Lush - I'm too scared to go in!

Help! I'm usually a confident person but for some reason I'm a bit afraid of going into lush!! My DNiece is 8 and wants a few bits from there for Christmas, but what? What's good? Where do I look? What do I ask for?

Everybody seems to knowledgeable with the little packets & wrappers, and it looks like some things get weighed??

AIBU to ask you for help guiding me through what appears to be the slightly weird world of Lush?? Grin

Walk in
Wait 5 seconds....
Over eager sales person will pounce
Mention you are wanting to spend £x on a gift for your 8yr old niece.
They will promptly shove 10009000000 items under your nose.
Go for the one that seems nicest.
Pay for item.
Walk out with the knowledge you will never get the glitter and the cloying perfume sent from your nostrils.

Or

Walk to till
Ask for gift voucher
Do not make eye contact with the staff praying waiting for fellow shoppers.

LesDennishair · 19/12/2017 12:27

You won't have any trouble, OP. The staff always pounce on people as they walk through the door, irritating for me but you might find it useful. Grin

FlaviaAlbia · 19/12/2017 12:29

This is a good time to start because in about 6 years time your DD will have you queueing up for the Boxing day sale. It's like the Next sale but more frantic, with more elbowing and better bargains Grin

ArcheryAnnie · 19/12/2017 12:31

Beware of the bath bombs that either have foliage or flowers in them or have glitter in them, because the bath is a bugger to clean afterwards, and I'm betting the 8-year-old isn't going to be the one to do it..

FlaviaAlbia · 19/12/2017 12:33

Good point ArcheryAnnie and also avoid ones with the metallic sparkly stars. Sitting on them when you're expecting a relaxing bath is not fun Grin

Scoobygang7 · 19/12/2017 12:34

Am I the only who though loves the bath bombs I cannot bring myself to use a full one in a bath?

I slam it on the floor or somewhere and throw in about a quarter and get four baths out of it.

Our Lush is always jam packed at this time of year (it's a small store) so you are slightly less likely to get pounced on, but more likely to gett trapped inside, overwhelmed by the smell and have a claustrophobia attack (or is that just me ?Grin)

But staff are always very helpful if you need them. I often by the bubble bars and the lip balms - their knot wraps are a nice way to wrap up the bits and bobs.

Scoobygang7 · 19/12/2017 12:39

@MiaowTheCat I've not forgiven them for discontinuing 22 cherry tree lane. I loved that soap.

dustarr73 · 19/12/2017 12:40

I love Lush, always very helpful without being in your face,

Go in explain and they will do the rest.

itshappening · 19/12/2017 12:43

I have worked in shops before and I hated pouncing on people. Most of the time if I didn't I was pounced on in turn by the manager. It was drummed into us that no one enters the store without being spoken to by a staff member.

Choccyhobnob · 19/12/2017 12:52

I've never been into Lush as the smell puts me off but now I feel like I have to! I get about 3 baths a year though (thanks toddler). Always worry that all the overscented stuff will upset sensitive skin even though it all looks lots of fun!

pisacake · 19/12/2017 12:53

AIBU to feel sorry for The Body Shop.

Just so passé

KurriKurri · 19/12/2017 12:56

I think there are some nice things in Body shop - but they are extortionately expensive. Very small items cost ££££, Lush is also expensive but you are more likely to get something big and chunky for your money. Also the staff in our Body shop are remarkably disinterested in their customers or their products.

AmeliaFlashtart · 19/12/2017 12:59

I hate going in, the sales assistants are trained to adopt a very pushy American style customer service experience which is incredibly annoying, they simply will not leave you alone. 'Just browsing thankyou' will not get rid of them either. All ofthem present in teh shop will approach you and give them the tiniest 'in' and they'll be rubbing cream on the back of your hand in no time - touch and bonding = trust and you'll buy!!! Sorry LUSH, it's so annoying you have lost me and my disposable income as a customer - tone it down!

AmeliaFlashtart · 19/12/2017 13:01

Just as you wouldn't let a dog lick your face don't let LUSH staff smear creams on you. They've touched 100s of people and you don't know where they've been.

Howsthings1234 · 19/12/2017 13:02

I'm newly converted to lush - the products are so lovely but yes staff can be rather intense.

Question for all you lush regulars - what happens when all the Christmas stuff goes. Will there be a new range of items in January?

I want to get a naked shower moisturiser - on the website they all say leaving soon. Does that mean new scents will come in in jan?

Donnerkebabbler · 19/12/2017 13:19

The people who work there are lovely and friendly, very knowledgable and will match a product to your needs. Best customer service around in my view. Soaps are weighed out. It’s not cheap. Bath bomb type product probably only thing in there.m suitable for an 8yo though. The rest of their products are mid range and not at all gimmicky despite the names. Get yourself a pot of ultrabland cleanser whilst you’re in there, it’s my must have Wink

Triskaidekaphilia · 19/12/2017 13:30

I do find Lush's staff scary despite having worked there myself! But I agree that if you can embrace the pouncing it could work as they do know the products well.

I had to go in on a Saturday recently and though it was horrifically busy I felt they were the only shop that didn't seem understaffed for the Christmas rush- I knew what I wanted so was able to get in and out in about 5 minutes!

Chienrouge · 19/12/2017 13:32

I tried to go in yesterday but it was so busy they were operating a ‘one in, one out’ policy. Fuck that, I’m not queueing to get in any shop!

ClaryFray · 19/12/2017 13:35

Go in! Their beautiful souls in there. So helpful, and the products are cruelty free.

They'll assist you in anything you need.

EmilyChambers79 · 19/12/2017 13:36

I went in to the one in our nearest city and it was rammed. I stood there a bit confused, sales assistant came over and asked if I needed any help. Said I needed three gift sets for three girls, she asked me their ages and if they were girly girls or not and then asked if there was anything else I needed.

I had a list of bath bombs I needed, she took me to the bath bomb section, left me there and came back in less than 5 mins with 3 gift sets for the budget I had.

They definitely are very helpful. I also got DS a fidget spinner bubble bar for Christmas! You hold it under running water and it spins, quite cool!

demirose87 · 19/12/2017 13:40

I'm addicted to the Snowfairy shower gel and bubble bar and the Sleepy body lotion smells amazing.

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 13:44

I've gone from afraid to excited!!

Don’t get anything very dark coloured
Dd went black followed by an odd shade of green after using something Christmassy in the bath from there one year
