To write on my neighbours car with lipstick?

I'm a wheelchair user - manual atm, because I can't afford an electric one. I live in a cul-de-sac, and several doors up there is a guy who parks his car on the pavement in front of the lamppost - which forces me to use the road, (pedestrians/parents with buggies have to walk round it too).

There are 2 off road parking spaces down our road, each providing parking for up to 10 cars. One of them is used by just one car. Given that this means trying to get up and down a raised kerb, which is impossible in a manual chair, what it usually means is having to call my ds out of the house so that he can do that for me.

A few days ago (after months of this) I had my notebook and pen in my bag, so wrote a note to leave on his windscreen. (I really hate being forced on to the road, it gives me awful anxiety):

Hi. I am your neighbour and a wheelchair user and parking on the pavements like this forces me onto the road. Please park more considerately in future. Thank you, and Happy Christmas

I got my son to stick in on his windscreen under the wiper. The following morning he was parked on the pavement right in front of my path so I couldn't even leave the house. He's now done this 3 times.

A friend of mine has suggested I write another note, on his windscreen using lipstick. (She is also a wheelchair user).

AIBU or is this (minor) vandalism justified do you think?

I’m sure it’s illegal to park on the pavement unless there’s one of those specific parking signs. My neighbour got a ticket for it.

reup · 31/12/2017 21:57

Having had a quick google that may just be in London.

lalalalyra · 31/12/2017 21:58

Don’t the nhs provide wheelchairs?

Electric wheelchairs cost a fortune. The NHS don't provide them.

TheweewitchRoz · 31/12/2017 21:59

What a fucker he is, Op. I'd call the police & report him plus take photos as evidence. I'd also apply for a disabled space outside your house. Hope you get it sorted.

Appleandcinnamon · 31/12/2017 21:59

I don’t understand why it matters about the wheelchair?

Appleandcinnamon · 31/12/2017 22:00

Surely electric or manual she can’t get past his car?

Penfold007 · 31/12/2017 22:00

ALunerExplorer take a step back and breathe. I'm going to jump to the huge assumption that as a full time wheelchair user you have a blue badge and DLA/PIP. Contact your council and request a disabled parking space outside your home. Take plenty of photos to back up your application. He's an utter twunt but conserve your energy

Maelstrop · 31/12/2017 22:01

Do you have someone who you would trust to go round and speak to him calmly about it? If he still parks there after being told face to face (extremely long shot but maybe he can’t read English?) then he has no excuse and is clearly an arsehole.

He is surely aware that you are in a chair? I’d go round and speak to him personally. You need to let him know that you couldn’t actually get out of your house due to his parking. He surely can’t be so much of an arsehole that he’s doing this deliberately??

AntiHop · 31/12/2017 22:01

I'm fuming on your behalf op. What a fucking nasty, bullying prick.

Perhaps before going to the police it might be worth going to speak to him in person. Perhaps meeting you in person would shame him into decent behaviour. Don't go alone, just in case he kicks off.

Good luck.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 31/12/2017 22:01

Call the police. Definitely. Where I am the police are really hot on this kind of thing. They post photos of offenders on their FB page (number plates blanked) with constant reminders about the penalties and who it is affecting.

mineofuselessinformation · 31/12/2017 22:02

You absolutely should contact the police. He's doing this deliberately and needs a kick up the arse.
As for how you got your wheelchair, or indeed what type it is, is completely irrelevant, so I hope it doesn't derail your thread.

IrkThePurist · 31/12/2017 22:03

Appleandcinnamon
Imagine you have a double buggy and you are trying to navigate a narrow pavement and someone blocks it with their car. So you have to use the road.
Its like that, but you're in a wheelchair.

YABU to write on the car in lipstick nope she’s not.

Not after he’s ignored the OP’s reasonable request already.

cakeymccakington · 31/12/2017 22:11

Fairly sure it's illegal isn't it?

I would see if a pcso could come out

Engorged · 31/12/2017 22:12

Report it. Even if your police allow parking on pavements (like my sister's area does) they will tow cars that block the pavements.

Alternatively, key the fucker and scrape past it if you can.

cakeymccakington · 31/12/2017 22:12

@Apple
"She could get a gimp to carry her but they still can’t get past the sodding car"

😂😂😂

Appleandcinnamon · 31/12/2017 22:13

@cakeymccakington

Well I mean am I missing the point here or what? Smile gimp electric manual skateboard or unicorn she can’t get past the car

usernameinfinito · 31/12/2017 22:16

Selfish arsehole. Call the police. Your friend is kind to think of lipstick. I wish a bunch of pigeons shit on his car.

timeisnotaline · 31/12/2017 22:17

You wouldn’t be unreasonable slashing his tires and smearing poo on his windscreen wipers personally, but I’m not sure it would achieve your goals. Take photos and call the police, and apply for a blue badge / disables parking space.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 31/12/2017 22:24

Call the none emergency police. They might tow as he’s blocking you in. Or at least call at his house, get him to move it and have a word with him. He can’t get away with blocking your access. What if, God forbid, there was a fire.

Some people are so annoying! I wouldn't bother with the notes on windscreens and I certainly wouldn't draw on the car in lipstick - this guy will antagonise you even more or even worse call the police on you (lots of houses have CCTV cameras that could catch you out).

I'd be tempted to ask a friend to call 101 so it doesn't trace back to you.

GruffaloPants · 31/12/2017 22:35

@Appleandcinnamon harder to get up and down kerbs to go round the selfish prick's car when in a manual. Obv now totally blocked in it wouldn't make a difference.
