But what is the point of the debate when Ian Huntley has never said that he is a woman? It would be different if he actually had and a proposal was made to move him to a female prison or something. You can't stop him from wearing makeup or calling himself Lian (and given that the source is his fellow inmates, I wonder how true the whole thing is anyway).

The transactivists would defend him. Probably blame the fact that he killed little girls on transphobia he experienced in life..iv seen them threaten to kill pregnant womens unborn children to teach them a lesson about female privilege.

Once he’s “lived as a woman” (whatever the fuck that means) for 2 years he can, under current law, apply for a Gender Recognition Certificate. Then he would by law have to be housed in a female facility.

If that legislation changes in the way that is currently being suggested, he doesn’t have to wait two years, he just has to say he’s a woman and off he pops.

The only caveat is if the prisoner is too dangerous to be housed in a female prison as they do not have the same capacity to deal with high risk, aggressive prisoners as some male facilities. But I’m sure Ian will have been terribly well behaved.

It doesn't actually mean that. It is dealt with on a case to case basis- he can ASK to be transferred but it does not mean that the prison authorities have to do it.

In Scotland, there is no need for prisoners to have a GRC under current regulations in order to be recognised as their chosen gender. Yet women's prisons in Scotland are NOT overrun with men identifying as women. Why is that?

This is a perfect example of why it is such dangerous nonsense to allow people to self certify their gender.

As I have explained, this is what already happens in Scotland- it is even more lax than the reforms would be (I presume they would still require a GRC even if it was self-certified to even entertain the idea of moving anyone). Why are Scottish female prisons not full of men identifying as women?
