30 years old and have got an unexpected bonus of £350...is it crazy to blow it on a big lego set?

It is I know...I just wanted a moment to dream

I've been so poorly over Christmas, I've hardly left my bed. However after reading this thread I'm feeling like I could manage to drag myself to the shops to spend my (very generous) amount of Christmas money on Lego. Is that ridiculous?

WeirdCatLady · 31/12/2017 09:26

Sounds like a fitting reward Buttons. What are you thinking of getting?

It's completely ridiculous. In your weakened state you should shop online and get it delivered so that you don't waste valuable energy carrying it home! If it's delivered you can splash out on more. And it's a well-known fact (in my head) that distracting yourself with a fun activity makes you get better quicker.

TooManyButtons · 31/12/2017 09:37

I really like the look of the fishing shop. The local Smyth's shop has it in stock - I've checked! And although getting it delivered is the sensible option, I want it NOOOOOWWWWW! (Plus there's a Mcdonalds opposite the toy shop - more incentive to get up and go)

And of course the fresh air will do me good, both physically and mentally. Really, buying Lego will have fantastic health benefits. I'm a nurse, so I know of what I speak Grin

Nikephorus · 31/12/2017 09:48

I have the fishing shop waiting to be assembled Grin
I can understand your sense of urgency (I have no patience either) and to be fair food would assist in your recovery. If you promise to walk slowly, eat something, and have a good long sit down when you get home then you have my blessing!!

HulaMelody · 31/12/2017 09:53

I must admit rather than Lego, I would spend hundreds creating a Sylvanian Families utopia. Tried to get my DDs into it but they’re nonplussed.

FWIW I would play nicely with them and would encourage mixed families rather than the slight Daily Mail esque ‘ethnically pure’ family groupings they have at present.

TooManyButtons · 31/12/2017 10:12

Oh god Hula don't even mention Sylvanian families. I always wanted some as a child but never got any. I've lusted after the canal boat for years. Hmmm. Wonder if it's still available?

trixymalixy · 31/12/2017 11:11

Sorry I don't have any more info on Harry Potter Lego other than there will be some. The DC know more, but are taking the secrecy thing very seriously and thwarting my attempts to get more detail! (No over 13s allowed in development area boo!)

We're halfway through building DD's my carousel. It's awesome.

TooManyButtons · 31/12/2017 11:13

The carousel looks fab, I'm very jealous!

MistyMeena · 31/12/2017 11:29

I'm about half way through fishing shack and it's fabulous. I'm rationing myself to about an hour a day because I don't want to finish it too quickly, is that weird?😀 😥

I also have a London Architecture and NASA women Set in the cupboard that I'm saving for later. Would love the new diner (and the London Bus) but am trying to live a Lego lifestyle on a Lepin budget so will have to wait

Blonde0nBlonde · 31/12/2017 11:46

I built the little women of nasa one before Christmas and it’s really nice!

The fishing shack looks great, I’m very tempted!!

a Lego lifestyle on a Lepin budget Grin Same here!
I've got Women of NASA too and haven't built it yet, maybe I will do that today.
Happy New Year Lego-lovers, may 2018 be full of bricks!

iklboo · 31/12/2017 12:03

DS got Lego Mindstorms for Christmas. He & DH haven't stopped playing with it.

Blonde0nBlonde · 31/12/2017 12:23

I spent Christmas in front of the fire playing with bricks 😁 back to reality tomorrow 😔 We need a Lego board on here so we can share our fun 😂

WeirdCatLady · 31/12/2017 12:27

This is what I got for Christmas. My fave ever set.

Dd and I used to have a spare bedroom as Sylvania and had streets of houses and shops etc full of Sylvanian families. It’s all up in the loft now, I shall set it all up again when she’s moved out 😂

It’s my birthday soon and I shall be getting Lego again then too 😍

I buy Lego technic. Last was the technic 42055 bucket wheel excavator. A massive thing. Also have the unimog, the mobile crane and the Volvo digger.

They are classic toys and have play value for generations to come.

MistyMeena · 31/12/2017 13:22

We could start an AFOL topic over on the gaming board? Would we be welcome there I wonder?😀

Well having managed to shower, get dressed and drag myself round the field with DDog, I don't feel well enough to do anything else, so no Lego shopping for me today. However I've given myself permission to drink baileys and peruse the Lego website - while ordering a Christmas/new year present for myself Grin

Blonde0nBlonde · 31/12/2017 15:10

I had to go out with OH to get his new shoes, he was confused as to why we were going to the retail park to get them until he realised the shoe shop was next to smyths (which is also opposite a mac Donald’s...is that a thing, or do we live in the same place?!)

I saw the fishing village and it looks amazing. OH is just like, you can totally just buy that, but you’ll just tell me later we have to buy a house in two weeks 🤦🏻‍♀️

How is BB8 put together? In panels or is he a solid mass?! It looks great. My friend just text to say she bought tower bridge

OP posts:
iklboo · 31/12/2017 16:32

DH got BB8 - it's very cool. Built in panels with gears & moving parts. His head moves and his sensor arm comes out.

WeirdCatLady · 31/12/2017 16:44

Bb8 is amazing. He’s built in sides like a cube, but curved obviously. He has a mechanism which moves his head and his little thumbs up blowtorch comes out too 😍
