30 years old and have got an unexpected bonus of £350...is it crazy to blow it on a big lego set?

It is I know...I just wanted a moment to dream
:( Adulting is hard.

The colour palettes are a bit bland but that doesn’t bother me. They are quite fiddly which I quite enjoy. The Capitol building contains a huge amount of tiny little single bricks. They look lovely when they are all assembled.

The more complicated models and the architecture ones are definitely a thing of beauty for me, they just look so nice, although I still like making a little police car here and there so anything goes really :D

Have made an offer on the incomplete bank which might be a happy compromise on my self imposed Lego embargo.

I am now really regretting not getting the Town Hall when it was available (couldn't justify it at the time). I'm a Parish Clerk and one day I might get to be a Town Clerk so it would have been perfect! Hey ho!

TooManyButtons · 03/01/2018 17:39

I'm really sad that i got rid of all my childhood Lego years ago. I had bloody loads of it, including a riding school that I played with for hours. I've just looked on eBay and there's a complete set for sale. I'm very tempted!

NotCornflakes · 03/01/2018 18:08

Ooh careful @TooManyButtons - I had that same riding school as a child and buying a replacement from eBay was what kick-started my current, expensive but oh-so-fun Lego obsession! Wink

Thanks for such a clear explanation of Lepin, deckoff. I'll stay away. I don't like buying copies and Lego is a good company to support.

Blonde0nBlonde · 03/01/2018 21:41

We’ve awakened the Lego monster within. My missing pieces bank set is arriving on Friday, which I am gutted about because I’m away this weekend 😔

I've just finished my VW Camper, I really enjoyed it. Love all the little details on it. DD wants to go to Meadowhall tomorrow. There's a Lego store there. This could be dangerous!

MistyMeena · 04/01/2018 22:42

A new giant Hogwarts? Wow, better start saving 😱

ceeveebee · 04/01/2018 22:53

Have you been on bricklink? I’ve bought my DC a few bits from there, mainly discontinued mini figures from old Ninjago setsbit have also bought the odd set, there are some bargains if you aren’t bothered about having them boxed

You’d all love the photo booth in the Lego store in Leicester Square. You get your photo taken then all the bricks to make it into your Lego photo. It’s £100 but it’s you. In Lego!

ceeveebee · 04/01/2018 22:57

Oh also it has the inventory and spare parts for all of the sets as well if you need to get the missing pieces for your bank!

felidae · 05/01/2018 00:10

So I've been lurking on this thread and as a result have bought the brick bank and am loving it! Just trying to avoid finishing it too quickly like a pp said...

BigBaboonBum · 05/01/2018 00:15

There are far worse things you could spend the money on. I say go play with some Lego!

MistyMeena · 05/01/2018 09:30

Every time I go in the Lego store in Leicester Square I'm amazed at the length of the queue for the mosaic machine. £100! There is (or was) a company online that did the same thing from a photo I think.

Blonde0nBlonde · 05/01/2018 10:40

I had visions of a 3Dimensional giant lego man BlondeonBlonde for our living room...but i'm guessing its a sort of flatter approximation of your face? I was in London last summer for a concert and I was allowed to go to the lego shop if i agreed to go to the British Museum first and behave myself. We just had hand luggage, so I couldn't buy anything big but OH surprised me with some little minifigs that he must have skulked off to purchase when I was playing :D

I would love to see some photos of your brick bank as it progresses! i'm more excited for my lego coming than I am for my trip away this weekend.

Off to while away my hours on bricklink now :D

Also...Disney Castle sized hogwarts...how rude would it be to change my mind about no wedding list and just add lego store vouchers :D I can't wait to see it if it happens. I was at Uni when harry potter lego was around so I have a tiny little set of it, but missed out on a lot of the cool stuff by virtue of being broke.

Ooh! have a Lego themed wedding Grin

Blonde0nBlonde · 05/01/2018 13:54

I could have creator sets as centre pieces and they guests can build them (but not take them home Grin)!!

I actually looked up lego themed engagement rings...but wasn't brave enough to suggest that at the time because i'm quite sure OH already hovers around thinking i'm a bit mad.
