To write on my neighbours car with lipstick?

I'm a wheelchair user - manual atm, because I can't afford an electric one. I live in a cul-de-sac, and several doors up there is a guy who parks his car on the pavement in front of the lamppost - which forces me to use the road, (pedestrians/parents with buggies have to walk round it too).

There are 2 off road parking spaces down our road, each providing parking for up to 10 cars. One of them is used by just one car. Given that this means trying to get up and down a raised kerb, which is impossible in a manual chair, what it usually means is having to call my ds out of the house so that he can do that for me.

A few days ago (after months of this) I had my notebook and pen in my bag, so wrote a note to leave on his windscreen. (I really hate being forced on to the road, it gives me awful anxiety):

Hi. I am your neighbour and a wheelchair user and parking on the pavements like this forces me onto the road. Please park more considerately in future. Thank you, and Happy Christmas

I got my son to stick in on his windscreen under the wiper. The following morning he was parked on the pavement right in front of my path so I couldn't even leave the house. He's now done this 3 times.

A friend of mine has suggested I write another note, on his windscreen using lipstick. (She is also a wheelchair user).

AIBU or is this (minor) vandalism justified do you think?

Sprinkle some bird seed on the car

StaplesCorner · 31/12/2017 22:42

Your neighbour is harassing someone with a disability. Formally report it to the police.

lalalalyra · 31/12/2017 22:42

I wouldn't recommend applying for a blue badge space, anyone with a blue badge will be able to park there and you'll be no better off. Even Resident Blue Badge spaces can be used by any resident within that zone with a blue badge.

If there's a blue badge space on the road outside the OP's house then he won't be able to park on the pavement though. So even if someone else parks on the road the OP will still be better off because the path won't be blocked.

goldengimbas · 31/12/2017 22:46

I work with disabled people and we had a client who's neighbour did exactly this on purpose and the police treated it as a hate crime. So please ring 101

Failingat40 · 31/12/2017 22:48

Yes agree with above- it's s disability hate crime and he deserves to be punished.

I'd photograph the car in situ and post it on a few social media sites to shame him.

How dare he.

You can also report hate crime via the true vision website. It will ask for your local police force, what you think the crime/incident is motivated by which would be Disability. Why you think this this motvatied by hostility or predudice - which would be he is blocking your route on purpose knowing you are in a wheelchair
It will then ask for details of you and your neighbour and how often it is happening and the police should be in touch with you very soon

NeedsAsockamnesty · 31/12/2017 22:57

I’m not in London and you’ve can get ticketed for obstructing the pavement around here

SilverySurfer · 31/12/2017 22:59

The man is obviously a complete arse and I would report him to 101.

I don't use a wheelchair but do use a mobility scooter and often come across cars either parked on the pavement/grass verge or parked across the dropped kerb needed to cross the road. It's really thoughtless because it's too steep to drive off the kerb into the road so you have to go back to the previous dropped area to either go into the road or cross the road to get around the car.

I think I'm going to take some post it notes with pre-written messages politely telling them how bloody thoughtless they are. And if its not cars, it's dustbins dumped in the middle of the pavement on collection day grrr.

I hope you get it sorted.

Valerrie · 31/12/2017 23:00

Firstly, Don’t the nhs provide wheelchairs?
Hahahaha hahaha! No. I was trapped in my house for over a year because I'd had to give up work due to disability and couldn't afford to buy an electric wheelchair. Can't use a manual, my arms don't work. Eventually I was lucky enough to get a back payment on Pip and spent two grand on one myself.

Secondly, it really isn't that easy to just get a disabled space outside your house. It depends on the width of the road, on planning, pavements, how many houses are there and many more things. I can't get one because my street is too narrow. Also, anyone with a blue badge can then use it.

Lastly, OP you need to contact the police. You're a protected person under the Equality Act and what he's doing is a hate crime. They'll put a stop to it immediately. Good luck!

IndianaMoleWoman · 31/12/2017 23:03

Valerrie perhaps H markings so no one can ever park there?

IndianaMoleWoman · 31/12/2017 23:03

Where we live you can apply to the council online for H lines or a blue badge space.

Valerrie · 31/12/2017 23:11

They can't do them for me but it might be possibly for the OP!

Appleandcinnamon · 31/12/2017 23:16

@GruffaloPants

Thanks for the clarification obviously the point in my posts was totally missed by most. Hmm

Homemenu1 · 31/12/2017 23:46

Why don't you put a nail near his tyre, might make him think twice

IJustLostTheGame · 31/12/2017 23:49

I get it IrkThePurist. Genius!

annielouise · 31/12/2017 23:57

Yes, it's a disability hate crime and it's a job for the police now. What a disgusting person. Phone the police each and every time.

CheekyRedhead · 01/01/2018 00:44

Reading with interest as my mum has a mobility scooter and manual wheelchair. We often find cars parked in the pavement and have to detour into a road. When I've been alone I've spotted drivers parking in the worst bit (usually youngsters) but don't have the balls to tell them to move

ChasedByBees · 01/01/2018 00:47

I'd absolutely get the police involved now.

Regressionconfession · 01/01/2018 00:56

Another one saying hate crime and it needs police involvement. His behaviour is absolutely unacceptable. Sorry you're having to deal with it op. Thanks

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/01/2018 01:00

Fantasy: smear chocolate yogurt over his windscreen, potato in the exhaust, very sticky stickers all over the windows and 'I am a ginormous wanker' keyed into the paint. Take pictures and send to www.youparklikeacunt.com

IRL: report.

Stolenchoccies · 01/01/2018 01:06

101

Shadow666 · 01/01/2018 01:15

Definitely don’t damage his car. I agree with calling the police out to have a word.

RestingGrinchFace · 01/01/2018 01:16

Just call for a traffic warden.

ObscuredbyFog · 01/01/2018 01:18

So sorry to hear this OP, definitely let the Police deal with your neighbour.
