01/2018 19:53

Keep a record of it, sounds like he's being very anti social and it's not on. Take pictures of his parking across your path, record everything. He sounds like a dick so writing on his car won't help you change this situation. Good luck with it

sjonlegs · 02/01/2018 19:58

I totally sympathise - my son has profound medical and complex special needs and is a wheelchair user. We contacted the council and had a white line put outside our property & over our drive - to ensure ease of access. Unfortunately there is always someone who regularly encroaches on the lines - and or parks over the drive opposite - once this delayed us in taking my son to hospital when he was seriously ill. It's hugely inconsiderate - but if they don't respond to a courteous note, then lipstick isn't the answer (even though temptation to do real damage might be strong)! Believe me inconsiderate people make me livid! Sadly, unless they are in your situation, they won't understand and are truly ignorant to your problems. The police and/or highways are the best people to contact - if the right enforcement officers are involved this neighbour will definitely get his knuckles well and truly rapped! Good luck

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/01/2018 20:05

If you damage/deface the car with lipstick you’ll have lost integrity and may be reported to police
Take a photo with your iPhone, contact police local authority re dropped kerb blocked

smilingontheinside · 02/01/2018 20:19

Take a pic make sure number plate is visible and contact 100 to complain or your local post if you know theme. This is an obstruction and I think they can be fined as putting you/pedestrians at risk. There are also local fb sites where people post pics of idiots like this. I would put mote saying pic taken complaint lodged with local police mightare him think again x

Annette69 · 02/01/2018 20:29

The police will do something - it’s illegal to park your car on a pavement that does not allow wheelchairs. Good luck

jocarter67 · 02/01/2018 20:33

I didn’t mean any offence Valerrie and I was actually on about manual wheelchairs not electric scooters/ wheelchairs. I know that you have to use your mobility part of pip for a car or an electric scooter. I know exactly how you are struggling, I am in a very similar situation, I have a manual wheelchair but can only use it when my husband is having a good day he has MS as well. As far as I am aware, the Nhs will issue manual wheelchairs when you have been assessed for one, I know there is a very long wait but as I stated I wasn’t meaning electric wheelchairs at all

jocarter67 · 02/01/2018 20:35

Valerrie Susie also said wheelchair not electric wheelchair

Valerrie · 02/01/2018 20:37

You haven't offended me Smile

Yes manual ones are offered to those who need then and those who need electric unfortunately. It's crazy really that people are being left to lie in bed because there aren't funds, when funds go on so many other things like NYE fireworks and tax breaks.

Unfortunately the disabled are out of sight, out of mind. Sorry to hear you're in a similar situation Sad

manicmij · 02/01/2018 20:57

Phone police explaining you have already asked driver to be moreconsiderate with parking but no change with latest tactic of trapping you in home. It is illegal to park on footpath but act has to be witnessed being done by official, maybe police or traffic warden. The crime this person may be guilty of is causing obstruction and perhaps even endangering life. Definitely report. Photograph if possible. Hope you get it resolved. Have same kind of problem with white vans area even has conditions on all the properties no parking allowed never mind on public footpath. Infuriating.

BearsandCardigan · 02/01/2018 21:12

I wouldn’t! You’ll be the one in trouble but do call the police - every time. They will soon get fed up of him too. Take photos and document it too. Good luck.

Debbie73 · 02/01/2018 21:13

Phone 111 the police . One of my neighbours used to ‘save ‘car spaces with their wheelie bin preventing anyone else parking on the road .
One day I was so pissed of as I had a carload of grocery shopping and no where to unload, so I removed the wheelie bin and parked my car .
Next thing I know I have notes on my windscreen calling me 4 letter names and how my car tyres will be punctured and my car vandalised . I phoned the police . A police constable came round , said I had no evidence but had a word with him . I didn’t hear anything from the selfish inconsiderate neighbour after that . Take photos as evidence and tell the council aswell , it is a offence to park on pavements.
Failing that let the arseholes tyres down !

I have to say I think your original note was too pissy. Asking him to park more considerately implies that he has parked inconsiderately. If he did not know that there was a wheelchair user on the block, or didn't realise that he was causing a problem for you, then he will feel aggrieved about being accused in that way. I would leave another note apologising for taking a tone and explaining your problem to him in practical and specific terms. Obviously you shouldn't have to do this at all, but I think asking for his help will be a quicker road to success with him than being hostile. I'm not clear whether there are little white markings on the pavement indicating that he is allowed to park where he is parking. If so, you need to call your local counsellors right away and arrange to have them removed outside your house. Explain the situation to them and I'm sure they will help you make it illegal to block your entrance. If there are no white markings on the pavement then it is illegal to park on it, and you can call the police non-emergency number and report it. A few tickets will doubtless sort him out.

SherbrookeFosterer · 02/01/2018 21:46

Your neighbour is clearly in the wrong, but don't stoop to his level.

Get the police, via 101, to support you. They will and they are brilliant in situations like this.

Firstly they will deal with him very effectively and secondly you can hold your head up high knowing you were the sensible one.

I hope this idiot doesn't knock your confidence.

Good luck and let us all know how you get on.
