Lush - I'm too scared to go in!

Help! I'm usually a confident person but for some reason I'm a bit afraid of going into lush!! My DNiece is 8 and wants a few bits from there for Christmas, but what? What's good? Where do I look? What do I ask for?

Everybody seems to knowledgeable with the little packets & wrappers, and it looks like some things get weighed??

AIBU to ask you for help guiding me through what appears to be the slightly weird world of Lush?? Grin

If you go in and say what you've just said they'll jump at the chance to help you.

ArgyMargy · 19/12/2017 11:12

My advice is go in, head for the oldest/most sympathetic looking member of staff and tell them you have no idea what to do. If they are any good at their job they will be delighted to guide you through it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/12/2017 11:13

They're absolutely lovely. Well in they are in myour one (Liverpool) I'd be lying if I didn't say anything bit in your face though with a lot of "Can i help you". However some people prefer that, don't they.

TeenTimesTwo · 19/12/2017 11:14

Pick up a basket.
Go to Bath bombs.
Try not to faint at the prices.
Pick them up and choose the ones that smell nice.
Go to till.
They will put them in individual labelled bags.
Pay whilst trying not to faint at the total price.
They also do gift vouchers.

My own daughter loves it there too, the only thing I've ever bought from there is a cleanser called Angels on Bare skin which was amazing I have to say but I'm not sure if a cleanser is what your niece was looking for, 8 is quite young. How about bath bombs, my daughter loved those when she was younger. Any Lush shops I've ever been in though, I have to say the staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful, don't be afraid!

Rainybohoho · 19/12/2017 11:14

Be warned that they are VERY friendly in there and like to get you to smell everything (I always end up with a glittery nose).

Yes they weigh the soaps, but for an 8 year old I would go for a bath bomb and a gift voucher so she could go choose some stuff herself.

peachgreen · 19/12/2017 11:14

Walk in. Stand there for 5 seconds. Tell the assistant who immediately pounces on you (in a very friendly way) that you're looking to spend up to £20 (or whatever) on your 8 year old niece. They'll do the rest of the work for you!

speakout · 19/12/2017 11:15

I agree with the others. The staff in Lush are always lovely.
I threw myself at the mercy of an assistant and he was more than happy to help and guide me through the products.

I ended up spending £60 though.

thecatsthecats · 19/12/2017 11:20

Last time I braved the fumes, I was pounced on by not less than six assistants in turn, even though I didn't hang around to browse but walked immediately to the stall I wanted. You'll be fine - I have no idea how they afford that many staff.

IntoTheFloodAgain · 19/12/2017 11:20

I think they can sense new customers so don’t worry they will do all of the work for you!
The first time I ever went in, one of the assistants just came up to me and started chatting. Before I knew it, he was washing my hand with their honey shower gel and I just stood there like a deer in headlights.

I ended up buying the big size of it though, so they know what they’re doing Grin

Situp · 19/12/2017 11:21

If you are unsure, look at their website first. They describe things really well so you can have a better ideas of what you want x

BluthsFrozenBananas · 19/12/2017 11:22

Lush honestly have the friendliest staff, and they seem to genuinely love the products. They’re nothing like the overbearing types you sometimes get on department store make up counters.

For your niece I don’t recommend a Snowfairy gift set. It’s their special Christmas only scent, it’s pink and glittery and smells like marshmallows.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 19/12/2017 11:23

*I do recommend not don’t.

EduCated · 19/12/2017 11:24

Their gift sets are very nicely packaged and relatively reasonable - start from about a tenner upwards.

For an 8yo I'd go for bath bombs. Bubble bars are nice (basically solid bubble bath) but don't have the same fizzy excitement.

mrsm43s · 19/12/2017 11:25

I find the staff in Lush really in your face, and don't leave you alone. Trust me they'll be more than happy to help you.

thelastredwinegum · 19/12/2017 11:27

The bubble bars are waaaaaaaaay better than the bath bombs!

LucheroTena · 19/12/2017 11:28

8 year olds want bath bombs, they do all sorts of festive glittery ones. You can either buy them in a pre wrapped festive box or choose your own, you can opt to buy a scarf and they will wrap them in it for you. The staff are very helpful.

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 19/12/2017 11:28

Get her snow fairy body wash it's amazing they also have loads of gorgeous wrapped boxes with bath bombs etc you can just pick up. I just say I'm okay thanks except last time when I wanted to try a shampoo so asked for advice. (Rehab it's amazing I actually just posted about it on the last thread I was on about itchy scalps 😂)

Last time we were in a girl asked if my daughter could help her make soap. She came back and said they are each allowed to gift someone something once a month and she'd gifted my daughter something. I went home and checked online what to use it for and it was sixty quid!

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 11:31

Ok brill, it's the pouncing that makes me want to run away! Last time I just tiptoed inside, got a bit scared and ran! So you're all saying embrace the pouncing, right? Yes she is a little bit young but I think she wants something a bit 'grown up' from 'usually cool except in lush auntie Sparkling' a bath bomb or something like that as a starter might be the way to go!! I'm going to the Trafford Centre store on Thursday!

I actually clicked on this thread thinking the op was going to be too scared to go in because of over zealous staff!

I love Lush, but they are a bit much in there. They do go away as soon as you say you’re fine on your own though, so it’s not a big problem.

Aaaaanyway, yes @op, just go in and ask someone. They will be happy to help!

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 19/12/2017 11:31

Don't get bath bombs!!
Waste of money.

Bubble bars are the way forward.

The staff are lovely in Lush...I'm a long time customer now anyway....but they are always willing to help.

Get them to show you knot wrappings with their vintage scarves.
Makes a lovely gift and.the scarves can be reused by the recipient.

My DSDs now have quite a collection!

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 11:32

Snow fairy stuff sounds lovely and something I'd really like myself!! Oh I'm excited now, I'll just be brave, right?!

LOVEisunconditional · 19/12/2017 11:32

Personally I love lush and it's really great shop! The smell however is quite overwhelming but definitely worth it.
I think it's worth it and you should hold your nose and go for it; once you get used to it it's all fine.
Also, if you go in there go on a weekday where it's less busy but i ca say the staff are quite hard to shake off so just say you've got somewhere to go or you need a look around.

Thanks!

Beakyplinders · 19/12/2017 11:32

Don't worry, the staff will pounce on you as soon as your foot crosses the threshold so you can just tell them you dont know much about their products and need help choosing one.

You'll also have about a million products slapped on your hands, arms, wherever but this is normal.
